We all shit on Vic media but they absolutely nailed it with this.

We are the very definition of a pick and choose team and it's utterly shameful.

As unpleasant and as uncomfortable as it was, to watch and hear the critique, it was 100 % correct, every word.

How does a guy like Yeo (normally an absolute competitive beast) just check out like that?

Brown in that OTC segment absolutely nailed it for me. Players have given up on the game style. They know it doesnt work anymore
He looked buggered at the end. Not sure if he had previously run himself into the ground or his fitness is still poor

Sad.

Questioning whether we had a superb 18 finals series and the rest we are ordinary. No that's underselling it, we had a superb 18 and then went up another gear in the finals with contested ball. Let's not rewrite history here.

The players picking and choosing when to go. I sound like a broken record but it's been going on since round 1 2019. We chose to turn it on in a quarter and then the games got glossed over, "we are conserving ourselves, we will turn it on the finals".

The picking and choosing has been going on for 3 years, it's just completely accelerated this year.

I like Simmo, I want him to succeed, but he needs to change now. Don't wait for the off-season, that's an excuse. It's now.

I think he's a dead man walking. He's bought it on himself.

Regarding them bashing Cripps. It's justified for years. But his 5 goals gives him another xyz of credits again.

2 all time great coaches in Leigh Matthew’s and Mick Malthouse. Both coached teams for a similar time period to what Simpson has been in charge of WC, before their time came to an end.
Coaching styles and relationships at clubs can become old and tired, it just happens and that’s ok.
Doesn’t mean Simpson isn’t a great coach, he’s made it to 2 GF’s and won in 2018, just means it’s time to move on.
It always sucks when a club/coach pushes on one year too long and it all goes to shit, but I get the feeling that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
Looks like it could be a big year of boating for me in 2022.

OTC was pretty good, probably the best analysis I've seen from that panel on West Coast. Figures it comes when we are absolutely terrible, but I get it.

This team is a fascinating mess to watch at the moment. It just doesn't make sense that a talented list like ours is producing such garbage. The fact that we're so conditional is an indictment on every level of the club, but particularly on the players.

It feels like the latter days of Malthouse at Carlton when the players just stopped playing for him. But Mick was foreign, parachuted in, put some noses out of joint, and had achieved nothing at Carlton. Simpson is a premiership coach and ostensibly beloved by the playing list.

He needs to locate the malaise and remove it, root and branch. And he can't be afraid to put some noses out of joint in doing so. Find out who you will play for you and play them, the rest will fall into line when they aren't getting a game. The same goes if you're not in elite condition after pre-season, turn up in shape, or don't play. We need some accountability around the place, some standards.

Players have checked out - it's been an unbelievavle capitulation this season. I'm not really sure how we can recover, even for next season.

Needs to be a review into wtf has happened this season:
- is there behind the scenes stuff going on that we're unaware of?
- is it simply that the players have lost faith in the gameplan?
- why have the players lost faith in the gameplan? Is it a poor gameplan or are there other factors that are making the gameplan unachievable (player fitness/injuries)
- how likely is it that simpson can re-engage the playing group?
- are assistant coaches up to scratch?
- is the mix of support staff (medicos/fitness) appropriate? Can our dollars be better spent

Yes it's hard to believe that we are sitting in the 8 yet I think the club has never ever been in such disarray on field.

Probably because of his earlier efforts which were on a par with Nic for physicality and the fact that he has had OP for 12 months, missed a pre full season and will not be fit until he has had a pre season.

To me that clip doesn't show someone who's gassed, it shows someone who's mentally checked out. He barely gets out of walking pace for a couple of mins. An AFL fit player should be able to muster some sort of effort in that time.

And if he is that gassed then he should be playing WAFL and it's terrible coaching to be picking him

Rotham seems to be making a pretty good case for the above also over the past few weeks.

I think Brander to defence at AFL level is worth a try - that said, if Rotham goes out (and surely he has to this week - as much as we want to get games into him he has to go and work on some things) then Witherden is as good a chance as any to come in.
Agree;but we need cornerstone defenders.Brander has the size, kicking skills and marking power, whereas Witherdern is more your Shepherd type player.

Fair enough. I have to be a little careful. It's effectively a bit of a dummy spit. He hates having to run with and being held accountable defensively, this by the way is not new, just missed by many. It's also being called out, not just by media and not before time, in fact possibly too late.
The way his relationship and demands to be played as he wants, on his terms has been handled and the example it sets others, has long been an underlying issue.
