You know that's in upgrade of like pick 60 yeah? And your wink and a nod is worthless I'd have it at 1
$1.01 odds you don't call out jug with pick 1 draft night, then again that would be typical Adelaide to give away their only ever #1 pick.
I’ve seen it quoted various times that if the crows dont call out JUH at pick 1 that it saves WB points pretty much equaling a pick around pick 30.. which is a massive savings really..

And as for the crows not calling out his name at 1..

I have absolutely no doubt that, unless there is a prior agreement (nod and wink) that Hamish will call his name out at pick 1.

There’s actually more advantage in not picking our own player over JUH at pick 1... the pressure to achieve on a young lad of the Adelaide fish bowl if they are taken at pick 1 would be immense.

Always tricky when a player is out of contract but not a free agent, bombers don't have a lot of leverage but Carlton can't really guarantee he gets there without agreeing to a trade. I always find it a bit disappointing when someone gets to their club of choice through the PSD so hope that if a trade does fall through someone picks him up.

For mine you just have to be true to the player assessment, if JUH is the standout we have to bid for him. As for any secret deals the crows track record isn't great, we'd get busted in an instant haha

So if we had the #1 pick as many times as Carlton it would be ok to call him out?

If he falls through to the PSD the crows will definately enquire and would have the coin..

And if we dont get a sniff.. North will almost certainly will..

Hard to see him making it to Carlton’s pick unless he puts a massive price on his head.. but in doing that he and Carlton could throw a spanner in the works for any other plans Carlton have..

We’d go through the national draft. Can’t see a club spending a top 30 pick on a guy who doesn’t want to be there, on what will be more than the 650k he’s already been offered.

Highly unlike it gets to that stage but every time Essendon make a stupid request it’ll just edge that little bit closer.

crows could offer them 20 and 29 for it and even give a wink and a nod that they wont bid on JUH at pick 1 and thus give them a massive points win equivelant to handing them pick 30..
Do you remember the Veale deal? The AFL would rain down on Adelaide like a ton of bricks if they even thought of trying that.

Given Adelaide's issues with its prior draft restrictions and the like, the last thing they need is to be caught playing fast and loose with draft/trade rules again.

We got busted for tippet because we put everything down in writing and tried to pay him outside the cap and then made a promise we’d trade him for .....

This situation is completely different and happens pretty much every year where clubs know other clubs have NGA’s/FS picks and use that as leverage to make a deal on the premise they wont bid early on their player..

The AFL doessnt see it as a very big issue and, if they did, it would just about be impossible for them to prove it anyways..

How do they prove that a club wants or doesnt a player and where they do and dont rate the draftees...

They cant. It would never hold up if they tried..

See my response above..

And further.. how do they prove it?..

AFL : adelaide, why didnt you pick JUH at pick 1?..

adelaide : because we feared if the bulldogs didnt match we’d get stuck with him and we wanted Thilthorpe more.. we were also worried if we did get him he’d get homesick and leave after two years. Thats happened to us too much lately and is too big a risk.

Also... Thilthorpe is a great SA lad, crows supporter and we actually see more upside in his game than JUH...

AFL : oh, ok... um..

See.. how do they prove that the crows are Bullshitting them?.. the dogs arent exactly gonna dob on them as the dogs are benefitting from it too!..

Its impossible for the AFL to police.

Could you get him through the national draft? I thought it had to be PSD for some reason

For a number of reasons:
  1. Even if Adelaide and the Dogs do come to an agreement, the other 16 clubs will scream about it
  2. All it would take would be for one person involved to crack under pressure of an investigation and the club is screwed
  3. The AFL does not require absolute, concrete, inarguable proof to act. They have to sign off on each trade and ensure it is fair.
This isn't dissimilar to the Tanking scandal - nothing could literally be proven, but Connolly and Bailey were heavily punished and the MFC fined half a mil.

I don't think any club in any situation where they are able to obtain pick #1 would choose to give away on draft night but we are talking about Adelaide here, you guys gave away a 1st round pick to get close and then traded it away when you got there.

Cochrane wasn't there at the time of the OMeara trade. Cochrane made a clear policy decision that they were going to be unreaosnable with Martin to show other people that GCS wasn't just a feeding club for other teams.
Yes he was there when the O'Meara trade was done. He was making all sorts of statements at the time and ended up getting a worse deal than they could have got.

St Kilda made out like bandits because of him

I'd argue that Thilthorpe, Hollands and McDonald are all worthy of the pick 1 with JUH - it would be a hard ask for the AFL to nail a team for selecting one of those kids instead of calling out JUH at pick 1

Waste thousands in membership dollars to take some pressure off the kid you draft? Ok

It's a 25% discount so 2250 points vs 1888 which actually only saves them pick 42

Maybe we have to fork out a little more, trade a future 2nd for say pick 30 this year 27+30+41=1744 (Added to their pick 31 gives 2246 negates pick 1 bid) vs 20+29 = 1565 basically cancels out your little bluff about calling his name out and when you don't the dogs will have two picks in the 40s left standing.

Tim Watson there, showing that he never really forgot where he came from :)

There are very, very few 27yos worth Pick 7 in the league and none of them play off half-back.

Nah for sure.

Saad's a good player, but Pick 7 could be anything.

I mean, you could draft a good player at Pick 7...like Saad. Hopefully.

If he chooses the ND route is he still allowed to put a price on his head?.. or is that only if he goes into the PSD?.. can anyone answer this for us?..

And even if he does put a price on his head.. its got to be high enough to deter other suitors all the way out to pick 27.. and in making it high enough it simply results in the blues having to overpay for him..

But.. there’s no way he makes it to your pick at 27.. no way in hell.. especially in this compromised draft year.. someone else will grab him.

Its nothing like the Martin PSD deal last year where you had pick 3 and only had to convince one team in the Dees not to take him..

Trying to hold back the tide all the way to pick 27 is a completely different ball game..

Also here you go moron

"We said all along if we could not get a first round pick for Jack Martin we would pass"

I'll do your work for you.

In future, dont talk about things you have no idea about.

Let's see hey?

The Blues will try to do it again. PSD draft here we come.

Then the common denominator would be..?

True, but with pick 7:
  • You get ten good years out of it, not three to four
  • You get a chance at a more structurally important player, like a tall, a forward or even an onballer
  • You get a chance at a star. Not just Saad-level, but a star.
