Geez we will be young next year, Talia, Mackay, Lynch, possibly Walker and Crouch gone.

Youngest list in the league? Surely they can't keep O'Connor and Davis is 50/50.

It was the youngest this year.

Next year could feasibly be expansion club levels.

Matt Crouch is a really interesting one, he’s a restricted free agent. The Crows are happy to keep Matt Crouch but on no more than a three-year deal on their terms. I’m not sure there’s great interest for Crouch, but the club wouldn’t stand in his way if he decides to leave,” Morris told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

David Mackay has been a rookie for the last two years. If he’s going to stay, he’d be a rookie again in 2022. He’s played 247 games, he’s 33 years old. I understand the club would be keen to keep him if he wants to stay, but that would be on a rookie contract. I think those discussions will happen in the next 48 hours and we’ll know by the weekend whether McKay will play on or not next year.”

Mackay wasn't on the rookie list for 2 years. He was moved to the rookie list at the end of 2020, when the AFL changed the rules and allowed clubs to transfer players directly from senior to rookie lists.

I've never claimed that I rate Adelaide as a smart, or well ran football club in recent times. Though they are improving in my estimates by moving Talia and Lynch on. With trying to resign Mackay being the typical step back that this club is oh so fond of.
Hangon you can't praise the club for moving Talia and Lynch on ....then lambast them for wanting to resign MacKay

So does the competence of the List Management Committee depend on the day of the week .....or is it a "vibe" thing

What about Tim O’Brien from the hawks ? Ex SA lad. We were interested in him in his draft year.

from that list I’d go Hopper and SPS. Possibly Stephens as well.

Why not? The correct decision is to move all three on.

We've had a potential 10-year KPD pairing fall into our lap with Talia being out injured, with both Butts and Murray handling the step up to AFL level rather well. The team is in a rebuild, and there is no point wasting the luck we've had in finding them by shunting one of them to the SANFL to accommodate Talia. Lynch is similar, probably would be a capable AFL player next year, but he's also potentially the stopper for two of our best prospects (in my opinion) from getting game time in Cook and Gollant when others are fit and firing.

Mackay is a type of player, that when amassed in enough numbers, is a rebuild killer. Not a player that improves the team competitiveness due to being an average player, is in the way of prospects making the side and is likely to be overvalued by a coaching staff due to how AFL coaches overvalue experience. One of my worries is we're going to fall into the same trap as Melbourne did in 2012, Carlton in 2014-15, Brisbane before Fagan/Noble came aboard, and North in 17-19 by trying to buy our way into being a competitive team instead of seeing it as something earned through developing your kids. Mackay going lowers that risk.

TOB not a need. Seems to have reinvented himself as a solid KPD but I'd rather put games into Butts and Murray

We need some experience next season, we need players like Shane Edwards, Harry Cunningham, Polec or Hurn who have played a number of games.

Im just throwing players, that I can think of from the top of my head.

Edwards would be a grear acquisition.

Is Jordan Dawson happening?

Us doing to another club what was done to us with Cameron/McGovern

I definitely agree Stephens and Lipinski should be priority targets and the ones you listed in the maybe category I think should be ones we should look at if we can't get Stephens or Lipinski.

TOB is a spud imo
He's another player like Frampton or Liam Jones who struggles as a forward but can cobble something together in defence because it's easier

The lowest value players in football imho (unless they play on No 1 forwards)

I'd take Hurn. The others aren't worth it for what they'd bring to the side IMO

Yeah seeing Tim O'Brien's game on the weekend he definitely is talented. I wouldn't mind trying to get him, would be good to add to our backline, I mean you don't get 14 intercepts if you are a dud and against a top four side.

Hopper would be a great get but it's more just me hoping would be unrealistic of GWS letting him go unfortunately. As for SPS I feel Carlton could look at trading him and I believe a fresh start at a new club will do him good.

Who are our "experienced" guys for next year currently?
Sloane
Smith
Laird
Seedsman
Crouch

Doedee
Keays
Milera
O'Brien
Is this enough to move the club forward?

We'll have Sloane, Keays and Laird in the middle plus Seedsman and Milera on the outside. O'Brien is bordering on "experienced"

In defense we'll have Smith, Brown, Doedee and presumably Kelly once his 5 year extension is announced

Forward line will be Walker if he plays on and that's it. If we're adding any experience it should be in the forward line, preferably half forward or small forward

Personally I think the amount of experience we have in defense and the middle is perfectly fine

I keep hearing his re-sigining is imminent but it hasn't happened yet

Reminds me of Lever 'waiting for the CBA to be agreed upon'
I assume it's simply that the distance between our offer and Sydney's offer is giving him pause for thought.

If Sydney can bridge a bit of the gap he's keen to stay.

Time to up our offer
