Why pay someone $1million in a hierarchal system?

Because they formulate the gameplan, lead the players, stand as the face of the club etc. There’s more too a head coaches role than just selecting the players. I’m just arguing against the assumption that it’s ultimately the head coaches decision, or, in other words, that the other members of the match committee don’t actually do anything.

A CEO has a leadership team - it doesn't mean all participants have an equal vote.

We’re talking about a coaching group here, not a board.

No one is saying that the rest of the match committee don't do anything, I'm sure they all provide advice on selections, fitness, availability etc but ultimately the head coach selects the team

Even in communist countries, votes are not treated the same.

Let me make it a little clearer to you - a Match Committee is arranged to give the Head Coach a better context of the issues in the game. This would include who might need to be managed in minutes, who has performed well in the magoos, who is doing the things they have been asked to, what does the opposition have in strengths and tactical battles, etc. It is for input, not delegated proportional representation.

That way the Head Coach has a variety of views and perspectives. They are making an informed decision at the selection table and broadening the sources of INPUT to the head coach.

Yes, I understand all this, but what is the point of having something called the match committee if it doesn’t mean anything? Simmo would receive all this information throughout the week regardless, so it seems completely arbitrary to have a select group of staff within a “match committee“ if it amounts to nothing more than a title.

Look at it this way. We have a midfield coach, Matthew Knights, and he is called that because he coaches the midfield, which he also does on game day. We also have a backline coach (Daniel Pratt), who is called ”backline coach” because he heads that area of the team.

So why do we have a “match committee“ if all it describes are the people that give Simmo advice for who to select? Why do we even blame the MC for poor selections, if it’s ultimately Simmo’s fault?

Well if we lose against Port our season is done.....

If Simmo doesn't put the kids first for the rest of the season it really will be a wasted season.

And my faith in Simmo will be at an all time low !!!

It's really not a difficult concept to get your head around

My assumption was everyone in the match committee has one vote on selection and in the event of ties they go with the head coaches man...

But yeah, could be the MC just provides advice and the final 22 is entirely selected by the coach.

Either way, the coach would definitely have more say than everyone else in the MC.

Simmo is the match committee, having a mc simply gives him a few degrees from responsibility of the terrible selections he's been making since Mitch Brown, fwd pocket, elimination final.

Are you basing that on anything?

There’s always been a match committee. Are you saying it’s always been a protection racket for the coach, or has Simmo converted it into a protection racket? If so, how?

Yes, the amount of beer I have consumed.

It's a great question, and I would like to know if you believe in the moon landing before I give you a detailed synopsis.

If so, how?

It involves cryptocurrency and Elon musk. I'll pm you more information

Actually, it can probably just go here. Interesting read....

So the apologists who are backing in Simmo and saying we cannot read anything into the start of 2022, I thought it worth adding a placeholder for what are seen as the top 7 indicators or where a team are at.

After 5 rounds-

West Coast

Points against: 15th
Opposition score per inside 50: 14th
Points against from turnovers: 16th
Points from turnovers differential: 17th
Defensive 50 to inside 50 transition: 18th
Inside 50 differential: 18th
Time in forward half: 18th

I don't have the Champion Data for 2021 but suspect this is not a 2022 (when we can blame Covid/Injury) but most of what we have seen has been coming for a while.

There is some credit to backing in your leaders to turn it around. What I cannot understand is why you would think you can back in half ready senior players who cannot run out quarters let alone matches and think they can turn it around.

Controversial opinion- He's been out greatest ever head coach.
Keep Simpson and back him in over the next 5 years to build West Coast mk-4 his way

Pyke and Cox are both at Sydney yes?

Why not try to get both?

Pyke has senior coaching experience. Sign him up for say, 4-5 years, with the premise that Dean Cox will assume the senior role after that

We get 2 club legends to return that have experience with other clubs, back into the fold. Sydney is very much in flag calculations this year too

Win/Win
