If the Board was united behind Nisbett and thought he was the right man then why would they nominate an end date to his tenure at all? They certainly were not kean to put any kind of timeframe on it before this weekend. And if they were united in thinking Nisbett needed to go then they would sack him now. And if they were united in being unsure of what to do they could just not make a decision at the present moment and have another meeting to discuss it at seasons end.
But they have done none of the above. Instead they have decided that he needs to go and definately won't be getting another contract, but at the same time they don't want to make the change for another 18 months. It reeks of a middle of the road option that was chosen as a compromise option despite not making much sense.
And the fact that it was immediately leaked to the media makes it clear that not everybody on the Board is a Nisbett supporter. The timing of the leak is humiliating for Nisbett. It looks like the decision was a reaction to recent results, which i have no doubt it was but Nisbett doesn't want it to look like that. It makes it look like a sacking with a long fuse on it. A person in the CEO chair would rather it be kept quiet for a month and then announced at a presser, after all the current anger and emotion have died down, and be presented as a dignified and universally agreed handing over of the baton and not a punishment for poor results. People in C suites never want to look like they were sacked or let go for performance reasons. They want their departure to look like it was their choice.
Could you explain your meme, young man?
End of an era: Nisbett to depart Eagles CEO role next year
West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett’s long-term tenure with the club will end after next season, sources have told The West Australian.thewest.com.au
Another eighteen months of disaster heaped upon disaster. Not sure why it has to take so long
Hardwick got the boot.
Hardwick is a crap coach. You understand the difference between getting the boot and quitting, right?
In what world do you think Richmond orchestrated this?
Hardwick is a crap coach.
Thank you I'll see myself out.
Wooooooo!!!!!!
Certainly possible in this one.You understand the difference between getting the boot and quitting, right?
In what world do you think Richmond orchestrated this?
It's MondayNow I’m even more confused than before about where you’re coming from.
Wyatt from all reports is a great negotiator and leader the club would be in good hands.Inb4 Ben Wyatt is mooted as the heir apparent.
Former politician so he'd be well suited to the spin.
Why wouldn't they just replace him now then if they are united in thinking he is not the right man for the job? Why give him another 18 months? And what makes you think they’re not united behind not renewing him?
And what makes you think a board member leaked it?
Departs when he’s eligible to access his super. Hardly surprising that a bloke going on 68 as at the end of 2024 isn’t going to continue working.End of an era: Nisbett to depart Eagles CEO role next year

He’ll probably weasel his way into maintaining his spot on the board to make sure no one sacks Toddy.
Going by the Daniels interview, if this 18 months story is true, then it makes perfect sense. In the interview Nisbett was touted as the right man for the job regardless of his long tenure. But sensing a baying for blood in the general public domain, they compromise and offer the promise of a scalp, to be delivered in 18 months, to appease the masses now, knowing that a season and a half more of Nisbett will go a long way to helping the club transition toward a hopefully brighter future and a new CEO...(and take the heat off the coach a little, who stays)Think about how bizarre it is. Imagine you own a business and employ a somebody to run it for you. And they want to continue in that job because they think they are good at it. Then you make a decision that that person has to leave that job working for you 18 months from now. They won't get another contract or have their employment extended beyond then no matter what. And you tell the person that too. Why would you do that? If they are crap then you would sack them now. If they are good you would not be thinking about sacking them at all. And if you unsure then you would wait and see and keep evaluating. You wouldn't announce you are going to sack them 18 months from now. That is the most illogical of all 4 options. It is a compromise option.
All sons need to be moved on at seasons end. Eagles have always been very secretive over the employees and it's because nepotism is rampant.Departs when he’s eligible to access his super. Hardly surprising that a bloke going on 68 as at the end of 2024 isn’t going to continue working.

Let's have a look at the bottom of the ladder last year and this year and see what the teams have done with their coaches:
2022:
15th - Essendon: Coach gone
16th - GWS: Coach gone
17th - West Coast: Coach still around
18th - North: Coach gone
2023 Current:
14th - Richmond: Coach gone
15th - GWS: Coach just started
16th - Hawthorn: Coaches 2nd year
17th - North: Coach just started
18th - West Coast: Coach still around
It really is a disgrace
