I know harry has been good on the wing, but with no Shaw and no Toovey he must play back. We need someone who will win one on one and create that run, Harry will provide that. If we decide to keep him on the wing, its Russell or Williams.... leaning towards Williams due to leg speed against the Geelong smalls.

Shaw didn't get remotely near those nuts. Challenge and win.

Drop Blair for Ball, Macaffer for Williams.

Needs to be dropped to the VFL for being such an idiot when we play teams like GC and GWS in a few weeks.. sadly we have to have him in against sydney

Don't think GC is such an easybeat team anymore.

Any team not treating them with respect is risking a nasty surprise.

I'm pretty livid about losing Heater but frankly I'd have to admit that given the same set of circumstances I'd never have missed and it would never have been the love tap that Heater delivered.

Back OT. If we did happen to lose Lynch then I believe we would have to consider bringing in Hudson or Witts to back up Jolly. Macaffer must play. We need to negate Stevie J and I can't think of anyone else who would stand a chance. I would love to see Ball back but suspect if he gets in it will be as the sub. That may not prove to be all that bad anyway with JT going reasonably well as the extractor. I couldn't see a place for Russell over Marley Williams with Geelong's damaging smalls so I'd definitely bring in Marley and also Goldsack for the flexibility he gives us. I'm not even going to attempt to name the outs other than Heater. I guess I'd have to concede that Elliott might be in the gun but I think he was given a bit of an unfamiliar role on Saturday so I'm not convinced he deserves to be dropped on the strength of that when he has provided plenty over the previous few weeks.

I'd like to see Mooney played a full if fit, he was quite good despite getting hurt and playing as the sub. He adds a bit of pace and x factor which we are really lacking at the moment. Also we need Tyson 'The Difference' Goldsack back to stretch their talls or to help out in defense.

Changes I'd make this week:

In:
Ball - 2 games under belt and looked polished in both games. he's ready so just get him in as a matter of urgency
Didak - let's stop talking about him and just play him FFS. We desperately need his precise kicking and ball winning abilities. At least play him as the sub.
Hudson - Bucks needs to make the hard call on Jolly and accept he is no longer worthy of a walk up start as the number 1 ruckman given the preformances of Hudson this year. When Hudson is 100% he needs to be picked. Jolly to relieve Hudson when he needs a rest. No time for sentiment.
Johnson - if fit needs to replace Clarke as a matter of urgency

Out:
Kennedy - will be a player but has to make way for the senior guns like Ball
Clarke - regardless of his injury he looked so slow against Freo and is just not up to it.
Shaw - should get another week from the club for his ongoing petulant behaviour. He's costing us at least 2 goals a week through pure stupidity and I've heard rumours his team mates are getting very sick of him
Jolly - runs around like a 50 year old. cant possibly retain his spot after being outplayed by Zac Dawson

Out: Elliott, Shaw, Clarke, Mooney

Elliott - has done nothing these past few weeks. Needs some time in the VFL to find form.

Shaw - shame. Suspended.

Clarke - he's either injured, or too slow to take on Geelong's small forwards.

Mooney - will be a liability against Geelong. Needs to build some form in the 2s so he can push for selection next week and our run to the bye.

In: Ball, Russell, Williams, Goldsack

Ball - either this week or next week, but he needs to come in.

Russell - has matched up well on SJ in the past, bringing him in mostly for this.

Williams - Assuming Harry and Daisy take the other match ups, no Shaw means that someone has to take the last of the Motlop/Stokes/Christensen trio. I'd put him on Motlop, Harry on Stokes and Daisy on Christensen.

Goldsack - need more targets in the F50 and Goldy's versatility is always a plus.

Out: Kennedy and In: Didak also a possibility.

Lots of heat on Blair, but at least he's kicking goals and getting double digit possessions. Ball comes in, Elliott out and Blair to the forward line in his natural position as defensive forward w/ stints in the middle.

Russell to Steve Johnson, Macaffer to Bartel.

Front and centre crummers, as well as Lynch and Goldsack will be absolutely crucial. Somehow I get the feeling that our smalls (Dwyer/Krakouer/Blair/Kennedy) won't be able to go with theirs (Corey/Enright/Horlin-Smith) in the air or body to body. So smart leading, forward entry and crumming is essential. Need Lynch to play up the field and run/lead all day to make Taylor accountable. Taylor slaughters any errant high balls deep in the forward line. Goldsack needs to kick goals and make himself a target to get pressure off Cloke.

Macaffer on Bartel will also be hugely important. If Caff can kick a goal or two, while keeping Bartel to <20 possessions and restricting his set-up play/interceptions from the back half, it would be a big win.

If things go well and the players put in a four quarter effort, we might just pull off an upset. Since Geelong's been dominant, we've matched up on them better than any other team in the comp. It's not saying much, but if anybody could beat them, it's us. Backs against the wall, rarely lose two in a row.

C'mon Pies!

Stevie J is a full time midfielder who rarely plays forward, don't think we'd bring in Russell for that reason

You had me until you wanted Caff dropped - No way Jose!!!!

Out: Shaw (dumbness)
In: Goldsack

That is all.

I wouldn't mind seeing Witts or Paine as an in.

I'd drop Clarke, Elliott and Blair.

So changes are outs: Shaw, Blair, Clarke and Elliott.

Ins... Witts, Ball, Williams, Didak.

Geelong arn't blessed with the best ruck stocks. They have Blivacs but Witts can do some serious ruck work, with Q-Stick and Jolls doing the bulk of course. Jolly and Witts to play ruck forward but Jolly playing most of the time in the forward line.

Didak the sub.

Swan to play 1/3 forward and 2/3 midfield.

Williams Brown O'Brien

D.Thomas Reid Maxwell

Seedsman Pendles Q-Stick

Sidey Cloke Dwyer

Krak Witts Mooney

Jolly Swan J.Thomas

Ball Macaffer Kennedy (Didak)

A forward line of Cloke, Lynch, Dwyer, Sidebottom, Krakouer is just far too slow...

Mooney is a must whilst Blair and Elliot need to bloody lift their pressure and intent.

Agree we need speed but Mooney has shown next to nothing at AFL level. He was unsighted when subbed on for the first 10 minutes which is when he should be blistering. His disposal is questionable and while he statistically may be fast doesn't seem that quick on the AFL field to me.
Sure he kicks bags in the VFL but the player quality is far worse and speed is likely to be to found out at the high level if that's all he has. I think he has lots of developing to do.

I sort of relate this to NFL, wide receivers always look awesome in college because they are quick in the open field but against quality players in the NFL speed in the open field just isn't enough.

Williams in for Heater and Ball in for Mooney. Daisy into the midfield and Blair into the forward line. I would keep Kennedy in the team. Caff needs to play on Johnno. Whilst their small forwards are a concern we still have the quality mids to win this game, providing they bring the necessary pressure.

Very unfair. Considering he has barely played a full game at AFL level (I think he was either subbed on or off in all his appearances last year) it's hardly surprising it took him a while to get going in a game we were being flogged in.

He finished with 8 touches, a goal and 3 tackles in barely 2 quarters of footy and showed a lot more than Kennedy or Elliott on Saturday night.

I'd keep him in and let him learn how to use his speed at AFL level, if he gets 5 or 6 games straight it'll come. I've seen his pace first hand on a number of occasions, its absolutely incredible. If you have a player with the raw tools he has you need to give him more than a half of footy to pass judgement. Especially considering how many distinctly one-paced players we're fielding at present.

Ins Williams, BALL
Outs Clarke, Shaw

Caff goes to Stevie J, Williams to just rip off the head of any small forward that comes near him. With the way Stokes and Christensen both repeatedly duck their heads for free kicks, I'd say one or both of these numb nuts will be the recipient.

Pretty hard to disagree, maybe I'd had one too many beers on Saturday.

Good post.

I don't really like the idea of dropping someone after they have been the sub, just seems very reactionary to me. Maybe if they didn't have any impact whatsoever but Mooney was pretty good I thought when he came on and when the ball was down our end, and if he is fit then he should come back into the team

My changes would be
In: Ball, Johnson/Marley, Goldsack
Out: Kennedy, Shaw, Elliot

Didak also a chance to come in, but don't think we'll be making more changes then those above. Elliot for me has been particularly disappointing for recent times, can't get a sniff in the air and isn't too quick when the ball hits the deck.
