Big thanks to St Kilda for giving us a good matchup in what turned out to be a dead rubber.

We were able to rest 10-12 of our blokes who just needed week or two more to tune the body for finals. Thankfully St Kilda showed up (unlike a few other cellar dwellars this weekend) and we were able to get some solid run into guys like Saad and Fantasia returning from injury, give a taste of the big time to bunch of young guys like Moir, Lord and Binns (would have been a shame for their only hitout for the year to be last week's flop against WC), and get a full 100 minute test without the stakes being too high.

We even got to trial a few blokes out of position too - and ok, Kemp might not be the guy you want kicking for your life at the end of a close game, and Kennedy probably isn't our backup ruck but it only adds options.

Must have been tough for Dow and Stocker though... they probably thought their days of providing scratch match fodder to Cripps and Walsh, then heading off for a cheap flight to Bali in the last week of August were behind them. Same with Ross Lyon too - if only he had actually bothered to put some effort into his application he might be coaching a finals team now. Oh well, that's life i guess. I did miss the days of St Kilda being a dumping ground for players and coaches deemed not to be up to it at Carlton, so it is nice to return to that as well...

Did you take a course in sore losing, or is it just a gift?

Sore losing? We're on top of the world right now... or at least in the hemisphere who gets to keep playing footy in September...

Might have lost the battle, but we won the war.

But seriously, thanks for giving us a good tune-up before finals.
