We did keep the player after a drink driving offense, right?

He just then had two seperate additional drug offenses?

I think the club gave Stengle multiple opportunities - maybe he just needed a couple of years to realise what he'd lost before he could sort himself out.
Good read on the situation .

Who was the last player to have multiple transgressions in the one year that remained on a club's list?

Blokes like De Goey got caught for shit behaviour once, so who was the last player to do it multiple times in one year and survive?

Stengle survived his first incident but couldn't survive the third, so I'm keen to know if other clubs have persisted with similar players
I reckon Steve Johnson used all his chances at Geelong before being presented with an ultimatum similar to Stengle. Shape up or ship out!

Very similar behaviours thinking back now.

Edit... Not same year though

This is a 2014 article from the Age but still completely relevant today with regard the Stengle situation.

I think this is really relevant.

An admistration like Geelong who has history I'm supporting players through this whether it's Stokes or Stevie J knows what it takes to get to the other side.

They would enter the stengle conversation with confidence that they knew how to support him to get the best out of him.

I don't think the AFC knew/knows or had faith that they could turn things around. It's experiences in this space haven't ended well probably drawing experiences such as those with Angwin.

He's not far away from a debut.
Agree. If you watch the training vid from Wednesday they showed Newchurch at the beginning and end. Knowing how the crows operate he will play next round I would suspect. He deserved his opportunity some time ago.

It could have backfired on Stengle badly.

He had a guaranteed contract for 2022 with us but didn't want to accept our punishment to play in the SANFL for a year.

He decided to end his contract with us on the gamble that he'd get picked up in the mid season draft, which didn't happen, so he ended up playing SANFL all year anyway, just without the security of an AFL contract for the following year.

He's very lucky Geelong took a chance on him, because half way through the season it didn't look like anyone was interested.

Had he not been picked up he would have been the fool, but instead he was, so now we look to be the fool

It's not a risk when you get paid your full contract. Whatever he got paid this year by Geelong is on top of what he'd have earned with us. Only him and the tax man win on this one.

No one touched him in last mid season draft and got a call up by Geelong at 11th hour end of year

Geelong in their position with strong senior players could afford the risk , of course Eddie helped

he chose Geelong, how many suitors he had is not known. It's a bit like our version of the Brad scenario where we spoke to 16 other clubs about what they'd pay if we matched and traded and nobody would pay anything. Awfully convenient that.

Sorry.. i shouldve written it as DUI.. not just drink driving..

Driving under the influence of either drugs or alcohol..

Like I said.. do all the coke you want.. but drink/take drugs and drive and you can faaark right off..

Speeding is the number 1 cause of accidents. Driving under the influence is pretty much on par with fatigue and distraction combined. DUI is nowhere near as big a problem as made out to be. Pretty much every person driving home under the weather tonight makes it home safe. As long as they don't speed. Speed and DUI is a near certain disaster waiting to kill.

He did well out of it. Also got an SANFL flag for his troubles.

I'm more annoyed that he looks noticeably quicker and more agile now he's slimmed down. He must have been on the Mitch McGovern diet during his time on our list.

Wrong again the offer was to go back to his original SANFL club WWT for the season and remain on our list...Either he or his management thought he was a monty to get picked up in the MSD....they were wrong.

Luckily for Tyson Betts took up the coaching position for the Cats and he got a lifeline..more good luck than anything else involved there.

It was a risk free strategy because we had to pay out his contract in full anyway. He got what we owed him for 2 years plus whatever side hustle he picked up. Seems we've taken quite the shine to paying players that don't play for us. In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.

All Tyson's contraventions included 3rd parties. The simple reality is that neither you or I know how many indiscretions clubs allow. It's only when it's overt that we find out. The league's own 'health based' illicit drug policy punishes significantly greater an overt strike than it does a test event. The league is full of shit and anybody supportive of how we dealt with Stengle is a bit of an idiot. Our club's golden children are doing nothing different except not getting caught.

To be fair, half of it was covid impacted. And this was how our leaders presented themselves.
