I find it very hard to believe that Yeo does not like being held accountable defensively. He appears to absolutely thrive on the contest, tackles with intensity and purpose, and cut his teeth as a contest killing defender.

He might be frustrated at how much the rest of the midfield have given up upon his arrival into the team, and that he doesn't have the fitness to be relied upon like the boys are doing. Yeo pretty much kick started our season in 2019 by putting the team on his back. That started with some stellar defensive efforts, probably to the point he wrote himself off for a year through injury.

Fair enough. I have to be a little careful. It's effectively a bit of a dummy spit. He hates having to run with and being held accountable defensively, this by the way is not new, just missed by many. It's also being called out, not just by media and not before time, in fact possibly too late.
The way his relationship and demands to be played as he wants, on his terms has been handled and the example it sets others, has long been an underlying issue.
Not disagreeing as I don't know his circumstances,

The only way this makes sense to me is if he is the only midfielder that is required to be defensive and the dummy spit relates to others not being accountable.

In prior year's, pre OP, he was a 2 way running beast.

Should've traded him for a broken down Cripps.

And so in Yeo's eyes, all other midfielders get a 'free pass' and he has to pull a greater load?

Definitely could be that. And they all just expected him to be at 100% the first game he played. Got a touch of the GWS Giants, plenty of talent, expecting someone else to do the work. Which seems to be why we play poorer with all our top line mids in at once.

Nesbitt crisis email like clockwork gaiz

Nothing in the total 100% concrete reports about factual events incoming which involves Simpson Sacked (despite 3 years left on his contract), Clarkson as new coach Yeo traded, Gaff, McGovern, Darling etc etc on the trade table.... like i read on Facebook this morning.

You, like many are blinded by the contest around the ball. Off the ball and defensive running, it's a different story. In fact often even around the contest if asked to run with and check.

Been a significant underling problem for this list for some time now, actually since 2018.
NN and a select few the exception.

It's been senior players that have been the primary offenders and its why the problem should have been nipped in the bud much earlier, by dropping senior players when they started showing theses tendencies.

The problem wasn't addressed and the problem has progressively festered and the attitude has now become contagious.

Unfortunately, the horse has well and truly bolted for season 2021 and all that Simpson has left to work with in his stables are massive piles of horse shit, everywhere he looks and sadly the problem has become so large that Simmo doesn't know quite where to start to fix the problem.

And thats only part of the problem ............... might just want to look at: player management and the game plan Simmo and to look at who has left the gate open so that's allowed the horse to bolt.

I am sorry, but i can't take Nesbitt seriously when every fan, opposition supporter, journalist, commentator and media hack can see that we are absolutely useless at tackling except the people at the football club.

32 tackles in a game of football, in your captains 300th no less

"We will work on that"
"We need to own it"
"We need to turn it around quickly"

etc, etc, blah blah blah

Simpson should just start pre recording some of his generic press conference responses just to save us all time

Probably because of his earlier efforts which were on a par with Nic for physicality and the fact that he has had OP for 12 months, missed a pre full season and will not be fit until he has had a pre season.
Yes, in fairness to Yeo, we know what he can bring and has brought since his return - only a game or two ago and he was a competitive beast with great stats! Maybe what OTC showed signified a collapse in the gameplan, hence a collapse in belief? Re players, you don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Need to know exactly what the problems are and address them correctly.

If there's a negative culture within the playing group, stamp it out. It's probably nothing, but the Harry Highpants piss-take episode and Barrass's nihilist comments post GF we're odd for a highly competitive sport, suggesting a negative attitude or culture?
Coaching definitely needs an uppercut/wake up call.

It's a total mystery, the midfield at times played better without Yeo and Shuey, sometimes with Shuey, sometimes without. And in one or two games back Yeo and NN were the game changers. Yeo just looks totally frustrated. It's like everyone is confused about their roles or game plan.
This excerpt from Simmo we've all heard pre-game...but in a way it's an unusual thing to be saying so deep in the season..general fitness, effort and intent? Still building? Not the finished product yet?

Have you turned the corner you think?

"I’m not sure, I’ll tell you in a couple hours
We got a few guys back and a few guys got a bit more
match fitness in, but we’ve also lost a few players as well.
So we’re still building towards getting our best players
on the track, and match day fitness we thought was a little bit off
a few weeks ago, and effort and intent was a bit off as well.
So we think the intent and effort has got better, but I wouldn’t
Say we’re the finished product yet?"

The core team should be match fit throughout the season with some depth that allows match ready players in.
It all seems a bit late to be talking about these things. Then to cap his comments off,
the team lacked all of match fitness, effort and intent, let alone any clue of what they were doing, in a total collapse? Yes, he has to put a positive spin on before the game and for the players.
Given the media attention, wouldn't surprise to have some kind of breaking news or insider info/ leak from the club regarding their current problems?
Also no excuse, but the Pies played a scintillating game!

On the Yeo stuff. I don't understand that. Gaff for instance covers a lot of areas but does a lot of trudging in the background getting from contest to contest. If he does happen to get near a player with the ball his tackles are ineffectual ditto Sheed.

He is probably frustrated in that he has come back in with a low fitness base for missing the preseason and cant perform to his usual standard and is starting to upset those around him out of that frustration. I could see that.

'We are relying on the leaders of our football club' translates roughly to me that we can expect that those senior players aren't going to be held accountable for their performances and we can expect those on the periphery to continue being rotated in and out for little gain.

This in spite of some of our best performances this season coming off the back of younger sides and inexperienced players stepping up.

The tackling has been a problem for years and the club refuses to address it. We are the weakest tackling team in the comp and other teams know to exploit it.

Is it part of our role driven structure? Someone like a Yeo is given the primary defensive inside midfielder role, and Shuey or Sheed is given the primary tap receiver role, so when either of those things don't occur (Yeo isn't in the vicinity of the opposition player with the ball; Shuey or Sheed don't get the tap), it falls apart and they stand around waiting for someone else to play on instinct to get the game back on our terms (chase, pressure, tackle, win ground ball).

Im surprised that our leaders; be it committe, coaches or players; haven't done something like start a tackle count with prizes and booby prizes handed out each game.A decent prize awarded at seasons end and appropriate rasberry awards given out.It may start out as a bit of fun but being the competitive people they are it would soon become something all are aware of.It would also to a fair extent point the finger.Nobody would want to figure at the bottom of that tree.
Tackling involves effort and grunt. It goes to the very heart of a footy club.
How many years [not weeks or months] can a club ignore such a basic fundamental?
WCE should be looking to make it a focus.
