Taylor probably the most promising to see from that list.
Feel like we have a steal with him. Should have gone top 30 in the draft.
All promising in their own way I guess. We need guys to pressure the incumbents. Rowe is far too good for SANFL level, can he make that step.

Big Red was solid in his AFL games last year.

Hately NEEDS to make some gains

Match Report: SANFL trial

A fourth-quarter comeback was not enough for the Crows to topple North Adelaide in a SANFL pre-season game at West Lakes.
Adelaide trailed the entire match and entered the final term 45 points down before a flurry of goals with the wind levelled the score.
But in the dying seconds of the match, the Roosters kicked a point to claim the smallest of victories.
Adelaide had kicked eight goals to North’s one in the fourth.
Jackson Hately was dominant throughout but threw on the afterburners late in the game, kicking three majors in the final term.
Brayden Cook shone for all four quarters and grabbed the Crows’ opening two goals of the game.
Will Hamill endured a quiet first half, like the entire Crows side, but came to life in the second according to SANFL coach Mick Godden.
“Easy way to put it is we were rusty in the first half and then really strong in the second half,” Godden said.
Jackson Hately was very good through the midfield. He played a really good brand of footy, pushed forward and kicked a few goals.
Will Hamill really stood out for me as well, quiet in the first half but enjoyed a really strong second.
Perhaps best of all, Wayne Milera returned to competitive football for the first time in almost a year and finished unscathed, adding a goal to the scoresheet in the fourth.
“He’s such a popular guy and he finished the game unscathed,” Godden said.
“There was an excellent moment late in the game where he pushed forward, laid a smother and kicked a goal.
“It will give him a lot of confidence as well.”
Adelaide will play Norwood in its next SANFL trial on Saturday, March 19 before the season commences on April 1 in a showdown curtain raiser.
Adelaide:
2.1 2.7 4.11 12.15 (87)
North Adelaide:
6.5 9.8 12.8 13.10 (88)
Goals:
Hately (3), Cook (2), Strachan (2), Hutchens, Clamp, Freeman, Milera, Parnell

Freeman’s only 26 still. We are very light on for explosive mids- we have all of eggs in our Pedlar basket, unless you count Rachele? Anyway, for midfield balance, surely we could give him a two year deal on min wage?
Edit - unless list is full, in which case put seeds on lti list?

Went to the game this morning.

After a terrible start with wayward disposal Freeman stood out with his break away speed from stoppages especially centre bounces in the second half, his disposal was a lot better also.

Rowe is a very clever player who’s skill level is way above SANFL level. He was working hard on providing pressure in the forward half. On one occasion he provided a contest on the wing and was outnumbered 2 to 1 but was able to bring the ball to ground and then give off to another player which in turn lead to a goal.

Cook did a couple of nice things early and shows class, just needs some more game time, he spent a fair bit of time on the bench.

Hately was pretty ordinary until the last quarter when he suddenly looked like the player we all want to see. He was fumbling, going to ground in contests and kicking blindly but credit to him for lifting in the last.

Taylor impressed me in the second half with his vision and composure with the ball in contested situations. He so much reminds me of Lachie Neale.

Nankervis was really impressive, he is not afraid to hold onto the ball within the contest and look for the right option despite having pressure around him, a lot of players in the same situation just handball or kick quickly like it’s a hot potato but he showed real composure. He appears to have very good spacial awareness which some of our other players do not. He also is prepared to work hard defensively showing he could play in many positions. He hurt his leg part way through the 3rd quarter but he really excited me with some of his efforts.

Strachan was very good around the ground taking marks and providing a contest in the ruck.

Newchurch didn’t do much to show me he will play any time soon, he just doesn’t have an appetite to go and get the football when there is the slightest bit of pressure.

Parnell did a couple of things in the second half including a nice running goal. He is still very slight, has a nice kick but I can’t see him playing any time soon, he gets bumped off the ball too easily.

Borlase did some nice things in defence, he is a bit slow to release the ball when he takes a mark but he is a better defender than a Mcasey and certainly isn’t afraid to put his body on the line.

Milera worked into the game but still needs a couple more weeks to get his touch. He kicked a good goal in the last and all the coaches were going nuts with excitement which was nice to see.

Worrells kicking was pretty ordinary especially his short passes 2 of which failed to hit a target despite no pressure which both resulted in turnovers. He was constantly being encouraged by the bench and Tex in particular to continue to show work-rate. I assume this is an area of his game that needs improvement. He played across half back but didn’t do anything that screamed pick me in the league team.

Frampton tried hard and was the defensive general, the coaching staff continually gave him information to pass on to the other defenders often referring to him as the leader down back. He isn’t the worst option as a backup key position defender but every now and then he does something and you think ah that’s why you are in the reserves.

Hamill was another they were constantly encouraging to be stronger over the ball. Bello shouted to him at one stage when he came off about being stronger in the contest and taking the body with the ball. He did provide some run off half back and I imagine is pretty close to senior selection.

Mcasey didn’t do anything to make me think he will be playing league anytime soon. He falls over in marking contests and often lets the ball get over the back. He is slow with ball in hand and slow over the ground, he has no closing pace as a defender and looks devoid of confidence on the ground. He did kick a big 60 m goal during the last quarter but that was his only highlight.

They played a lot better in the second half, their ball movement was a lot better and the clearances from Taylor, Hately and Freeman were the highlight. At halftime I was wondering what all the fuss about Freeman was, by the end of the game I was thinking he would be our best midfielder in the league team. His acceleration from a stoppage is something I haven’t seen from us since Dangerfield.

Anyway it was interesting to watch and I was impressed with our draftees in Taylor and Nankervis along with what I saw from Rachele and Soligo last week. Think our latest draft may have been pretty good.

Bingo, the list is full, however we'll have an LTI at some point.

Likelihood we won't put Seeds on that list, not unless he hasn't improved by June.

He seems a long off at the moment

I mean, even bad concussions tend to be around the 2-3 months mark, so likelihood is he'll probably be close to being back by the time the mid-season draft comes around (if not back). It'd have to be career ending level of bad if we're considering shutting him down for the season at this point.

Is that what lti means? I had a vague idea it was anything >8 weeks

It's six rounds where a player isn't able to compete (even if they recover). You'd only do it if you're either wanting that MSD pick (which would result in the player being inactive for the rest of the season after that point), or a cat B player being eligible for games.

Why did they not give him a run?..

Surely his suspension cant stop him from playing in a trial game?..

Chuck him out there to shake a few cobwebs off.

We could have helped him shake off cobwebs by giving him a half in the AFL games. But we’re too focussed on round 1 continuity. If he doesn’t get a hitout then it’s entirely on us.

Not sure he was allowed to play, I think they closed that loophole after the uproar over Danger playing last year

Would a half now help that much before 6 weeks off?

Wonder if it was actually a loophole that lasted that long. Maybe no club had ever asked and they’d just assumed suspended players couldn’t play trials. I don’t agree with it, 4 games is 4 games. If you can’t play 2 trials, then that’s 2 games done. Otherwise, they should be able to play trials.

Mcasey no good again?

He really needs to start dominating lower league footy. We aint asking for an Alex Rance type defender at this point so a Kyle Hartigan will have to do so we can get some small value from this pick.

Never draft a key defender this early ever again!
