Coach AFL investigation into Chris Scott

Personally don’t like it. May be completely above board but it brings unnecessary scrutiny and innuendo to both Scott and the club. The optics are terrible.

Fail to see also how he has time to take on a job of any significance? An AFL coaching job should be a full time position.

Anyway, know most won’t agree.
I don't like it because I thought being an AFL coach would be a full time job.

I assume we've taken the Republican party approach to the judiciary then?
Of course. And that's why a Trump victory next week would only be further evidence of the malevolent influence the Geelong Football Club exerts over every principality and power of this world.

Oh man, not yet, leave me in peace at the idea that the collapse of western power is postponed another 4 years.

I agree with all of this, but my God has the AFL screwed up the approval of it.

I mean, my God, we lost Greg Williams to Sydney all because we couldn't stump up an extra $5000.

This has, and always WILL, stupefy me. Mind = still blown.

The club was nearly insolvent back then
Yep, exactly. People talk about the difference between $45k and $50k as though the issue was our penny-pinching greed, but the reality is that if you don't have the money, you just don't have the money.

The whole of the VFL was in big, big trouble between the mid-80s and the mid-90s, when things started to really stabilise. In 1985, all VFL clubs bar Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn were actually insolvent. The TV licence money was so low that the ABC could afford it in 1987. If it weren't for Brisbane and West Coast paying for their licences to enter the comp in '87, the whole thing would have probably gone under.

It probably was insolvent. When you have to go to a sponsor and get your sponsor to pay the players wages I think you're stuffed. But hey, we kept Ablett :)
Yeah. I have the haziest memories of being a Cats fan back in them days but I've read of the Greg Williams/Bernard Toohey/Tommy Hafey Sydney Three-Step and I'm always thinking "oh man, what IF..."

But yeah, if the club couldn't even afford a shit-bucket to eat sawdust from back then I guess it's fair enough that we couldn't part with the extra four grand.

Perhaps in an alternative world, Geelong keeps Toohey, Williams and Hafey, and goes bankrupt in 1986.

Apparently Scott said this had been ticked off by the AFL, but with the understanding that I've not stayed up to date on all this......has that claim that the been independently verified by anyone else?

Just not seen any other confirmation is all, but once again I stress I've not stayed across all this of late.

At the very least they would had left KP IMO
I reckon that would have been the death of the GFC.

Moving away from Fitzroy to the southside really, really hurt Fitzroy FC. Brisbane struggled for any kind of fandom till they actually started playing in Brisbane.

Geelong, 75 minutes outside of Geelong, would die.
