Taylor: Started slowly before leaving his stamp on the game in the third and fourth with some classy playmaking. A good first SANFL final, though probably not at the level I was hoping for.
Not the level you were hoping for???? He's 18 and had 17 disposals and kicked a goal in his first SANFL final, what more do you want from him? just a reminder again he is 18! In his first season playing against men. Pretty damn high standards if you didn't think that was good enough

There was 43 other blokes out there who couldn’t keep up with Izzy… serious wheels. Nice to see him getting some reward after toiling in the Centrals 2’s.
no one out there is faster than newchurch.

but he could barely get out of 1st gear today.. clearly still playing injured but with nothing but more top ups allowed to be bought in to replace him I guess they figured they have nothing to lose in playing him.

Amazing how many people are writing Cook off after today. He’ll be just fine. Arguably as talented as anyone on the list.
Cook AND Gollant were awful today. But that’s ok. We know they can both play. I tell you who I was impressed with, McKenzie…. Is he our fastest player? Bloody hell he can move! Taylor and Pedlar were fabulous. As was Strachan.

Ok first point - playing against men means sweet **** all. If it meant something, quality kids coming through the SANFL/WAFL pathway would have an advantage over Victorian kids entering the AFL. Evidence points towards the opposite.

Point two - I do have high standards for Taylor, as I expect him to be putting in performances that'd move the needle towards AFL selection, based off his last two months. He's done it before, against both North and Eagles as well. Whilst he did well in the second half, he didn't have the game I wanted from him.

I thought I saw him feel his hammy when he was playing on the wing in the last.

Good, tough win to start off the finals series. Notes on the AFL listed players.

Pedlar: 3 high quality goals and looked dangerous throughout the time he was on. Excellent start to the finals from a player who needs a big series.

Cook: Had some nice moments on the ball, but was a trainwreck defensively. Still, I'd probably have it as a poor game from Brayden.

Nankervis: Excellent game. Industrious throughout on the wing, invovled in a lot of link play and kicked a nice set shot in the first. Skills can be a bit unclean at times which is my only knock.

Taylor: Started slowly before leaving his stamp on the game in the third and fourth with some classy playmaking. A good first SANFL final, though probably not at the level I was hoping for.

Gollant: He got two goals (first one was class as *) but boy was he off this week. Fumbled everything, barely took a clean mark and his ground game wasn't his usual standard. That scoreline could have got ugly for Norwood if Gollant was on.

Turner: played a quintessential 2022 Adelaide inside mid game. Lots of tackles and clearances with hit and miss ball movement. Was a key part why Adelaide won by 9 goals.

Frampton: was one punch man throughout. As dour of a defensive performance that I've seen from Billy, but he looked good doing it.

Worrell: Not one to write home about for Josh, but played well when he was involves

Strachan: Rather similar to Worrell where he didn't seem to have a standout game, but did well enough to keep things ticking over.

Himmelberg: Standard frustrating performance from 'Berg. Some moments that remind you he could be a top player. Some moments that remind you why he isn't.

Sholl: Probably being unfairly canned on here. Moved the ball well, and had one horror moment defensively. Solid game all things considered.

Borlace: Poor. Just couldn't do much right all game. Picked the right time to have a down game though.

Newchurch: Couldn't get much going after the first five minutes. Became the decoy in the Wright and Pedlar show.

McAsey: I liked his first half. Attacked the ball well and was probably the pick of the tall forwards early. Faded badly after missing a set shot though.

Davis: was alright.
Harsh on Strachan. He was outstanding.

Still should be played ahead of McHenry and Murphy and Rowe

I thought the top up player with the craft beer brewers beard was pretty good, a serious set of wheels and a raking left boot. Thought Pedlars goal early in the second was a cracker as well.

We need to question the standard of umpiring though, it's just stupid.

Izzy McKenzie. Freo were interested in him in 2018 but he was too injury prone.

Glad to see him playing well for us, and would gladly welcome him back at Centrals any time.

It comes down to effort and intensity for Cook, talent will only get you so far.

Same can be said for Sholl, Newchurch, McAsey and to an extent, Himmelberg.
This is the reason some players don’t get promoted to the seniors regardless of their talent. They must meet cert standards before they come in, though a lot of people always seem to question selection without knowing the full story

If Pedlar, Cook, Taylor, Nankervis and even Gollant reach their potential, do we forgive Haggis for Jones, McHenry & McAsey?
Do Not Write-Off McAsey !

Did some good things today and is progressing ......gotta improve his reflex's and 2nd efforts though

Pedlar being Pedlar ......Turner showing why he was preferred over Carmichael .....Finals seperate the good from the ave players

Newchurch & Sholl showing why they haven't got AFL games ......really liking the way Nankervis thinks on a footy field, unflustered and makes good decisions in tight situations

Cook is a raw version of Stephenson but with less brain fades but still as soft.
Cook is a Steve Johnson clone .....he's learning about AFL standards ....like Johnson, will never be a tackling / contested beast .....however Steve had to be "programmed" as well, to apply AFL type pressure

give Cook time .....everyone's so impatient !

It's too bad our standards for senior players haven't included being any good.

Got to make those young'uns jump through hoops tho.

Harsh on Strachan. He was outstanding.
He was fine but outstanding is a stretch, Redlegs rucks especially Boyd and to a lesser extent Surman were more than competitive all day in the ruck contests.

Luke Pedlar tore my Norwood apart. Here is hoping he had finally broken the injury shackles.
Its one of those weird feelings, i could handle it watching the future AFL players play well, shame it wasnt a closer game. Now the Legs can win the next 2 and play a rematch in the Granny with any luck (After Adelaide hopefully beat the 19 player mob)

Thought Taylor and Pedlar had way more of the ball than they’ve ended up with, shows just how much class they have with each of their disposals. Pedlar was also good defensively today too.
Plus ....Pedlar was limited, by being stuck on a HFF ....tough role to play & get high possessions

I thought I saw him feel his hammy when he was playing on the wing in the last.
Been plying for a month and a half now with groin soreness..

They gave him last week off and he spent the week before that on the bench in the last quater cause of it but its clear ir still isnt good to go..

Still.. what else can we do.. ridiculously strict SAnFL qualifying rules.. means we’re stuck with top ups..

Although most of the top ups played well today.
