It’s harsh in this instance to pay it though. It’s clear as day he’s just overjoyed and elated at the result that he’s smashed his foot through the ball. It’d be extremely harsh to effectively overturn a result when it’s clear to everyone watching what occurred (bar the commentary and Tiges players)
I get your point but it’s also “clear as day” a player is just frustrated by putting their hands out after a free against and that’s called dissent and pains 50 every week.

It’s funny one. Dammed if they do dammed if they don’t.

I think the biggest issue with the last free kick is that it looked and sounded like the umpire was asking the video umpire through the ear piece if it should be a 50m penalty.

Make the decision yourself. Don’t ask for assistance as that’s never the case at any other point in the game for a regular free kick.

Can’t pick and choose. It’s one rule for all or nothing.
It didn't look like that at all.

It looked like he was conferring with his fellow on-field umpire. Which he was.

As all three umpires do throughout the game: they communicate with each other to attempt to get to the correct decision.

  • Was play delayed?
No, as the siren had sounded and thus Prestia could not advance the play beyond taking a shot at goal. This is the key difference, it is why the fifty would be paid in general play but not after the final siren. Because play cannot be advanced, his only option is a shot at goal. In general play, Prestia could've kicked inboard, or i50 - or anything actually.
  • Did Warner act in an unsportsmanlike manner?
Nope, he kicked the ball into the crowd in the heat of the moment in celebration of a tightly contested win in front of a home crowd.

Not to mention it'd be the silliest fifty we've ever seen paid - we complain about the game being over-officiated yet I see more nuffs on here campaigning for the fifty than I see people supporting the non-decision.
Prestia could have ripped off a huge torp to an empty goal square

50m every time, umps were wrong

so you’re saying if someone boots away the ball after an Out on the full, it CANNOT be 50? (Since the clock is stopped so there is no delay to the game)

Different part of the rules.

50s are awarded for time wasting or impeding play.

You can be pinged 50m for time wasting if you dont give the ball back on the full, that is what people are arguing here, he booted it away after a free....but the siren had gone, there was no time wasting.

You can be pinged 50m for impeding inside the protected zone or encroaching over the mark.

Different parts of the rule.

No time wasting after siren, but you can still impede on the play.

Correct call on this occassion.
Good summary. Time wasting vs impeding.

The game is in serious trouble if we're talking about dubious free kicks after a great game.

As usual, the umpires make it about themselves!

Just watched the replay... whistle went before the siren so there was a free, ball kicked away was 50m, simple as that, no room for leniency

Poor umpiring
it is extraordinary, you couldn't get a clearer 50MP

gifted the Swans 4 points

what is going on in the AFL?

lol that umpire just didn't have the bottle

one of the clearest 50 metre penalties you will ever see, should have been Presti shooting for goal
It was paid by the umpire not officiating the area and the player wouldn't have heard it. Was never 50.
