He's got 2 more assistants with probably another one on the way.

Even though he's contracted, I think he'll be judged heavily next year.
It all depends on
what the club deem to be a pass mark I guess.
Would the club pull the trigger if no prelim appearance after next year? Should be at least a prelim performance after not making week 3 of finals since 2018 imo

Schofield did say that the offer came out of the blue and a return to Perth wasn’t in his plans but when it did come it was too good an opportunity to refuse

With the soft cap you wouldn't think the "too good" part of the offer was financial.
I wonder if there's a succession plan on the cards and Schofield has been tempted with the prospect of being our next coach?

Succession plans are good fodder for journos, not often delivered. There was a suggestion that Schoey would replace Hinkley.
Why wouldnt the Eagles go the marketplace for best available at that time, reflecting that time?

Just listened to an interview he did on SA radio and from he said it was more about the role he was offered looking after strategy and stoppage being a more senior position. It’s also a 3 year contract where he had just the 1 year at Port.

He’s also said that he sees the role as the next stepping stone for him as he works towards one day becoming a senior AFL coach

We win the flag and he gets the credit?

People say Sheeds best was 2018 finals.Footy was a different beast then.He was at the rucks feet and asa soon as he got hands to ball he kicked it; often only 15-20m.It was all about getting the ball forward under enormous pressure. No dinky shit just get and kick.
A little bird told me Schofield doesnt like Hinkley.Cant confirm the story.

Will be interesting to see how well Port go now they lost Schoey and most probably Voss.

I don’t rate Hinkley tbh but they have the cattle Imo to make the 8 easily.
Never really rated Ports midfield.Wines won a Brownlow but so did Priddis.I think they are slow in the middle thats why we go well against them. They have got some good kids.

Their drafting has been terrific. Set up for years.
I think certain players wanting out worked heaps in their favour. They had one or two consecutive drafts where they did really well and it just kept them in the hunt. The interesting one is Boak and Gray getting closed to the end but you’d hope a Duursma, Butters and Drew now really come into their own as a grade mids for them.

Not sure where this belongs but I did a simplistic comparison of JD's first 10 rounds of this year and 2018. Apart from goals the other markers favour 2018 pretty easily, that said that patch in 2018 he was easily the best player in the comp and being compared to every great forward throughout history.
At the end of the day Jacks a confidence player and as our ball movement turned shiter each week, his confidence fell off. Tho the thing I don't like or condone is that he does go to water when things aren't going his way.

Footy classified mentioning the richer clubs will be exceeding the soft cap next year.

Realise that they need more staff/support.
Good, I hope we do.

The soft cap is clearly too low, and most senior coaches have commented on the extra workload and stress.

An extra employee or two could be a significant advantage. That said, if we have a need to spend it on either a motivation expert or heart specialist as we clearly needed this year then no amount of extra money would help.

perhaps the real world bites when you earn good money

Good news for us.

And if the poor clubs cannot afford - join the VFL.

Constraining those who can afford (within reasonable limits) because of the inefficient, poorly run, clubs still hanging off teats is an indictment on the VFL mentality still pervading AFL house.

Don’t even get me started on a 19th team.

Its about fricken time!

What's is the point of us being the most profitable sporting team in the land if we aren't using that capital to get an advantage on our rivals?

I have long wondered why we haven't done this sooner

Maybe we've been talking to the other big clubs to all do it together at the same time rather than one of us doing it by ourselves and being torn apart by the AFL, the media, the minnows and the plebs.

Probably the most effective way to force change.
I love that idea. AFL said no to increasing the cap, so the clubs that wanted it just go ahead and spend the money anyway.
