It looks like most of the round 24 games will have teams vying for finals spots. It's safe to assume we aren't getting Friday night. They won't give us Saturday (Frem@WB, Haw@GC) and it also would clash with all four SANFL games.

Saturday night is a possibility but I think it comes down to Melbourne and if they look like they will make finals, so lets hope that's the case. My guess is we will cop Sunday, especially if Melbourne are out of the finals race. Probably 12:40 if West Coast play on the Sunday (against Adelaide) as they'd have the twilight game.

That's my take.

Never in life did I think I'd be ridiculously pumped for going to a Port v Melbourne game! The fact you blokes get first afl game there isn't really an issue for me. Good taste for what to expect in 2014. Want it packed out to show this is truly what the fans want. Adelaide oval under lights, packed house is always a great experience.

Maybe not, but I'd think it would be unlikely anyway Rory.

Anyone else hold the slim hope that this will result in us playing more games at AO before 2014??

EDIT: Took a look at the round 24 fixture, and you may be right there Rory. My apologies.

Not sure how, if they want to play AFL games in 2014 it will have to be a construction site from early next year and this would limit the crowd size. You maybe able to get a game or two in early next year.

Let's hope it's not a crows game being played there before us.

I don't think they can as they have more members than seating capacity at AO.

Yeah I wondered if they might get first look in. But the logistics of moving one of their crowds - especially if Craigy goes and they win a few - would be tough. Plus they hate moving from their seats not sitting next to their lifelong friends of the crows entire existence. Does Leigh really want to be crocheted to death? ;)

Triggy said they would be happy to play a NAB Cup game there next year but a normal game - no, due to seating logistics

West Coast won't be playing on the sunday lol.
Collingwood vs Geelong must be Friday as to ensure the top team gets a 7 day break.
Gold Coast vs Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle must be Saturday Afternoon as too allow the away teams to be home by Saturday Night.

West Coast could only play Sunday if they where guarnteed a home final in the first week. At this point they could finish anywhere between 3rd and 7th means they have to play Saturday. Sydney are in the same boat. If you knew they would finish 5th or 6th they could play Sunday but you don't, so they have to play Saturday.

Carlton vs St Kilda as Carlton will play finals and St Kilda may finals and it highly unlikely to play in the same final so they both can't play a Sunday final must also be scheduled for Saturday

Richmond vs North Melbourne can be played Sunday because only one of them will make the finals then their elimination final can be scheduled the following Sunday

By the process of elimation, with 100% certainty, Port Adelaide vs Melbourne will be on the Sunday. Richmond vs North Melbourne will be the 2.10 so it can be Seven's broadcast game in Melbourne. Port Adelaide vs Melbourne will be 4.40.

It's too early to say with any certainty where clubs will finish.

The one certainty is the AFL will want this to succeed so a few noses might be put out of joint. This is 90% politics 10% football.

The round 24 fixture isn't done on where clubs finish but where they are be likely to finish 8 weeks in advance. It due to be finalized in two weeks. There isn't enough time for any of things I've said to become untrue.
According the AFL's own rules this is how the round 24 fixture must be done.

No way should Port be allowed to play at Adelaide Oval before 2014,Being able to establish their brand there would be an unfair advantage over the Crows. If this was allowed they would push hard for the same next year, this is typical Port manoeuvring at the expense of the AFC

Urghh, please don't use AdelaideNow comments as an example of a supporter base's opinion. We all know that place is the excrement of online opinion.

FWIW, I'm all for it. I might even go I reckon. I hope more games are played there by both teams in the lead up to the final move, much more convenient.

Great news that its going ahead. Will make that the last game of the season a memorable one and hopefully a win.

Alot of the AFL decisions are based on logic and fairness they are based on $$$$$$

Yeah I too have 3 crows mates keen to come to this game, along with 2 Port fans who have come out the woodwork

Hopefully be a big crowd, fingers crossed we get a good timeslot
