I gotta be honest here... I never read that. It fades in to non-existence for me.
ikr. Although you can opt out of the regular ones in your preferences if they're annoying, or dismiss them one at a time using the x in the top right corner.

e.g. I use the draft/trade one to get to the frequently used threads during the off-season a fair bit, so I leave that one there and dismiss the rest 😝

It's like a lot of things you sort of have to curate your experience, unwatch threads you don't follow and turn off notifications for the ones you only want in the watched threads without clogging up the notifications. Forums aren't as smart as social media in showing you only stuff you'll like, but it's also a good thing I think as it means I don't have an algorithm hiding things that it doesn't know I like, or things I dislike but want to read anyway for balance. 🤷‍♀️

By relative standards though the one for the phantom draft is kinda huge and hard to miss. Chief made the font almost double the usual one used for notices

People here seem to have cooled on Tsatas due to his defensive limitations.

Question: Is the defensive side of the game something that can be developed at AFL level with much success? Houli is an example player who comes to mind who was very limited defensively initially, but became better in this regard after arriving at Richmond. Not sure how common this is though. Also it has got to be said Richmond had a way better midfield which made the job of the defenders in their team a bit easier, notwithstanding they had some very good players.

Or, is it just a case that people believe our culture is not strong enough to support such a transition into a more defensively minded mid?

Like I said they may * it up but they all have long term plans. It is the plan that ends up being wrong and not the fact they plan draft to draft.
Guess its hard to tell if the current status is.a result of poor planning or poor execution
Shiel, at the price, was puzzling with parish, mcgrath and merrett on the list.
Reid when we had eyre and brand as freebies too. Also matching on brand once we took reid.

Given that Brand is delisted and Eyre still hasn’t got a contract, I don’t think it’s the best example.

No way im taking George at 13
The guy was clearly around that mark preinjury. Petracca-esque build and skillset, he’s been great since his acl. He’s pretty much perfect for us style wise.

Looks bad to us as we rate variety in the midfield. Obviously previously it was not as high a priority.

You can develop it but they are never the strongest link in the chain so you need good defensive players around them. Houli for example had a lot of good role players around him so he was allowed to use the freedom as the bloke who got on the end of the chain and delivered the footy.
Tsatas will learn some defense . As it goes along he will pressure more but for him to be a success with us he would need to replace one of Shiel or Parish and we would still need to bring in a few more defensive minded players and also more leaders. One reason we have been very poor defensively is we have lacked the leaders to drive it on field and within the playing group. As a captain Heppell has not always been a great defensive player either. Did his job when he was at half back but as his career went on it was not his strong point.

Reports are suggesting we are strong on Mattaes Phillipou. His style of play would be perfect for the balance of our list. If he turned out to be the next Bontempelli/Fyfe then we have struck gold. Chris Doerre (Knightmare) rates him as the second best player in the draft.
Is this the same Chris Doerre that said Marty Gleeson was the best player in his draft?

It is.
But I do like Phillipou . Good leader and very good player. Plays midfield and forward. He would be right in the conversation with Wardlaw / Tsatas / Humphrey.

This. We have no culture.

It would be a fun activity they said

You broke my heart.

Just dont think were in a position to take a risk that early on a guy coming off an ACL and also think there is such a strong top 13 excluding Ashcroft

Id rather us target a pick at the same range for next year

I don’t see a lot in the top 13 having a better scope than him. I think I’d take only 5 players (Wardlaw, Sheezel, Humphrey, Phillipou, Cadman) before him.

While he clearly wasn’t, we ****ed Marty’s development something shocking. Was such a quality winger at vfl level. His delivery and vision inside 50 was a delight. Don’t think we even tried him there at AFL level. He’d glide across the turf, never should have been a back pocket or third tall hybrid.

George at 6?

I do like your saying what you think and opinion is different to the herd though

You must have liked what you saw and i have to admit hes one i cant comment on as ive never watched. Just rather take a player not off an ACL with a top 13 pick in our position. Think top sides can certainly take the risk earlier as likely wouldve struggled early for a game anyway. Whereas we need our top 13 picks who arent 200cm playing plenty of footy year 1
Nowhere near it
Before Ross being hired i think Gold Coast could well have finished ahead. Still think eagles could be ok and finish higher.

Crows, Hawks, North, GWS are terrible though. We arent much better

Lyon will keep the saints in the middle road next year still cant see them top 10 though
