In what world would Jeremy Cameron's compo been anything but band 1?
Might not even be that, has any club lost 2 players as Free Agents before? Do they stack or does each grant a pick?

In any case I don't see how Geelong can have 800k free to trigger Band 1, you have to remember its based on cash and Geelong isn't going to pay him the big dollars a North would have that would have certainly triggered Band 1.

Each grants a pick. Port lost Danyle Pearce and Troy Chaplin first year and got 2x band 2 or 3

It's based on whatever the AFL wants it to be based on. There is zero chance he doesn't get band 1. None. Nada. Zippo.

Unfortunately there is a precedent and a 5*700k contract would be comfortably Band 2 which is likely why GWS have said they will match.

If it is picks 9 & 10 they take it and run all the way home, if it is 20+21 they force a trade for Cameron at least which is what it appears they are doing.

Not everyone is like people on BF, the vast majority are more casual. Still, everyone knows who Jeremy Cameron is. Everyone knows he's one of the best players in the league. In what world would the AFL say that Jeremy Cameron isn't band 1?

It has nothing to do with how good the player is, it's about the contract terms

Is this over yet? What did we pay for Saad, about ~pick 15-20 value? Yep sounds about right. Not sure why we had 500 pages on it... ;)
Exactly, but its been fun, Essendon fans : Pick 7 or walk, Carlton Fans : take whatever we give you or he walks to draft...
99% of deals get done lets face it, players rarely "walk" to the draft, should be a a pick between 7 and 27...

Really pick 7 is pick 11 (B.Crouch, JoeD, JUH, B.Campbell)

Geelongs Pick 11 is pick 17 (B.Crouch, JoeD, Z.Williams, JUH, B.Campbell, L.Jones)

Pick 13 is pick 18 (B.Crouch, JoeD, Z.Williams, B.Campbell, L.Jones)

I just don't see any cat fans swapping 11 for 16+17 or 17+18 (Pending L.Jones bid)

Mate daniher and b crouch won’t get compo in the top 10 what are you on about

B.Crouch is a certainty it's the reason the crows won't match. I'd say back scratching will help in both situations not that I think it's required for B.Crouch.

I'd be very surprised if 700k+ 4-5 year deals don't get band 1 compo

Even if Daniher doesn't the cats aren't doing pick 10 for 16+17

I mean it's only 600+ points out of range

You do realise we have more than one draft pick.....

It’s no fait accompli that Crouch gets pick 2, Daniher nets you a top 7 pick or that Campbell is bid on before 7.

Lol that Carlton supporter "we just use 7 in the draft to get Saad"

Goddard and Destoop - "how is 7 overs when you’ll be using 7 in the draft?"

What an idiot lols

I’d rather take Saad at 7 than see it in Essendon’s hands through a straight swap, especially if you’re going to start negotiatin such bad faith.

If he does get to the draft a mid teens pick will do (fair value). No one takes him before the second round on big bucks when there’s some talented kids still available.

Truth is it’ll fall somewhere in between Walsh and the PSD and both clubs need this one done fairly early.

And people like to claim Dodoro is hard to deal with...

A mid-teens pick that Carlton don't have, you mean?

Dodoro and Silvagni are good mates and are both trolls, they're gonna have a lot of fun here with the media. Deal is already done.

Which would be really handy if SoS didn't get replaced this year.

My 2 cents:

I get Carlton fans wanting to get the most out of pick 7, the idea of being able to turn it into Saad and a late/first early second sounds very nice. If I was a Blues fan I would be thrilled on being able to achieve that.

From the Essendon side only getting a late first for someone who is worth closer to mid first would feel awful. Getting pick 7 in a straight swap would be a huge win. We need all the capital we can get if we're going to land Dunkley and Caldwell. Would feel really bad if Saad was just a late round first which we then had to use on Caldwell. I would never want to do a Caldwell for Saad trade straight up.

So if that's the parameters the only thing left is to wait and see where the deal lands. How do the two teams interact? What third party opportunities with BL/Cats are there? Do teams value picks less in a year where the scouting opportunities were much less?

I would usually say there is fun in speculating and guessing but after reading a few pages on this board/essendons board I don't think that will be the case this year...
