Hi just need a bit of guidance. On impulse, I brought very cheap airline tickets to Sydney.

Now I need to find a hotel close to the SCG. Can anyone recommend some that are within walking distance to the ground ?

Also how long would it take to get to the hotel from the airport ? I believe that some hotels even run a shuttle service to & from the airport ?

Otherwise I'll just get a cab.

Can I but a ticket at the ground or is it better to buy the ticket beforehand ?

Thanks

www.wotif.com for your hotel, you should pick one up for $200 a night which will be4-5 star...

It is probably better for you to stay in the CBD itself as there will be things to do afterwards, plenty of bars and what not..

Cab ride from the Airport will be approx $25 - $30 into town and the SCG will be $15 - $20 into town.

I think there is a bus that runs back into town but im not too sure.

Before game entertainment the Bavarian Beer Cafe is always good value, mind you a litre of beer is $20 - smaller available, or the fox Fox and Lion for a good Sausage on a Roll and a few beers - both located in Fox Studios

Any more questions, put them up and i will see if i can help you out

If you really are intent on a short walk from your hotel to the SCG, you're best off looking for something in Paddington. It's not an area with loads of hotels. You'll find a trendy boutique there, or if a pub-hotel is more your thing, there are probably some around.

Surrey Hills might be another suburb to try.

Both Surrey Hills and Paddo have lots of bars, cafes and restaurants too.

It's really not that far, though, from the city to the SCG. Some would say it is walking distance, though that depends on where in the city you choose and how much you like to walk. If you find something close to the Central end of town, it's likely to be no more than a 15 minute walk. If you find something down by Circular Quay it is probably 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how fast you walk!

Shouldn't be any need to buy a ticket before hand. Don't think we've sold out a game since the SCG redevelopment was finished. Depends, though, on how fussy you are about where you prefer to sit.

If you can't get a hotel transfer i'd recommend catching the airport train - it's $15ish but pretty quick.

SCG is walking distance from Central Station (15-20mins iirc) and should be fun walking there with all the Swans supporters :D

Hi all thanks for the excellent feedback. I did a Google search & came up with a couple of hotels. The one that I will probably use is called The Arts Hotel in Oxford St Paddington. They provide a transfer service to & from the airport which is handy. Quite good rates for 1 night too.

I will buy the ticket at the ground. It won't be a sellout!

I just need to make sure that I get a seat behind the goals, so that I can put Braddy off his game...And no I won't pour beer over him!

I think he is going to be too good for whoever we put on him. Still can't believe we lost him :(

Thanks again for your advice.

nice one, "the local tap house" is close to you and would be a good bar to hit up before/after the game.

we generally meet at the cricketers hotel which is about 300m away from the tap house :)

hope you enjoy your stay! but hopefully not because the lions won!!

Thanks. Where is the cricketers hotel ? I might make an appearance there if that's the place to go.

I can't see the Lions winning this week. Your game is seemingly too organised for us at present. Don't think Brown or Merrett will play either. So Bolton won't be a massive loss for you.

plus if you walk from central you can stop by the cricketers arms hotel for a beer and some friendly banter :)

Or the Cook Hotel, right on the corner of Anzac parade and Moore Park Road, cheap steaks or burgers at the bistro and fairly cheap schooners are a good way to go before a game.
