Here’s my view of it

I am 64yo from an era of get on with it don’t complain and respect as being the pillar of what we do. I was subjected to racism, new migrant parents, I had a serious disease I survived, I survived a near drowning in Bali, thankyou surfer guy, my brother destroyed my family bond through being a pr#%^. And you know what I’m told if I bring any of it up - to get over yourself and move on. I still suffer a bit but you know what maybe the best thing we can do is move on. Ok have your say but have to get on with it. Yeah write a book make some money get the masses riled up but Wow what a media circus this is! Eddie was fantastic for the club he was the reason we could get wins by his sheer mercurial talent the team lifted so he will always be a legend of the club. JJ who knows yeah hard life who cares really. Gibbs and anyone else blah blah blah. Anyway be good when all this shiz blows over. And Roo move on mate you’ve had a go now it’s time for some fresh approach. Finally some of the stuff on this thread is unbelievable- perspective people get a perspective! Yeah an emotional train wreck but like Woodstock 99 nobody died!

Just had a 5 minute segment on the camp etc.. on the Best on Ground show on Fox (after the Port game). Probably the most balanced and objective commentary I've heard from the media (which is ironic given this it's meant to be a light, entertainments based show).

Nothing like the hysteric, partisan bullshit that Caro and others have been spewing in relation to this. Was refreshing to hear.
What was said?

Thanks for sharing this, just watched and it is easily the most balanced and informed discussion to date from any media outlet. Highly recommend any Crows fan watch.

They acknowledge there is no need for club punishments as that’s not what the players are looking for and the majority of key people are gone, it is apologies from those involved that players are seeking (which the Crows and now Pyke have done). Browny said it isn’t ideal Pyke did his wearing Sydney gear standing in front of an airport, but it is a start. Discussed that the cover up has made this ten times worse. Bucks also explained that he has no doubt worse camps have been done overtime in the name of building mental resilience, but that doesn’t make it ok either.

If all AFL media was this balanced then I would watch a lot more of it!

What part of my one sarcastic sentence makes you think I am suggesting I am right and you are wrong?

Do you think the breach of confidentiality and then using that sensitive information against a player in an aggressive manner, in public forum is right? Because if you do then I can say with emphatic gusto that yea, you are wrong.

Not getting into a petty argument with you, not even sure why, from all the comments made in response to the original post this was replying to, you chose mine to have a go at. Want to pick an argument go and do it with someone else. Ciao.
I see that you are offended

Greg Griffin said yesterday that the players will sue the AFC and the AFL for a breach of contract. He said that all AFL contracts are between 3 parties: player, club and league.
Did he say what actual section/clause of the contract they feel has been breached? I assume player welfare or some other OHS matter? Doesn't intent play a big part in whether a breach has occurred, or does negligence also come into it?

Proper Gander ???

I'm curious about this as well.

The fact that Jenkins was raised by his grandmother is widely known and in the public domain; someone bringing it up as something he needs to overcome for success is insensitive, but I'm unsure whether it breaches any occupational health law.

I'm surprised Jacobs hasn't said anything - my feeling was always that bringing up his dead brother was the one thing the definitely crossed the line, but perhaps he personally had a different threashold about these things.

Jacobs is employed by the Crows

Dunno. I don’t know what would be in their contracts but mine has a requirement for the employer to provide a safe working environment. Most have something along those lines. I suspect being isolated in the middle of nowhere with drums guy beating in time with his heartbeat and voices-in-head guy might stretch that a bit.

Sure. But he also went away, worked with another club and chose to come back, re-join the club and works as part of the marketing team. If he felt like all trust had been lost, he probably wouldn't want to be selling the Crows message every day.

I think you could point to the fact that camps on remote locations are industry standard, and someone playing the drums isn't necessarily a critically unsafe environment.

Maybe things were discussed behind closed doors upon his return from The giants and kept quiet

Maybe they said "sorry we brought up your brother at the camp" and he said "no worries".

Not everyone is going to to traumatised by what is said to them - even if Jacobs seemed at the deeply insensitive end of what could be said.

In Jenkins recount, he mentioned someone had been removed from the group prior to the camp due to some recent personal trauma and that sent the red flags up for JJ. I immediately assumed this was Sauce re: his brother so I read into that that the wasn't one to cop this abuse.

That could perhaps be true - the rumour had always been about Jacobs brother being mentioned, but maybe it was more that they knew to avoid that.

Or it never happened? He is not in the photo with the group of guys in the extra session.

Media get wind that CM uses personal issues including death in families as part of the Camp process, and assume Jacobs brother death in 2017 was used. Media just putting it together.

And at this point I think that's what a lot of Crows fans are angry with. It's been 5 years of this shit that could have been put to bed in 5 weeks if they were open and honest about it all from the start. Instead we decided to lie, claiming it was for the good of the club, while it was most likely ass covering for certain individuals who didn't follow correct protocols in even getting the camp run in the first place.

Just the fact you're covering up something makes it seem way way worse than it potentially is. You come out at the start and Betts chapter in his book probably doesn't even get much air time at all.

I think what actually happened is they just didn't believe it was a big an issue as Jenkins was making out.

Hell, it was a guy in a vest being held back by his teammates, and someone is shouting the things at them in their life that they need to overcome in order to be successful. I think they heard what Jenkins was saying and just thought he was exaggerating things - I mean, the guy shouted stuff at you that's been covered in the media for years.

Now - easiest would have been to think "it doesn't matter if I think this isn't an issue - he obviously does so I should listen and apologise.' But we were too focused on being right, and dismissing Jenkins (which probably had a whole range of other reasons colouring it as well).
