Good to see they left Murdoch in the side. His speed and ball use has been important lately

Be interesting to see how he goes.

If Smedts and Varcoe don't make it back in time for the finals he could well hold his spot with another good game here.

While I don't agree with Vardy's selection, it's great to see him recovered from such a serious injury and I hope he gets through the game unscathed.

I don't think Vardy is any more likely to get injured in the seniors.

If Stephenson is not fit I can see the case for playing him because he is a better ruck option than Walker.

If Stephenson is fit I think they would be silly to leave him out.

Well Orren is fit by the sounds of the 2's team named for Sunday.

vardy in!

i dont like it at all, but i will defer to the MC and chris scott on this one.

best of luck to the guy, and regardless of my thoughts on the merits of his inclusion, it is great to see him back!

Stephenson in Twos aswell so Vardy chosen over him
Makes sense in that orren gets a good run, plus n extra day while Vards gets to show us exactly what he can add to our senior side prior to finals. and if we cop an injury early at least Vards can go to the square and not slow us down too much. Think we can really stretch them for height, we've just gotta get our hands on :footy: first..

Great choice to play Vardy IMO. There is no doubt ruck is our weakess department. Playing Vardy will allow the match committee to know exactly where he is at. If he shows great form, it will strengthen our side and is an added bonus in September. If he fails, we have Orren in the background. Like with the Varcoe gamble last week, if he breaks down, its better in a meaningless H&A game rather than a final.

unless the added intensity causes an incredibly serious break down...

unlikely i know, and the medical staff know what they are doing. looking forward to seeing him back.

Yes, I feared they would do this. The MC really love Vardy, that much is obvious. Bodes well for the future but the finals, I am not so sure.

At least they are being consisent, always promoting the youth player over the fringe player they don't see a future beyond this year.

Much better to find out with a game under his belt, rather than being thrown straight into the fire.

Also, it will be interesting if Vardy plays 1st or 2nd ruck.

2nd ruck.

West is definitely our no1 ruckman.

Vardy will go forward pocket and relieve in the ruck when West needs a breather, as Walker was doing (well he was trying to do).

They love Vardy so I expected it too.

Think it's the wrong call but hope I'm wrong, I would love to be wrong if it means the best outcome for us in September.:thumbsu:

Yep and although it makes me a bit nervous, have to admire their attitude 'won't die wondering' and such. Scott is fearless really, but also very smart so we'll see who runs out and how etc. and trust them.

Think Vardy gets a go because we know pretty much what to expect with Orren and Walker and they want to give Vardy the chance to show what he can do. If he has a blinder then he plays finals otherwise back to West solo or a West/Orren combo for the first final depending on the opponent.

I have a feeling Chris Scott will let Vardy ruck the majority of the time and then sub him off at 3 quarter time. He will want to know if Vardy will have the fitness to do the require rucking in the finals.

This it. We have to assess our options so we can make the best one whatever that might be.

has been a terrific battler.
Tried for a long time breaking into the side, finally got his shot in 2009 but injury and a change of game style have hurt him.
Had he been drafted to almost any other side apart from this awesome team, he'd be a seriously top-flight player.

Would make a valuable sub in a final as he's extremely clever, seems to find the footy by himself on numerous occasions and has a great eye for goal.
Is also exceptional through the core as he loves a wet track when the ball is heavy where he uses that asset to his advantage.
Like him a lot and good around the club, but have to go with the youngsters. Remember him saying he was the happiest 22nd picked. Knew where he stood and has medallions-no complaints I imagine. Good luck to him.

worried about vardy and hope he gets through the game. god we've had a ban run of bringing players back from long term injuries this year. there's a potential big up-side though if it comes off

Menzel?

I'm all for the 'do what's best for the future' path so I'm happy to see Vardy play. If he breaks down or puts in an absolute shocker, we've always got Orren waiting in the wings. Vardy brings the same energy and mobility as Walker with much better ruck work and a bigger body.

Our side's looking a lot stronger now, with Reid out and LRT and Bolton still a bit iffy I like our chances.
