It would never happen, but if you can throw midfielders onto forward flanks in the line up, you can easily place Cameron on a wing.

Exactly. I really hope that IF (I’d rather just be 10 goals up) we get to a stage in a final where we need to break the game open, they throw him and danger into some sort of midfield combination together because In fairly short bursts up the ground he’s been a beast.

AA team is named tonight - how many of our five nominees do we think will make it?

I'd say Stewart, Cameron and Stengle are locks.

Seems Hawkins and Lynch are fighting for one spot with Cameron and Curnow the other two KPFs in the team.

I'd be disappointed if Lynch makes it over Hawk - he kicked one more goal while Hawkins is #1 in the league for score involvements (Lynch is #43) and #2 in the league for goal assists (Lynch not in the top 50), not to mention his forward 50 ruck work. Aside from the one extra goal the only other key stat Lynch beats him in is contested marks (Lynch #1 in comp and Hawkins #8).

Am unsure re Blicavs but would love to see him sneak a bench spot.

Cameron Hawkins and Blicavs should be the locks.

Stewart is the best defender in the comp but he missed too many games and since his return while he’s still been excellent, he hasn’t been dominant. I would find it hard to make a case for him.

Stengle has been absolutely amazing but his numbers drop away from amazing to just decent against the good sides so I wouldn’t have an issue with him missing out.

Blicavs is easily the best multi-role player in the competition and it’s not close. Does literally everything asked of him and he should be the first player picked for the bench.

Cameron is the most dynamic ‘tall’ forward in the comp and walks in. He kicks goals, sets them up, gets up the ground and wins contested ball and often does the freakish.

Tom Hawkins is the best all round forward in the comp this season as he has been for a number of seasons.

He’s not kicked goals as regularly as Lynch or taken contested marks: he hasn’t had to because he’s still taken more marks inside 50 contested or not, still kicked the equal second most goals in the comp, set up the most by a mile of any key forward, and imposed himself on the game in heaps more ways than his rival bug forwards.

I can’t see how any side doesn’t have him in it.

Cameron, Hawkins & Blicavs should be the locks

Stewart has done well to make the squad, but don't feel like his season is AA worthy when considered as a whole

It would be good to see Stengle make it, though he seems he has the most competition

Agree about Stewart

Change the name Tom Stewart to a less promoted defender in the league, and I'm not sure if they make the AA squad based on their complete season

A bit of the Stewart discussion feels like it's more reputational based rather than form based on what we've across this season

Perfectly said. I hope Stengle sneaks a spot under the “great story” criterion.

Stewart is 100% a lock. He had 10 or so games where he was 50% better than the rest of the league in his position.

Compare him to some of the mods who'll make the side.

Cripps - had an ordinary 6 game period in the middle of the season

Neale - couldn't shake a tag for a quarter of the season.

Bontempelli - had 6 or so very average games.

I could go on.

Steven May who is predicted to make the side didn't have a great deal of consistency.

He missed 4 weeks, plus a game of being subbed out after a quarter.

If you're missing 5 weeks of the season, then the games you do play have to be exceptional.

I'd suggest that of all the defenders picked in the squad, Stewart is the only one who has had clear multiple BOGs this season.

v Freo - 40 possessions, 14 marks, 6 inside 50s.
v Crows - 40 possessions, 16 marks, 10 rebound 50s.
v Tigers - 29 possessions, 6 marks including the match winning one.

Despite missing five games, his best games this season have been arguably the best games of his career. Simply has to make the team.

Missed 5 total games - 4 due to suspension & late withdrawl from the Brisbane game due to illness

Then subbed out early against the Bulldogs due to concussion, bringing it to essentially 6 games

If cats_09 or Daz get in the side ahead of Stewart, I'm putting in a complaint.

Suffering a bit from Danger syndrome of past where his best games have been so good that his consistently great games (with just the odd quiet one) are actually now being underrated. This hasn't been his best ever year but he'd be a worthy addition to the side.

Jeremy Cameron finished in 7th in the coaches votes with 76 votes only behind midfielders, however the bigger surprise is Blicavs coming in at 10th place with 60 votes. He polled 17 in the last 2 weeks so that is some nice form going into finals.

Newcombe young player of the year in front of DeKoning…..pleeeease.

?

Not sure the issue - DeKoning wasn't eligible:

The AFL Coaches Association Best Young Player Award is presented in recognition of the player based on performances in his first two seasons of AFL Football and is determined by the weekly votes of the AFL coaches.

They said he was third.

Possession counting for a kick out taker, that’s a no from me.
