The fact the Blues are taking the risk of playing Docherty shows how desperate the Blues really are. If the Blues were confident, Docherty doesn’t play. They would save the risk for the semi/prelim. Consistency in the 23 is all so important heading into a finals campaign. Which they have had none of.

Lions form, all but the last 3 4th quarters, has been best in the comp. My theory is the Lions were fatigued and in need of a week off after the 9 game winning stretch. They’ve had a much needed week off. They will be fresh and firing at the Gabba on Saturday, welcoming back Payne and Starcevic.

I was proud of the boys performance on grand final day last year. We are too experienced in finals now, to give this one up. Lions with the win by 45pts
Well there’s been zero consistency with the Blues team for months.

If by some miracle the Blues get to a prelim for example and Doch holds up, that’s two games into him of match fitness.

Think it would be far crazier to play someone like him first up in a prelim if they got there.

As serviceable as some of the younger guys were the last two weeks, they played the Eagles who were flat out pathetic in that game and the Saints who weren’t too flash either but went up against a Blues team with zero forwards capable of kicking a winning score. Give me Docherty over a guy like Binns.

He's a 'test'. I definitely wouldn't be banking on it if he's rolling around with this at training

Dang, looking at that ankle monitor Charlie is going to be out with 'court ordered restrictions on his movement'. Hate to see it for the H&A specialist.

So many experts in here there must be a lot of posters who have done an ACL and are now giving advice about how professional athletes should rehabilitate. Gotta laugh

So Doc confirmed and 7 more players are a test.
Curnow, McKay, Gov, TDK, Martin, Cerra and Williams.
Players who are unavailable, but would all be in consideration for best 23: Boyd, Fogarty, Cottrell, Cuningham, Marchbank, Silvagni.

Personally, from the list of tests, I'd be leaving out Martin and Cerra.

Unless he only lasts 5 minutes.
And if Curnow plays, that’s 2 players down in a final.

Lions by 70 points. 52 if they decide to put the cue back in the rack for the next final.

In all fairness, a Preliminary Final is a slightly more important game than Round 0...
The point is old sock, that we can all reach back to previous games that present our decrepit one-eyed points perfectly - or we can be somewhat balanced - yes Charlie kicked one goal in the prelim, he then followed up with 4 in a 20 minute block that won Carlton the game from 46 points down - in our most recent game.

Who knows if he’ll even play in the game - a test in any case.

Our Brissy friends are starting to unravel in this unseasonably warm northern heat!

Heat wave is over, now back to normal spring weather in Brisbane. 28 on Sat though so a tad warm for those coming up from the frosty south. For us it's a cool change!

A lot of smoke and shadows behind the windows from the old blues baggs trying to confuse us as to who will and won't be picked.

How can this be the FIRST elimination final when the FIRST elimination final is being played on Friday night and this match is the last match of the first week of the finals ?
It is to do with ladder position.
The AFL have to call these games something each year without knowing who will end up in each position.
5th v 8th is always the first EF
6th v 7th is the 2nd EF

The AFL don't necessarily play then in this order.
They look at lots of things when deciding on who plays when and where.
They take into consideration crowd numbers, TV rating numbers, likely winners and backup time for the following round.

I also noticed the Qualifying final 2 (Thrs) is being played before Qualifying final 1 (Sat).
