I've said from the outset he's worth a pick in the teens, I'd have said 14 / 15 is about correct weight. Carlton don't have such a pick though, so 7 is likely to be involved in some way, either directly to EFC, or indirectly to another club who does have a pick in the teens.

So yeah, you're clearly a troll, but you're also a moron.

27 is closer to 15 than 7 is based on your beloved points system.

Or is that only used when it’s in Essendon’s favour?

Will this be as effective as his continual asking for Ollie Wines since 2014?

Who knows? Ollie Wines is the type of player Essendon needs so I am glad the question was at least asked. But my point was that we have a huge cap space now to pursue players, which we didn't have when pursuing Wines in the past.

Has any Essendon supporter in this thread genuinely said they think we'll get 7 in a straight swap?

Coz if not, this is a lot of strawman trolling.
Essendon starting off with making sup ridiculous trade requests from Carlton.

Looks to be like it might end up being a straight swap for Carltons current first round pick?

Here's 1. There's definitely more. Have a look.

No straw man here.

Well, you mean aside from no list manager having ever done it, and that it would burn bridges with every other club. Sure.

Never been done? You want to check again before standing by that comment?

Feel free to post up some occasions where a club has refused to trade a pick, then gone to the draft and used that exact same pick on the exact same player.

I don't know every trade ever made off the top of my head, but nothing recent springs to mind.

Who says we're refusing to trade a pick?

Looks like a shit bit of sensationalist clickbait, no one even wants to put their name on (written by "WWOS staff").

This line is especially weird: "The next request was for Carlton's first draft pick, currently No.8, and Tom De Koning. The Blues quickly dismissed both options, believing the draft pick alone to be a more than fair price."

o_O

Carlton said what now?

Exactly.

In fact most of the Essendon comments regarding pick 7 would be considered straw man if you actually thought about it.

Wait, so your one example is someone essentially asking a question due to a news article?
Poor form

There's probably been more Carlton supporters suggesting you'd take him at pick 7 in the draft than Essendon supporters thinking we'll get 7 in a straight swap..

I find it useful to ignore the more extreme arguments, especially from those who are clearly close-minded about it. Mostly just a waste of time.

There's certainly been plenty of "Saad for a 2nd round or PSD" as well, but that's about as likely as "7 and a player". Anyone suggesting either of those extremes is doing it for clicks and giggles, whether that's from Trade Radio, a major newspaper, or on BigFooty, and I'd suggest arguing against it when it's futile is just as likely to be clicks and giggles. Fills in some air time.

Reasonable commenters on both sides who aren't trolling or posturing as though they're personally involved in negotiations are typically on board with 7 being involved with Carlton getting Saad + something.

Theories vary between Carlton trading 7 to [Geelong/Brisbane/WB] for a couple of picks and give Essendon one of them, and Carlton trade 7 to Essendon and Essendon give [something] back.

Personally, I enjoy the theory of a trade modelled on the 3-way deal for Jake Carlisle, which resulted in the Saints getting Carlisle and pick 14, while Essendon got pick 5 and Craig Bird. Sydney loaded up on points for Callum Mills. The third party candidate for that would be the Western Bulldogs, but they might be mad that we're after Dunkley so who knows if they play ball.

Either way Carlton will most likely stay in the first round and Essendon will get something equivalent to a mid-late first for him.

lol wtf is this? I was referencing the article?

it was not my suggestion.

absolutely lazy skills zeggie.

Saad is not a significantly better player than when Essendon paid a future second round pick for him.

Only difference is that now he's been playing for a Victorian team instead of Gold Coast.
Spot on.
His numbers only improved slightly since his move to Tulla.
So they got him for 35 as a 23 yr old and now want 7 for a 27 yr in 2021, because.......?

Agree with you, perhaps Adam is now little slower certainly older. Btw the future 2nd rounder become p35 in 2018.
I’d be disappointed if Austin & Agrestia relinquished p7 for Saad In a straight deal,
something else would need to be involved.

I'm stunned, actually shocked to be sitting here that it's actually being questioning whether or not Essendon posters have ever said Pick 7 would be a straight swap for Saad. Thread is actually littered with it but apparently it's just overlooked. Funny that...

No but the under 18s season is the biggest jump. It raises and lowers plenty of players. Without it this years draft is speculative more than any in modern times. Pick 7 in this draft is minimum for Saad.

Saad for 7.

Done.

If 7 gets put up, that's fair. Move on.

Pick 7 or fu** off. Let the traitor walk to the PSD and re-draft him.

If Carlton wants to pony up and get their man across without any fuss, then 7 for Saad could get done in the first two minutes of trade week. How could Saad not be worth this pick, yet be worth a 5 year deal? lol.

See you in a few weeks once you've coughed up pick 7.

Pick 7 should be fine because he is in the prime of his career, he is a wanted (yes, ooc) player and is one of our most durable and important players that another club has approached and offered ridiculously high money for. Also, don't forget we have Dodoro. That helps get trades done in our favour

Why would they give pick 7 to Essendon instead of using it in the draft? It’s simple - Essendon already has a tonne of salary cap space, and will have a lot more in the next couple of years with Hooker and Hurley’s big contracts ending. Even Zaharakis is on a decent amount. Then a bit later Heppell too.
If Carlton refused to compensate Essendon and pushed Saad into the draft, it’s pretty obvious what would happen. Dodoro would contact a number of Carlton’s best players over the next few years and give them an offer they couldn’t refuse. If Carlton are prepared to use pick 7 in the draft, they will give that to Essendon rather than spite them. Otherwise it could backfire on them spectacularly. I mean imagine if Carlton were in the middle of their window and then lost one of their most important players to a huge offer from a pissed off Dodo. You really think he wouldn’t do that?
A trade will get done and you’re probably not going to like it.
puerile speculation...doubt the dodobird will still be at your club in the near future...

Compelling evidence. Very compelling.
