Interesting comparison

2010 Stokes gets arrested on a drugs charge. Charged with possession and trafficking.

2011 plays in his second premiership for Geelong. Hmmmm.

Kicks a couple of hundred goals for them, retires in 2015. Later employed by the Cats in a player engagement role.

Pretty good support I'd say.
Learns from his 1st misdeanour...smarter than Tyson obviously.

He must have learned while he was sitting out the 2011 season with his VFL club
Pity Tyson didn't pull his head in after his 4 week stand down for drink driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Arrested for drug trafficking = drink driving offence

Kept the player, benefited from his performances

vs Dumped the player, another club benefited from his performances

Just another in a conga line of judgement misses

He was given multiple chances and stuffed up....The club did the right thing IMO offering the chance to go back and and keep his nose clean for 12 months for another shot at it. Tyson and his management weren't happy with that as they expected he'd be a monty to get picked up in the MSD....he wasn't.

The only reason he got another shot at it was all down to Betts going to Geelong and mentoring him...spin it whatever way you want.

Wouldn't put it past us to delist Newchurch.
  • Pick a raw, development type player.
  • give him two years in the SANFL, and not pick him despite averaging over two goals a game for over a month. Has areas he needs to work on.
  • Back the boys in (Rowey, Ned, Murph)
  • Delist Newchurch
Not if you heard Nicks the other day and he has any say in list management.

now with especially the midseason draft it's no long the end of the world getting delisted. get your head down, go back to north and get yourself back in the system pronto. not that i think he'll be delisted, it's a hard position to play small forward.

I think that many recommending the promotion of Newchurch have not watched him closely enough. Admittedly, he can kick a few goals, but his MO is that he does very little apart from that. Can we afford zero effort/output apart from a couple of opportunities in the square?

To be fair, in exactly one SANFL game this year he played a complete game, with running, tackling, and goalkicking, so he can do it, but that was a big exception. I think he needs to stay in SANFL until he is more consistent with effort. I'm sure we don't want to see him spend an AFL game mostly ball/opponent watching and choosing when to go. ;)
Agree his defence isn’t the best but if he kicks a few goals, that will put pressure on his opponent and not zone off. Murphy and McHenry absent hitting the scoreboard at all, therefore their opponents run off and do damage knowing their man won’t kick a goal. We can do a lot worse then give him a game or 2. What have we got to lose really

Well, if that rumor about one of our players recently is true, then you'll be glad to know another improvement out club has made is to close ranks and keep it quiet if possible.

Tick! Amirite?

For sure , to an extent .
At the moment Stengle has played 12 games for the cats, the same amount he played for us in the 2020 season.

At crows in 2020 in 12 games he had 8g9b, for the cats he has 23g 15b

Rowe for comparison has 10 games this year for 7g7b. Rowe's pace is matching Stengle's at the crows.

I'm inclined to agree with Mutineer that there's not much between the two, they are incredibly similar players really, similar heights, speeds, build, footy iq. In fact I'd say Rowe has more upside given his much shorter time in the system than Stengle.

The frustrating thing about that video is that Nicks specifically mentions Cook and Newchurch. So if he can see what we can, then why isn't Cook a permanent fixture in the best 22? And if he thinks Newchurch could find a higher level "with more predictability" easier, than why haven't we given him a shot?

BECAUSE THEY TALK SHIT.

Just like Burns talked up Worrell and Newchurch months ago and that’s got them no where.

Stengle has far more X factor and showed that with us - just not consistently. Has had a couple of years of maturity and training since he was with us. And results for our forwards in 2020 don’t even count - we were as bad as any side ever

“Ned McHenry’s gone to another level with his game.”

Really? Hmm.
To be fair, he didn't specify up or down. ;)

However, I don't see why BF obsesses over the public utterances of coaches and other officials. They don't mean a thing and are really just a PR dance. Noone says what they really think.

Stick to criticising the actual outcomes, the only things that matter.

Ok.

Ned is a scrapper who we drafted in the first round, yet continue to play because he’s hectic despite a complete lack of polish.

Crouch is rubbish and playing him is hurting both immediate results and long-term midfield development. Etc.

I reckon public comments matter because they’re heard by the players and their friends & family as well, not to mention us fans plus the media.
