Also fairly certain this the second game for the year we won the differential. The other being Richmond
nah we lost the differential this game as well but because there was a couple of controversial calls it means we've been kissed on the dick by the umpires all season of course

Those whining that we got a few 50/50s in a row our way in the 3rd quarter have forgotten that, after Chris Scott's comments on the Port game, every 50/50 decision went against us for the next month. We were due for a lucky break and, frankly, we're owed a lot more.

wonder where all these white knights were when we lost to GWS by 4 points getting absolutely reemed in every 50/50 call? At least that game you could argue since it was 4 points and not 45 lol

Another classic geelong game.
Tight first quarter, umpires pay some "interesting" calls, geelong get a run on after the tap on the back from the umps, whilst it rattles the opponent
Bombers rattled themselves by only kicking 9 goals from about 60 inside 50’s. They had their chances. They still won the overall free kick count as well. Cats shouldn’t have been that close at half time. 45 point loss so unsure how a few free kicks equals that much, if the cats won by 2 goals then complaints could be justified probably. All in all the bombers shit the bed against a cats team which are average at best atm, will be interesting next week to see how cats back up against probably one of the in form teams in the comp.

I reckon the Bombers have been on the wrong end of two of the worst umpiring displays I’ve ever watched.

Last night and 2019 Anzac Day. Not 1 or 2 key decisions but several absolute howlers.

Let's not pretend that umpiring does not impact player mindset.
Geelong have mastered being able to react when things go their way. Their club sports psychologist is a genius.

Bombers got a couple of tough calls but cats comfortably the better team in the second half.
A couple?

Menzie rushed behind

Draper non free

Ridley holding the ball

Stewart non holding the ball

Bowes non holding the ball

Cameron kicking a goal standing in the protected area.

They basically all happened in a 15 minute period and resulted in Geelong goals or should have been Essendon shots at goal inside 50.

Momentum is the biggest thing in Football and Geelong got it handed to them on a plate in what was before that a genuine 50/50 contest.

Yeah, only the Draper and Stewart ones were actually wrong though.
There is no way the Ridley holding the ball call was correct, has zero prior.
Cameron should not be allowed to stand in the protected zone and receive a handball.
The Bowes one is paid more often than not.
The Menzie one no one has any idea
What the rule is, they literally just had one in the Saints game that was worse and not paid.

If that was Jack Henry or Zach Guthrie rushing it through in identical circumstances everyone would want it paid and you know it.

The AFL umpiring standards are and have been very poor this year, and seems to get worse week by week with no consistency in the game and across the weekend.

The prior rule changes week to week. The dangerous tackle has also made a mess of it as well.

Sometimes you get a night where some frees work out and sometimes you don’t. It’s all a lottery and until the AFL accept it’s a problem which they won’t, nothing will change.

Nope, it’d be like the other 99 times it happens a week, it’s a kick in and everyone moves on.

If it is the correct call then why is it not paid all the time? If it was then Menzie probably doesn’t do it, that’s the real issue here, it’s never paid and then all of a sudden it is and no one knows why.

lol- give it a spell. You didn’t stand up when it mattered against a team that has struggled for two months. Bombers are coming along but still a work in progress - top 8 but not top 4 material yet.

Of course we aren’t a top 4 team, no arguments from me there, you can’t deny that the umpires completely changed that game last night though, it went from a tight 50/50 contest to a 4 goal Geelong lead all off the back off poor umpiring decisions, yes Essendon could have stood up in the last quarter no doubt, but momentum is such a hard thing to wrestle back and we definitely aren’t there yet in that regard.
