After his Freo heroics he deserves one.

Dodoro has made some mistakes but who hasnt. Expectations are high when you represent a team who have had such success and won 15 grand finals (2nd most successful in history)
Amazing how you guys are the only club out of "the big 4" not to have won a premiership this century.....

There was a game against Stkilda in his third year where he had 13 score involvements before getting injured two minutes before half time. Tonight Graham had 10 for the most on the ground for context, last week Hawkins had 12 in the most dominant forwards game of the year. His body wouldn’t hold up such was the way he attacked the ball but he would have been a great forward.

Hurley was a forward but proved his mettle defending his right to not pay a taxi fare and the rest is history.

Personally happy we didn't burn 2 firsts and a mill plus a year on Sheil. Would be watching Max King running about in a GWS jumper while Sheil has 25 ineffectual dinky posessions.
Yeah I wasn’t to fussed to miss out on Shiel he was made to look a lot better in the gws midfield has been shown up now . We probably wasted a lot of money on hill as well but at least the picks we gave up were in a nothing draft

For all his apparent faults, and as bad as it all looks on the field at the moment, Dodoro et all have found another 3 players in 2020: Ridley (likely all Australian), Draper who played another excellent game last night and the debut of Irving Mosquito. Redman has been battling groin soreness the last 6 weeks which has impacted his most recent form but I will add him as an almost a 4th player found in 2020.

Taking out all the other factors like injury management, culture, game plans and resultant ball movement I stand by my previous claims the list is better than most think. We simply aren’t able to see it deliver results with all the other issues compounding to impact on field performance unfortunately. It lacks balance in the midfield and also depth. But majority of clubs have obvious list flaws and clubs battling injuries are in most cases struggling on field (Eg: Collingwood, Kangaroos).

If, and it’s a big if, the club can retain Daniher, Fantasia and McKenna beyond this year and fix its injury management, 2021 could be a decent year with the list build hopefully coming together. This result will see the club try and secure more midfield depth to support its younger and smaller midfield brigade.

However if it can’t secure the above 3 players, then this changes things considerably from a list management perspective and will likely result in the club taking a different direction with its decisions on its current list.

How can you know that? There was talk that Carlton would have to part with pick 1. We do know Carlton were willing to offer significantly more money.

GWS had all the power at the trade table with being Shiel was contracted. 2 firsts and a second coming back is about par for similar level deals imo.
A very reliable ITK poster on the Carlton board said that Essendons final offer was alot more than ours. Carlton had been the front runners until that point.

His shoulders wouldn't have held up as a permanent forward, that was the fear as far as I recall, but yeah he had the talent for such a role, no doubt.
I didn't realize he had issues with his wrists. I just feel like what I saw of him as a junior hasn't translated into what I thought his AFL career would be.

I've been trying to suggest this for some time now. Our game plan of long, slow down the line is a result of having little to no tall targets down the line capable of taking a mark (see Daniher, Stewart on the side lines). If they are unable to be targetted then a medium marking target is often the next best option but again, we've missed our two best med fwds in Stringer and Fantasia. Add to the fact our midfield has been under siege and we are probably battling well above where we should be.

Broke both his wrists in his maybe second year at the club. Has never been the same player since. Would have had an even better career if this were not the case.

Hurley was named at Full Back in the 2007 TAC Cup team of the year and at CHB in the 2008 TAC Cup team of the year, and played his entire junior career as a backman. Not sure when he "killed it as a forward as a junior" .......
I saw Hurley play alot as a junior and he had some awesome games as a forward. But he was the ultimate swingman for sure. Played very well at both ends of the ground

A very reliable ITK poster on the Carlton board said that Essendons final offer was alot more than ours. Carlton had been the front runners until that point.

It was widely reported by the media that he left money on the table to come to Essendon. I think I’m going with him over a Blues ITK poster. His pre COVID salary was also published this year at 750k which is right in line with what was reported.

Carlton offered their first rounder to the Swans for Papley. The Swans offered that first rounder and their own first rounder to Essendon in exchange for Daniher.

"Fathead" Dodoro knocked back the deal wanting more for Daniher. In 2020, Daniher has not played a game and will leave the Bombers at the end of the season for free.

Had Dodoro taken the Swans deal for Daniher, he could have gone to the draft with picks #4 & #8 (they became 5 & 9 due to the GC's priority pick). This means they could have taken any two of the solid mids that were on offer last year (eg. Young, D. Stephens, Serong, C. Stephens).

The Bombers need some extra bodies in the engine room and two of those draftees would have been a godsend but Dodoro was obstinate and refused to meet halfway, this is a perfect example of why he is a serious impediment on their success.

Hope they sign him to a 10-year deal now.

Not my understanding. My understanding is that he was drawn by his previous teammates at GWS who were at Essendon and found Essendon slightly more authentic.

All of this might be true, but I belive it was Essendons final offer that got them over the line. Anyway, its all history now. I'm happy we have Setterfield now, who we wouldn't have had if we got Shiel. And he didn't cost two first round picks.

Thats not my post.
And how is Carltons crapness this century relevant to this thread anyway?
You started banging on ignorantly about how Essendon have won "15 premierships" they've won 16. So i was just continuing on with that theme.
But yeah I've got no ides why you brought up premierships in this thread, but you have, soooooooooo......................

You’ve mixed up posters. I understand it’s an easy mistake to make with Carlton supporters swarming this thread.
