That was yesterday
Looks okay, shit beard makes him look like he has a round face

It's all in their head. You could see the comparison between the first half and second. First half we looked on from the start but as soon as we started missing opportunities, the confidence went down the drain and richmond climbed all over us.

People say we are slow in the midfield. We might be slow in terms of leg speed, but we certainly didn't look slow in that first quarter. Ball movement beats leg speed any day.

Pyke was our biggest loss imo. He looks like he was the enforcer in the coaches box. Simmo is a little soft but I think Pyke backed him up with a bit of discipline type coaching. Similar to the dogs and bevo. No surprise to see how good the crows are playing this year. Took them 1 year to gel with Pyke and now they are playing hard and getting the rewards.

The two obvious things we have been missing is Nic Nat and Pyke (xfactor and discipline). We got to a grand final with this exact list 2 years ago, so they have the talent. It's just all mental. Im hoping Mitchell is the one to help us out with that side of things.

I do miss that 2006 team and their genuine passion and emotion. Cuzzy was a perfect example, on the field of course.
Also Ben was a great captain - remember seeing shots of the team at the half time break, and you would see Cuzzy going around to the players revving them up for the contest. Shuey is the about the nearest that I can think would come even close to that. Hurn may be a great guy - but leader of men not so sure?

Yes I had a feeling that when Pyke left that it would leave a hole. He has a good football brain, both when he played and also when he coached. I was very disappointed when he left, but he was too good to just be an assistant coach

I think Pyke would have continued on with the evolution of our defensive web better than Simmo. Simpson admittedly looks a bit lost sometimes.
I'm pretty sure that Simpson is responsible for Western Bulldogs, Essendon, Hawthorn and the Swans all loosing as well this weekend. We shouldn't let him off the hook too easily. We should have seen this coming 3 years ago.

Among other things an interesting new twist on Darling to the midfield. As a ruck

Healy obviously didn't see jacks efforts there against north

That said dropping Giles for an extra runner has some merit

Center bounce rucking I think is very important but around the ground not so much.

I definitely think it's worth trying playing with only one Ruckman.

But Healy has a fixation on Darling as a Mid but he's just no good at ground level and turns like a truck lately

Yeo would be a better ruck option around the ground with his leap. But we have only just got him settled playing good footy

Schofield could be a option

But these sorts of changes and far out there ideas should be trialed in the JLT not in an important game against Sydney

I think that I read somewhere that W Rioli averaged 1.1 goals a game in the SANFL including a haul of 5 in one game which would indicate that he would have gone goalless in a few. Someone posted a recent photo of him on here which indicated he had put on a heap of weight since being injured.
I am therefore very surprised that a few on here consider him as the potential saviour of our year and the future of this club.
There are great expectations on the shoulders of an unproven, overweight player yet to make his debut. I would have much greater faith in Venables and Watson making it rather than Rioli.

It's been bleedin obvious that we've lacked a small, smart elusive forward for some time. Richmond fielded three on the weekend, Hawks have three as do the other real contenders. We don't have one, we have medium forwards and Cripps who is adequate without being a goal sneak.

Riloi getting fit enough to play is a an obvious statement as saying his hamstring needs to come good before he will perform. The fact is we don't have that natural small forward and we need one.

Listened to and interesting interview on the Radio last week about young Daniel Rioli.
One of Richmond assistant coaches was talking about how they have this 5m rule for there small forwards and flankers where if there opponents had the ball and they were within 5m they were expected to pressure them and lock the ball in the forward 50, it's one of there biggest KPI.
He went on to say with Daniel they expanded this to 25m and from them doing this his football has come along in leaps and bounds, finding the footy a lot more.
The Eagles should do this with Jetta with meters gained carrying and kicking the footy he needs to use his pace break lines and use his superb foot skills.
He looks lost out there running/jogging round and to be quite frank non interested in been out there. It's like they have thrown him out there with no direction.

Agree with this. His work ethic has been inconsistent, yes - but I think he is being poorly used. He doesn't seem to understand his role in the side.

Definitely been used poorly also noticed a lot of fingers pointing and arguments well what looked like arguments between him and other players on the field. You can tell he is frustrated

And yet he seemed to have a role in the 2nd JLT game, there's one difference since then and it's that Jetta has stopped working as hard.

There's a photo of him on this forum somewhere. He is bending over but looks like he is at least 10kgs over the photo you have posted. Looks like he might have stopped off for a week at "Samp's Turtle Restaurant & Bar" on the way back from the NT. Other than this, his 1.1 goal average in the SANFL competition should not give anyone any confidence that he will make it in the AFL. I'm not saying that he won't make it but it is well known that he has had trouble keeping his weight down and now he has had a serious hamstring injury it will be a hard road to even get back to playing his first game at EP.
Mate, just settle down. The bloke is in fine shape. Just needs a week or two more for the hammyburger to settle.

He was obviously playing up the ground more in the SANFL. Also loves playing a defensive forward role so probably sacrificed his stats a bit for the good of the team.

Believe in willie.

Definitely agree a lot to do with upstairs with him. I just don't get it surely Simmo and the other coaches have sat down with him and chatted about what needs to happen to get the best out of him.
Maybe a Charlie Cameron kind of approach where he comes in of the back of the square full tilt at centre bounces.
I did notice in the JLT game 2 he got a lot of touches early got his confidence up and about and away he went.
Noticed a lot last year blokes burning him when he run passed or got into some open space where they could have used him instead bombing it long down the line.
All in all they need to do something with him he is to good not to be in our best 22 and he has one of our biggest flaws in our side pace. He has pace to burn as we all know they just need to figure out how to use it in our crazy arse lack of game plan.
Over to you Simmo!!!

Love me some of that #flexibility

Interested to see if Simmo is able to rejuvenate this side.

Part of the reason for this thread I think, Simpson needs to wake up and coach this team, find a way to motivate them and get them to play with intent.

Yeah, I wouldn't read too much into Rioli's weight gain. It's obvious from his history the guy just stacks on the weight when he stops exercising but he's shown he can shed it when he needs to. He may take a little time getting back to fitness - it seems like a bit of an inherent weakness for him - but it shouldn't be a medium to long term concern IMO.

Tackling is very poor ,Rioli broke 3 tackles in the one play in the 3rd quarter ..
Got very angry at that play.

Cats were kicked that day.

Sad really that we are 3 games into the season and we already need motivating and be told to show some intent. What happened to "TIME TO HUNT" did they replace that with "RELAX TAKE IT EASY YOU MADE THE GF IN 2015"
It's par for the course, we played like that for the majority of last season as well, apart from a couple of games late in the year
