Matt Crouch is a really interesting one, he’s a restricted free agent. The Crows are happy to keep Matt Crouch but on no more than a three-year deal on their terms. I’m not sure there’s great interest for Crouch, but the club wouldn’t stand in his way if he decides to leave,” Morris told Fox Sports News’ AFL Tonight.

David Mackay has been a rookie for the last two years. If he’s going to stay, he’d be a rookie again in 2022. He’s played 247 games, he’s 33 years old. I understand the club would be keen to keep him if he wants to stay, but that would be on a rookie contract. I think those discussions will happen in the next 48 hours and we’ll know by the weekend whether McKay will play on or not next year.”

Sounds all very plausible. We can't help ourselves so would genuinely have been happy to keep Mackay. And of course would have played him for 20 games as well.
The only way this was going to end was by Mackay making the decision himself. I wonder if he will slot in to the SANFL Captain/coaching role we love to give our golden boys? Could do worse I guess.
I wonder if Mackay going will mean that B Davis gets an extra year on the rookie list?

Wow, we must really be committed to getting a number 1 pick in 2022 if we were planning to keep Mackay.

As is the case I always said would be the case for the last 5 years .....today is such a sad day ....denied himself 300 games for the betterment of the club

You, still after all this time, still don't get his value to the team

Oh I get his value. How to tank without looking like your tanking. "Oh Gill, we are playing a 250 gamer in Mackay, we're trying to win".

If you are calling Mackay a positive influence on our results? Then no, I don't get it because he hasn't been for a decade. An outside midfielder who in the kindest possible way is an anti-outside midfielder. A defender without a reliable defensive, or offensive game. That said, perhaps we did miss his calling as a small forward, though that's off a 2-game sample size. I suspect I'm forgetting when he's been lackluster earlier in his career.

Mackay has been a player who has made a career out of a few highlight plays, a whole load of luck and congitivite dissodence from the club. The example of what a player you should clearly delist at 80 games looks like throughout a career.

And yet despite your assessment, the Club wanted MacKay to go around again

We continue to win this debate .....and finally I claim victory (although never in doubt) :)

Slightly concerning that they were gonna offer McKay a 1 year deal when you’ve just told a younger talia to pack his bags

I would never have offered him another year but I think the two are hard to compare. I think the club feel Butts and Murray and others can hold the key defensive position where Mackay has a bit more flexibility.

Also Talia was one of our highest paid players where as I think Mackay was on a more modest salary.

While Talia says his body is fine and he is doing 10km runs that is very different to a full AFL season. Hopefully his body is good and he finds another club. I think someone will take a risk but probably on much less money.

Geez we will be young next year, Talia, Mackay, Lynch, possibly Walker and Crouch gone.

Youngest list in the league? Surely they can't keep O'Connor and Davis is 50/50.

Sounds like we will bring in the experience for a fresh start. I agree thought we will be young but that's why we need new leaders from other clubs.

It's actually a bit of a concern. Might have gone a bit too far, but feels like the list management is helping save our coaches from themselves.

Well Talia and Crouch haven't played all year so it hardly matters. Lynch only half the season. Mackay is irrelevant as his experience is worthless.

Walker is the one that would really hurt the team

With DMAC, Talia and Lynch confirmed outs this year, our 2017 GF team is starting to look pretty much completely gutted. 7 players left and that could be as low as 4 by the end of the offseason depending on what happens with Walker, Crouch and Kelly.

B: Laird Hartigan Lever
HB: Seedsman Talia Brown
C: DMAC Sloane Atkins
HF: Cameron Jenkins Betts
FF: Lynch Walker Douglas
R: Jacobs BCrouch MCrouch
INT: Knight Kelly Greenwood Otten

No doubt Sholl when in the right mindset is a lovely user of the footballer and team's have woken up to this and are putting time into him and we're starting to see his limitations when he's not allowed to run around like an unregistered dog.
Seems like a player that when is low in confidence, it also affects his kicking. Problem is he need to toughen up and go harder at the ball because then he won’t be down on himself when he loses one on one. A real confidence player but he’s young

Carlton
Sam Petrevski-Seton - interesting player

Fremantle
Adam Cerra - shock bidders!

Geelong
Brad Close - really like him. Different player but can be Lynch's half forward replacement
Nathan Kreuger - wasn't he the best pick of the mature age SANFL guys a couple of years back?

GWS Giants
Jacob Hopper - hope we've sent the dumptruck of money his way

Melbourne
Sam Weideman - Weideman for McAsey - who says no?

Richmond
Callum Coleman-Jones - perfect Himmelberg/Frampton upgrade
Dan Rioli - not sure why he hasn't put it together yet

St Kilda
Jack Billings - Hmmm

Sydney Swans
Malachy Carruthers - skinny Sturt kid, always a long term/long shot. Is he a Dawson in waiting?
Jordan Dawson - yes please

Western Bulldogs
Patrick Lipinski - like his skills
Lewis Young - I've always liked this guy but for some reason he hasn't emerged

One out of left field that would cost us nothing -Kade Chandler from Melbourne absolute professional in how he goes about it still very young big upgrade on Murphy -tackling beast and has class to finish off.

Nothing new here ......His disposal has always been elite, but there was a reason he dropped to #64 in the Draft .....his competitiveness 1:1 was always going to be his archilles heel ......he knows that, and is working on it

The question is his body needs to get stronger to allow a harder attack on the ball

It's not quite comparable. Mackays already on the rookie list where as we'd have to delist and re-draft Talia (or lynch) as a rookie (unless the option to move a player straight to the rookie list was given again as with last year), in which case I'd imagine another team would swoop before he got back to us anyway.

I've never claimed that I rate Adelaide as a smart, or well ran football club in recent times. Though they are improving in my estimates by moving Talia and Lynch on. With trying to resign Mackay being the typical step back that this club is oh so fond of.
