Waste thousands in membership dollars to take some pressure off the kid you draft? Ok

It's a 25% discount so 2250 points vs 1888 which actually only saves them pick 42

Maybe we have to fork out a little more, trade a future 2nd for say pick 30 this year 27+30+41=1744 (Added to their pick 31 gives 2246 negates pick 1 bid) vs 20+29 = 1565 basically cancels out your little bluff about calling his name out and when you don't the dogs will have two picks in the 40s left standing.
Waste membership dollars?.. how?..

Crows membership numbers wouldnt drop because we bid on JUH before another kid with pick 1.. and to suggest so is utterly ridiculous..

95% of Footy fans dont even bother following the draft and the draftees.. the most the majority of footy fans would discuss of the draft would be..

Mate 1:
“ya hear we’ve got pick 1 in the draft this year”..

Mate 2: “oh yeah, cool, hope we get a good lad”

The diehards are the one’s here on bigfooty.. everyone else barely gives a shit..

Trying to hold back the tide all the way to pick 27 is a completely different ball game..

Agreed. Someone would be bound to have a shot by pick 27. The better way would be to load his contract (can do in the ND), split the pick 7 with Geelong and use a pick in the teens to draft him in the ND if Essendon reject it as a trade. Would ordinarily be a fair price for a player like Saad and a lesser chance someone would take him before then.

From a club that has spent years down the bottom, Pick 1s sell hope, Pick 2s don't.

True, but with pick 7:
  • You get ten good years out of it, not three to four (Definitely? Phew, that's a relief that we get a guarantee).
  • You get a chance at a more structurally important player, like a tall, a forward or even an onballer
  • You get a chance at a star. Not just Saad-level, but a star.

Gotta love that certainty that comes with draft picks.

To win flags, you need to land a superstar or three. Saad is not a superstar, even if success is not guaranteed at any pick, you'd be a fool to throw away a half-decent chance at one. Pick 7 is a chance at a star.

If he chooses the ND route is he still allowed to put a price on his head?.. or is that only if he goes into the PSD?.. can anyone answer this for us?..

And even if he does put a price on his head.. its got to be high enough to deter other suitors all the way out to pick 27.. and in making it high enough it simply results in the blues having to overpay for him..

But.. there’s no way he makes it to your pick at 27.. no way in hell.. especially in this compromised draft year.. someone else will grab him.

Its nothing like the Martin PSD deal last year where you had pick 3 and only had to convince one team in the Dees not to take him..

Trying to hold back the tide all the way to pick 27 is a completely different ball game..

He can put a price on his head. Luke Ball did it.

I can’t see any club taking him within the top 30, who is going to match the Martin-esque front-loaded contract offer for a guy who doesn’t want to be there? Anyone in a window won’t have that space on a whim, anyone outside a window won’t waste a valuable pick on him.

Worst case scenario we trade 27 up to 15-20 or 7 down. Which is what we’ll try and do anyway to accommodate the trade... if Dodo doesn’t play funny buggers.

I’d be far more nervous going into the PSD. North or even Hawthorn would have nothing to lose picking him up there.

So Bigfooty polls are gospel now?

You well might be right.
In fact I'd be more confident in that than I would of a draft pick 'definitely' being a better player than Saad.
Go ask people down the street then mate, I don't really care. Every single person will say I'm taking pick 7 to the draft.

No one with a brain in their head thinks Saad is worth pick 7, NO ONE. He can go to north for all I care, I am taking pick 7 to the draft or trading it for an actual A grade mid not some B grade HBF.

I’ve seen it quoted various times that if the crows dont call out JUH at pick 1 that it saves WB points pretty much equaling a pick around pick 30.. which is a massive savings really..

And as for the crows not calling out his name at 1..

I have absolutely no doubt that, unless there is a prior agreement (nod and wink) that Hamish will call his name out at pick 1.

There’s actually more advantage in not picking our own player over JUH at pick 1... the pressure to achieve on a young lad of the Adelaide fish bowl if they are taken at pick 1 would be immense.
lol this is such a ridiculous argument if you think bidding on JUH at pick 1 will remove any pressure on who goes pick 2. The pressure on him being pick 2 and the saviour of Adelaide will be enormous regardless if he wasn’t picked one spot earlier. It’s a ridiculous argument. Jordan Gallucci didn’t EDP’s be any criticism by having 14 players picked before him. If pick 2 fails then nobody is going to give him a free pass for failing because your club made a bid on someone else at 1 😂😂

Then don't chase "some B grade HBF".

Thats unders for Jack Martin imo.
Of course it is, it's nearly always unders when an uncontracted player (like Saad) is involved.

But it was still nothing to sneeze at, and wouldn't have been if not for the concessions GC already received. It wasn't as if they were offered dregs at the arse end of the draft.

They're late picks that were of little use to Gold Coast given their other picks.
That they could've paired together to trade for something higher, or handed over for an experienced player.

Anyway, I'm not here to rehash history. Just to point out that this notion that Carlton screwed GC over last year is complete bullshit and that there is no comparison with what is being peddled from Tullamarine right now.
