Don't think Moore is going to get enough credit for his game.

To be able to produce that effort in 30 degree heat with everyone else cramping after glandular fever is nothing short of extraordinary.

Shame his other teammates couldn't follow suit.

Ben McKay ! Cheers norf ! Goldy as the steak knives. Mmmmm.

Yeah the Saints have been guilty of that plenty of times, outplaying the opposition in general play but not making it count on the scoreboard.

Frustrating to watch as a supporter.

It's the worst way to lose IMO. Maybe a kick after the siren is worse but at least with that it's out of your control.

We should have won this game easily with the opportunities we had. Essendon couldn't miss. Fair play to them. Their conversion was awesome today. Even the difficult shots 50m out they nailed.

Growing up I perceived that the bombers had an annoying tradition of being accurate (against the Eagles anyway). Still get those chills when they mostly kick straight and haven’t been completely put away yet, and even some of the defeats are rendered annoyingly honourable.

17.5 defeat 11.17, been there, feel you

One thing I'd like to point out though is that Essendon dominated centre clearances. When Hawthorn scored, Essendon immediately replied.

But Hawthorn had the better game for 3 quarters so I can see where the frustration comes from.

Will take the win given we were missing our 3 best players plus hobbs and shiel not quite ready yet and reid injured before half time. Hopefully we dont have so many players fumbly and down on form next week. Good cobweb duster

Defensively our midfield was inept today. Just kept letting you guys walk out of the middle.

I think once we get into the swing of things we will cause teams sone issues. You guys probably match up better than anybody to us.
Kick straight and the Bombres were dead and buried by half time. OTH defensively the Hawks were a sieve and made it easier for more composed shots on goal.

A simplistic way of thinking. If one of those behinds was a goal, it would have gone back to the centre, an area we dominated, the margin may have been bigger

Problem with this thinking is that Hawthorn won the first possession from centre bounces, but didn’t win the clearances.
It’s why Reeves ended with a higher amount of Hits to advantage, yet we lost the centre bounce clearances.

Hawks fumbled, stumbled or lost the ball numerous times in the middle, but does it happen every time if they were to turn every one of those points into a goal? Probably not.
