he is a professional athlete who knew his team would be pushing into the finals at this point. For a start he should know how babies are made and potentially hold off during January.

also - schedule a c-section ffs.

Ooof …. Imagine telling a woman how she should give birth!

she married a professional athlete who has his important time of the year in September/October. If your due date is around this time period then thats the price of marrying an athlete. Irresponsible behaviour from Joe but the wife should also understand the situation.

This is perhaps the worst take I've ever seen on BigFooty – quite the feat.

Yeah nah, this aint it.

I don't have kids, and I still think its a stupid take. Its obviously up to the individual player, no one else, and their choice should be respected.

Of all the hills to die on, Belnakor choose this one......

people are acting like it was out of his control. it wasn't. He made the choice to start a family with a due date right in the middle of the finals which is how he earns a crust. You never begrudge people to have a family but he has obligations and he should have planned better.

and past experience had told him that winning finals was not part of his world in which case the timing would have been perfect ;)

Easy decision for Joe. More to life than football and this is one of those amazing joys that you can’t miss.

Sucks for us but what can you do. We were already pretty big underdogs anyway, so nothing changes and honestly this game will be won in the middle and in the mindset of the team. Not if our key forward kicks a bag.

Heading in tonight and still massively pumped. First final in Melbourne since 2009, cannot wait.

In one of his interviews David Barham wanted to know what Geelong was doing to be so successful for so long. Decisions like the one that Brisbane have taken with Daniher are the perfect example of the actions that lead to sustained success.

“Destination clubs” are no longer simply those that have a history of success. Clubs that reduce the need for players to choose between club and family are seeing greater player commitment both on and off the field.

The decision goes beyond tonight’s game.

Regards

S. Pete

Maybe get your facts right. Baby wasn't due until Oct, so if his partner has gone into labor now, that's 3-7 weeks early. Having been in similar situation, you drop everything to be there. Football is just a game.

AFL.com.au having a sly crack at Joe's lack of family planning here I think.

This is an awful take.

1) birth is hugely dangerous. Women and babies still both die in birth.

2) conceiving can be hugely difficult for some couples, thus holding off for a month isn’t a great idea for some

3) She could be premature

4) Medical decisions are to be made on the grounds of maternal and baby health, never to schedule around a footy game

"Nah man, they should just shove it back in there and wait until a more appropriate time" - Belnakor, probably

c-section is perfectly safe, potentially better than classic delivery
Joe isn't 40. Plenty of time.

everything else is down to planning. Get her pregnant in july not Jan.

Just caught up with the news that Daniher has pulled out, should have pulled out 9 months ago.

Stupid timing to be letting go knowing your team will be playing finals.

Dees are certainties now.
