Almost prepared to admit that Clayton Oliver is the best player in the game right now.

His kicking and decision making tonight was sublime

I'm already there. He was sublime. Hard to find a weakness in his game. Putting it throught the big sticks is probably the only thing I can think of, but he does get enough shots at the goal.

May gets interviewed as the star. His opponent had 4 more legitimate touches than him. Daniher didn't kick goals but May wasn't super special either.

May is not there to rack up possession but to nullify full forwards and basically make opposition players sh.it themselves and lead wide to the boundary line. Mission accomplished. That he’s got a laser boot to go with it is icing on the cake. Absolute gun.

If I was in charge of the Roos recruitment strategy, my number two priority (after getting a new sharp shooting tall forward) would literally be to find the next Stephen May for this very reason.

You're spot on. Get him in as a medi-sub for a quarter? No damage done. But, a player goes down in the first 10 minutes and he has to run out a full game in a GF? Nup. Not worth the risk. It's bad luck for the guy, but from all accounts he isn't a great person. Karma I guess.

He has had some dominant VFL games this year, but he’s played as a mid in those games.

Even if a key mid went down injured and Jones came in as sub, I doubt he’d get mid minutes at AFL level anyway.

He’d be on flanks or the wing and a Sparrow, Neal-Bullen or Brayshaw would get the midfield minutes. They would probably be better off getting a specialist flanker type who can provide run as the sub.

On the “isn’t a great person”, I’ve got a mate who has had a lot to do with him. Apparently he’s a bit prickly and likes to have a whinge. He’s quite different to how he projects in the media.

Likewise, be very happy to see Demons go all the way. Just worry about relying on Fritsch and Brown for goals- not sure I see them as the kind to stand up in a GF.
Brown was very good tonight. He plays a role.

McDonald on the other hand.

May is, not may be, the most important player in the team imo. He monsters forwards, ****s with their minds.

Brown was bloody horrific tonight. 2 marks where he didn't have the wits to realise it was touched off the boot. He put his head down. Dumb. Cost us a 2 goal turn around. Then he missed a simple set shot in the last quarter which would've snuffed out the game, but no. He also dropped a simple mark on a lead surrounded by about 2 acres of space.

He is involved but he is probably one of the most uncoordinated blokes I've ever seen. He runs around like he's blindfolded trying to hit a pinata.

I'm so proud of us dees. I don't want to be arrogant but I honestly think we're the best team in it. I can't stand people saying 'It's Melbourne's flag to lose'. The competition is so tight. Only a week ago we were down by 44 points to the cats with 40 mins to go. I think if all the teams played a best of 5 then yes, I'd back us to beat anyone but when the winner is decided by who plays the best on the day and who gets the advantage of the umpires (let's be real here, their impact can be upwards of 8 goals at their worst) then it's still anyone's game.

This is a weird feeling. I hand on heart feel that melbourne have been absolutely abused by the umps for as much as 4-6 goals each match in the last 10 or so weeks. The worst was against the dogs. But is this what it feels like to be a dogs supporter after each match? lol. Just chalking up another win and ignoring the fact that the umps gave you 5 goals?

I hope the afl have turned their agenda from the dogs to melbourne winning the flag because I could get used to this umpiring.

Great win by the Dees and well deserved .They are easily the best side in the comp at the moment and that game could easily have been a 60 point thrashing . A showdown with Port is on the cards.
Other than goal kicking and a few defensive clangers in first quarter , happy with result . Tmac was not great but he had to have a decent player on him . We dont rely on a Riewold lynch 8 goals between them scenario . Teams run out of tall defenders when luke or max go forward and kossie and spargo get the crumbs . Fritsch is a hard match up , and trac does the dusty cameo in forward line . Clarry does ok too

Ffs give it a rest. Truly pathetic posting off the back of one your clubs biggest wins in years.

I have been on Bont being number 1 and Oliver being a clear number 2 and then a gap to the rest.

But the last few weeks I reckon Oliver is starting to go past Bont now his hurt factor is increasing. Unlike Bont, Oliver is consistent

But tbf I am biased

Ollie would prefer a premiership medal than brownlow

Yet when he is on he is a very accurate shot for goal and a great contested mark.

Stop talking shit about the umpires. It’s pathetic and it detracts from the game. Every single game day thread is laden with posts about ‘conspiracy this’ or ‘umpires that’. There actually is an umpiring thread, go there to bang on about it. Game day discussion is ruined by umpiring moaning. We get it. They aren’t great at times, but if people actually started focusing on the game and what was happening as opposed to feeling ‘robbed’ then you’d have much more insightful discussion.

I think that’s fair enough. The Bont can’t do it all himself but unless he literally carries the Bulldogs to a prelim Oliver would currently be the number 1. Hes stood up when it’s mattered. It’s all about finals performances.

Demons just don’t get penalized for holding the ball or clear throws and the Lions tacklers are not being rewarded.

Umps just seem to turn that blind eye when it suits them and every team has been on the wrong end of it but tonight the Lions are copping it with no lube.

Good example being set by a mod

Comments like this don't stir the pot at all
