Dodoro is acting is a buffoon like a usual, all this posturing will come back to haunt this time around, Saad will be OOC soon then the real fun begins.
Jack Martin all over again.

Are Carlton actually in a position to structure up a contract like Martin's to get Saad though?
Don't believe they need to structure anything. My understanding is that clubs only need to match his terms in regards to total length and total dollars, not the specific loading for each year. Happy to be corrected.
If he's stated that he only wants Carlton and won't meet with other clubs or have medicals, who would be mental enough to take a chance on a guy for 5 years at $650k, in the hopes that he will turn up and play to the best of his abilities?
People claimed the Gold Coast and Melbourne would both take Martin if he went to the PSD.
The PSD is not Carlton's preferred method of acquiring Saad (wasn't for Martin either). It's their counter to Dodoro's ridiculous demands.
We will offer a fair trade.

Clubs need to match years and loading.

Interesting. Do you know of a link to this anywhere?
I could only find this, which is a little vague on the loading side of things, but could be read in support of my original comment.

Laid out in 6.3 (b). "Football payments" means contract structure. Youve got the watered down version. Edit: actually youre looking at the Free Agency clauses

And draft him with pick 7

I doubt it would come to that and would not like Carlton to go down this path, but if negotiations break down and Saad refuses to meet with other clubs or consent to his medical records being shared like has been reported, I would wager good money he would make it to Carlton's Pick 27 (or whatever number it ended up being).

I am still yet to hear any good reason from anyone at all why Carlton would be the club to pay the biggest price ever paid for anyone that's remotely comparable to Saad in anyway. Pick 7 is absolutely massive overs for an OoC, 26 year old, HBFer - no matter which way you slice it. IMO, there is zero good reason for us to even consider trading it to Essendon for Saad. If we used 7 to split into other picks, I could understand that. If we entertain the idea of 7 for Saad + something we need to rethink our list management and recruiting team.

Again, yet to hear a compelling reason why it needs to be included in a direct trade for him. Unless Essendon can get their hands on a another good pick, I don't see how or why 7 would be on the table in any fashion. I've asked the question in here and provided evidence of previous comparable trades done in the past and nobody has been able to explain why it makes sense to include such a pick in any trade for the uncontracted Saad...

Agree totally, just because Dodoro is suddenly inspired, demands pick7 and more or some other nonsense to a quell the EFC ferals , does not make it fair value In this trade.
Our 2nd rounder and a sweetener is a fair value for a 27year old , when next he pulls on a Bagger jumper.

Bombers fans have latched onto the idea of 7 because we’ve made it known we intend to trade it.

I’d be very surprised if it was anything more than a late first rounder or equivalent value. Like you say anything more would be unprecedented and in all honestly stupid especially considering we supposedly have other targets.

27 and a player with an upgrade in the 3rd round in the bombers favour could do it. They’re after players.

Could easily just have him put a 1 year contract for 1 mil on his head for the PSD and then extend as soon as he lands at Carlton... No club would risk paying 1 mil for a player who could walk out the door at season end..

If Essendon get band 2 comp for Daniher they could swap it and Saad for pick 7. Essendon may have throw in a late pick too, but it would be close enough to fair.
Not sure how the bands work these days, but I thought band 2 was middles of 1st round (after all teams that didn't make finals have had their pick - technically pick 11 prior to any academy of F/S bids). Or is band 2 end of 1st round (pick 19 prior to bids)?
I'm not sure how many academy or F/S players are expected to go top 20, but if it #7 for Saad and #11, and #11 ended up blowing out to 15-18, I'd probably do that.
If it was #19 and that ended up blowing out to 25+, I'd rather not involve #7.
So basically, I'd be reluctant to hand over #7 to Essendon, but if we got a late 1st back, I'd consider it. If we got a 2nd rounder back, #7 would be off the table.

You talk about pick 19 blowing out to 25, and 11 blowing out to 15-18.
You realise pick 7 will end up being about pick 9-10
