Biggest ever comeback in a grand final at 3/4 is 24 points in 1984. They’d want to be a bit closer I’d reckon.
Maybe, but it's all mental. They'll both be knackered at that stage with the heat, in this scenario.
The crowd starts "Coooollingwoood, Coooollingwoood", get a quick goal or two, and tired Lions could try and save it, which won't end well if 20 points up with 15 minutes to go...

My god this fake-arse modesty from Collingwood supporters is sicking.

"Well done Brisbane, you're so good, great even, best team ever and will only get better, only four points in it, will be flag favourites next year, so close!!!"

Brisbane were pathetic. Their Brownlow medallist didn't turn up until the last quarter, number 1 pick barely sniffed the ball for an entire half and didn't even touch the ball in the last. Eric Hipwoods ended up with negative ranking points and he was on the ground the whole game. If he was my child I would have disowned him. What a disgraceful human being.

Fair play to Collingwood, deserved premiers for being the least s**t side in it etc. but for God's sake stop blowing smoke up Brisbane's arse. What is it now? Five Top 4 finishes in a row and the best they've come is losing a grand final? The club should feel ashamed and their supporters should be embarrassed.

And yes I'm well aware my team are a bunch of bed-wetting, pant-shitting fairies as well. The fact we lost two finals by a combined total of less than 10 points, including to the reigning premier, with that absolutely atrocious forward-line is an indictment on the rest of the competition.

Enjoy it Pies fans!
If it makes you feel better, we lost two finals last year by less than 10 points also.
And look at how we have grown, improved and believed we could do it.

You could be us next year, if you keep believing.

Oh wait, hang on. We lost the two games by under 10 points (like you) but I forgot that we won a final last year also and didn't go straights sets.

My bad, continue your melt, I get it now.;)

Fagan was very gracious in defeat, very refreshing from the Chris Scott types

My memory is not so good and my mathematics even worse, but I am fairly sure since our collective hearts were broken in 2018 that our teams are one premiership apiece.

Given all of the assistance your team has received since then- NGA players (what happened to those?), a generational seagull via Free Agency, salary cap relief from the AFL, fixturing advantages etc it is actually incredible it took you so long to return to premiership glory. And it still took other teams like Brisbane, Carlton and my own to fall over themselves in order for you to achieve it.

But I am not here to devalue your premiership, it was earned (sort of), and I am very happy for you and your fellow supporters.

Did anyone notice that after the Lions took the lead, the Pies infringed the 6-6-6 rule at the next centre bounce, which meant the ball was thrown up instead of bounced? The reduced height doesn't allow much of a jump, which favoured Cox and allowed him to get the tap down to Daicos and led to a very quick goal.

I'm not complaining at all, it's absolutely genius coaching by Fly if it was intentional. Would love to see someone put the question to him and find out (honestly the rules should probably be changed, though I've long been of the opinion that only the first ball up of the game should be bounced, or maybe the first of each quarter, just to reduce to skill-load on umpires).

Set play or nay?

I posted during the game. I swear it has happened before in close finish matches they have been in. Get rid of the warning, everyone knows the rules by now, it should be a free kick for deliberate time wasting.

Indeed. How dare posters show respect for the opposition?
If you want to be respectful, perhaps you could start by being honest. Their fans do not deserve to be patronised and lied to.

The final centre ball up of the season - the one following Daniher’s goal, with 1:40 left in a Grand Final and less than a goal in it = was a 6-6-6 infringement by Brisbane.
Free Kick Pies by your reckoning?

Someone's not dealing very well with consecutive straight sets exit.
You are struggling to accept the 2023 premiership was a result of Brisbane choking, despite the advantages you already received. But it's ok, you were still the best team on the day, there's no reason to stop the celebrations. You have nothing to feel guilty about.

Indeed. Even better that it counts as it was played at the home of football, unlike some other recent Grand Finals.

I agree, it is very fortunate that you played the grand final at your home ground, which happens to be a venue your opponent has struggled on.

However there is no need to denigrate Melbourne’s recent premiership. We were very clearly the best side in the competition that year. We did not rely on luck, acts of violence, umpire incompetence or fixturing inequalities.

If they want to win the flag then they have to do it at the MCG though.
This can't play the MCG mantra is rubbish. They could have very easily have won this year. When it is only 4 points it boils down to luck on the day. Something Carlton fans should be well aware of.

I do wish they request to play us at the MCG rather than Marvel next year, it would help both teams.

If they can get young Ashcroft back fit and playing like he did this year, and with the hurt of this years loss fresh in their minds they will be extremely hard to beat come GF day next year.

No luck required, apart from the fact your were a Max Gawn kick after the siren away from a 4th placed finish at the end of the home and away season...

Fixturing inequalities? Apparently the Magpies had the hardest draw this season, yet still finished a game and percentage clear on top (despite dropping a few meaningless games late in the season).

Don't worry, a lot of experts are picking Melbourne to rebound in 2024. Unfortunately these are the same experts who were saying Melbourne were the form team of the competition leading into the final series, and should have been flag favourites...

I didn’t read this sorry.

A man down in the first quarter, Frampton up forward, Nick Daicos injury, doubtful umpire calls to swing momentum in the oppositions favour, mother nature putting on 30 odd degrees for the Lions, the Lions getting an armchair ride through the finals with gutless opposition... but the boys did it. What a memorable flag this one is

Exactly!

Our road to the GF was the toughest by far. Melbourne and GWS threw the kitchen sink at us while Brisbane had soft kills. How pathetic was Port Adelaide in this finals series, dead set pretenders and Carlton played the PF with no gas in the tank and basically raised the white flag after qtr time.

We had the tough road and I think it hardened us up for that GF. The Lions were not prepared for our relentless team defense and it showed in their desire to win the midfield battle and deliver scoring opportunities to their always dangerous forwards. Brisbane never go 21-30 scoring shots against.

Stop tripping the match was only close because of Collingwood missing so many shots on Goals. Straight kicking Collingwood wins GF by 4-5 Goals.

Agree. Brisbane were shameful.

To all the critics trying to detract from the the win, by focusing on the free - please reflect of the the reality.
Namely, Coll we’re in control for the entire day, had 9 more scoring shots, out coached BNE, and nullified their stars.
Coll we’re the better team, as all sensible neutrals attest.
Your pettiness hides your clear lack of football knowledge, and insight.

And BTW Coll also won expected score!!!!!
Spot on!!

The official expected score as agreed to by myself and a few of my esteemed Collingwood mates over a few brewskis was as follows:

Mighty Magpies - 30.0.180
Fitzroy Bears - 0.21.21

So, we should have won by 159 points really if things went as EXPECTED!! ;)

But, of coarse those pesky umpires put a stop to that!!
