Adelaide's decline

  • Campo turned our midfield into a bunch of one-way running, unaccountable softies.
  • Burton hiring CM who organised the camp clearly divided the playing group in 2018.
  • The rapid declining of senior players who excelled in 2017. Lynch, Laird, M. Crouch, you could even throw Tex into this mix who seems cooked, and no one has stepped up (or been selected) to replace them.
  • Hart's incompetent coaching of our defence and, then last year, our forward structures which didn't actually appear to have any structure at all.
  • Drafting. Ogilvie seems to be popular around here, but why? Since 2015, the only draftee worth anything has been Doedee. Milera has not come along at all, the 2016 crop is a complete bust (some very handy players were picked up after Gooch) and Fog needs to start offering more than a mark and nice set-shot. The 2018 crop needs a bit more time as only Jones has played but do they really scream elite to anyone? We had the upper hand on Port going into that draft yet they still ended up with Rozee while we sat and twiddled our thumbs. Which brings me to...
  • List management. Have only traded in rejects from other clubs and Gibbs which has been an utmost disaster.
Getting rid of Burton and Campo post-review was a nice start but that's all it was. There's a shit load more trash that needs to be binned before the club goes anywhere. Chapman, Roo, Fagan and Hart all need to go, and tOgilvie and Reid are starting to skate on thin ice.

They will struggle to win games this year, Nicks could be sacked before the season is done, very meh and seems out of his depth.
It would be weird to sack a coach after half a season.

Its been a long time since a coach was sacked after just 1 season on the job.

He will get at least this season and the 1st 10 games of 2021 at the most

Man one thing's for sure, Adelaide supporters sure don't seem to drown in optimistic delusions the same way Hawthorn supporters do.

Higher management stinks as every Crows supporter will tell you but their list management and drafting has been shithouse for a good 5 years now. Constantly drafting soft **** wingers and flankers with all your valuable picks will hurt you in the long run. They haven't taken a midfielder in the top 30 since Matt Crouch in 2013.

They still haven’t cleaned out enough to fix the joint. Every single player and member of staff at the club at the time of the camp needs to go. Even ones that had nothing to do with it directly or indirectly. Especially the spin doctors who denied and deflected. Given they are one club that is unashamedly a franchise, it makes little sense that they can’t collectively commit to the idea of a 100% clean out. There’s no “fabric” to protect or preserve so why the sacred cows?

Particularly this one - Ricciuto. His being pope of the Adelaide Crows means they’ll never come good while he’s there in any official or unofficial capacity.

They got Schoenberg last year at 24. He could turn out to be a decent mid.

Yep this.
Ruccioto has turned into a cancer for that club.
But just like hird at Essendon and SOS at carlton the club seems ignorantly defiant to tap him on the shoulder

I’m well aware of what the trading situation is. They can’t take a player with a pick they don’t have, and at that point in time thought Stephens would slip through to their selection and were weighing up who they’d be taking.
Clearly you aren't, sweety. You seem to be blissfully unaware Adelaide originally had your club's first pick last year.

Have a look at the Phantom drafts at the time the trade with GWS was made and see where Stephens was ranked.

Covert homosexual advance aside, it looks like you’re completely clueless yourself.

What is it about Adelaide trading pick 4 to GWS for pick 6 and a future pick you're too stupid to grasp?

They had an opportunity to draft Stephens, but they traded the pick away. For someone who claims to understand how the trades worked, it's abundantly clear you don't.

Have a look at the Phantom drafts and rankings at the time the trade was made, roughly a week prior. Stephens wasn’t in the picture to be taken as early as 5, and at the time it looked as though they were trading down because Stephens would have been available at 6 anyway. There is still negotiation after the trade period ends, and the landscape (and intel) is nowhere near as linear as you’re suggesting, with no guarantee Stephens would have been there at 4 either.

If they really rated Stephens they could have kept the pick (assuming he was available), but he was a low possession winner as a junior and McAsey was the best key position prospect in the draft, and they felt like they needed to address that area far more than taking an outside player - they’d already bought two flankers in with early picks in the previous draft.

Not really a surprise, they are where most of their fans expected them to be - it's rebuild time.

It's only one game but it was striking how much energy the young Port players brought to the contest last night and that is what the Crows need to get into the club.

Off field is a bigger concern, as another poster said starting to get some pre-fall Carlton vibes coming out of West Lakes admin.

This was the worst of it all.

A review sanctioned and run by the people who needed to be kicked out.

Who specifically excluded themselves from the scope of the review.

It was a sham.

Our ****head chairman was the guy who presided over the Tippett debacle (which is a big factor in our talent gap), Collective Minds, multiple sacked coaches, employing Burton, etc.

The AFC management are absolutely ****ing useless, and are directly responsible for the terrible state of the Club.

*incoming excuses and club apologists*

Adelaide, as a football club, only have themselves to blame for the period I and many perceive they are about to enter. So many bad decisions, excuses, cover ups, denials and errors have been made. Only an idiot would deny that they have occurred, yet so many supporters do and the club has played them down or ignored them from a management level the entire time, review included.

Not many apologists left mate.

All dates from the 2017 grand final.

Richmond broke the club.

Heart and soul, since then they've only been an echo of what they were before that day.

There is no denying that date will be the one we all remember that started our decline. But the real issues were much deeper than losing a game, however big it was. It was the decisions, events and people within the club made after that date that did tje damage.

Even more telling though is the fact that the club's culture had obviously been off for the better part of a decade given how many players seemed happy to leave. Papering over the cracks with decent finishes allowed those at the club to deny a problem and instead blame the individual player for leaving- now we know that the place just isn't/wasn't an appealing option for players.

As you could read there aren't too many Crows fans, if any at all, that are trying to deny our problems. This could be a really frank, interesting and mature discussion across all supporters but you seem insistent to try and bring it down to trashy magazine levels.

I urge you to do better and be better. Contribute a meaningful post not hit n run rubbish designed to incite.

Crows best two players were Crouch. Mediocre forward line, mediocre back line. no emerging talent.

We got absolutely belted in the midfield though. Has been happening for a season now. Crouch x 2 have absolutely no defensive accountability.

We are completely breaking down in the midfield. It means that our defence is under constant siege (they are actually our best line, they do a good job, they simply cannot sustain constant repeat I50s - no defence can).

Our forwards don't get a chance when our midfield cannot win the ball at the stoppage and won't contribute to rebounding from D50.

I'd say Fogarty is a player most people would agree has the potential to be good. We can debate on the others but it's true they aren't necessarily future superstars.

This needs to happen to Adelaide. For multiple reasons.

Admin can get pressured into resigning and allowing everyone to move together forward. Right now there appears to be a gap between the admin and football department going by Andrew McLeods comments.

Secondly draft picks. High ones. Much needed. The talent simply isn't on the list to compete.
Come end of 2021 wouldn't be surprised if we got a priority pick for how bad the on field is going to get.
A lot of this can be traced back to Kurt Tippett sanctions which were exceedingly harsh.

RFC broke the Crows to pieces. In every respect. It is harrowing to learn the truth about yourself, and to learn that one is a liar. Many don't recover.

It’s a rebuild season, they have admitted this publicly which has never happened at our club. It will be hard to watch but it needs to happen. Nicks was brought in for the long haul and his selections so far have been positive, I hope it continues.
I hadn't realised club had acknowledged its on a rebuild path.
Makes sense I guess but if you are starting anew, to be effective you really need everyone pulling in the right direction which includes the administration.

This.

Until you hit bottom or the club pulls their fingers outta their ears it needs to get worse.

No senior person can stay. NONE.

Look at how long it took Port to move on from 07...until they got in completely different external people it just kept getting worse.
