1. Can Saad elect his salary in the ND?
2. If he isn’t worth pick 7 why would you draft him with this pick?

2. Why give you pick 7 and boost your currency, when we could draft him for pick 7 and you get nothing?

If the price is pick 7 I can't imagine why we don't just head to the draft. We're competing teams. Why strengthen your team if we don't have to?

No. But he's the player we want, and he wants us, and if the price is apparently that (according to this thread), then better off using it in the draft than via trade.
No. If we get 16 and 17 from Brisbane, one of them will go to GWS for Caldwell. We don't need to do Saad's trade to get that done. FA period starts before trade period so we'll have a fair idea of what's happening.
Saad is an established player in his prime. Caldwell only played 11 games. Big difference.
You either split 7 for two picks and give us a mid first or you trade pick 7 and we give you a second back or something to that effect.

So with that reasoning, if your genius list manager is demanding pick 7 and Walsh for Saad, then strap yourself in to part with pick 6 and Merrett for Caldwell.

Did his post not state that there’s a clear body of evidence Saad is an elite HBF while Caldwell is an injury prone player that’s played 11 games? (Who I do not want)
He stated mid to late 1st round picks for either I believe.
Saad is worth more than Caldwell. That's without a question.
He is worth a bit more but isn’t that far off.
If saad is worth pick 14 cadwell is worth pick 19

Go back and look at this thread. A significant portion of Essendon supporters have been stomping their feet and claiming that because Carlton have offered Saad 5 x $600k (the same as Essendon) they must rate him highly and need to pay up - even overs (lol), at the trade table. Despite there being no correlation at all between salary and trade value, that's what has been vehemently argued ad nauseum.
Because it has been reported that Caldwell has been offered 5 x $500k, it is not unreasonable that the same logic needs to be applied to Essendon, but of course with some it doesn't. Therefore, what is received for Saad will have be passed on for Caldwell, because they are roughly being offered the same contract and must be worth the same in trade capital, because that's the rule right? It's dumb.
What we are doing is highlighting how stupid it is to say "Ohh well team x is offering player y $xxx so they absolutely need to pay 2 x first rounders". It's a stupid and unfounded thing that people conflate as if they have some correlation, when they really do not.

I get the point you are trying to make and agree with the highlighting of the hypocrisy of some, but those are really not facts.
Saad is reportedly going to be on 5 x $600k (as high as $650k, as low as $550k) and Caldwell 5 x $500k (The Age went with 3 years and a trigger, but most outlets are saying 5 years). Important to distinguish facts from 'educated' media reporting.
Considering we want Josh Dunkley and Carlton want Oliver, I think this one should be done fairly quickly so that we have the currency to make an offer.

Not necessarily. It could also be a restraint of trade to prohibit a player from working for a specific employer of his choosing (a specific club) or in a specific State.
Restraint of Trade laws in Australia are very favoured towards the employee. Sporting codes have long relied on voluntary participation by their employees (athletes) and flexibility by clubs (to basically let the player go to their club of choice) in order to escape some potentially damaging legal claims.
That said the Courts do recognise that there can be legitimate restraints placed on a person to engage in their profession (and specifically in relation to sporting codes like drafts etc).
That said, if a club played silly buggers and redrafted or drafted a player in a draft that did not want to be there, it could get messy for the AFL. Thats why most (all) players who go into the draft or PSD wind up at their club of choice.
