Brian Lake? From the Dogs I'd have Boyd, Aker, Higgins and Hargrave before Lake. I have Lake just scraping into the top 50. He has been awesome the last two weeks but over the entire season there have been plenty better.

Yes they have all been great maybe Higgens before Lake but thats it i have watched him all season an the way he sets up plays from the backline is quiet unbeliveable an will not be suprised if he takes the best an fairest at the dogs this year.

Decent voting system - makes sense :thumbsu: Just out of curiosity who are Adelaide's top five vote getters?

On the Adelaide board the POTY using a 5,4,3,2,1 voting system following round 15 is as follows:

1st Jason Porplyzia 25.5
2nd Scott Thompson 24
3rd Kurt Tipett 22.5
4th Tyson Edwards 19.5
5th Bernie Vince 18

Using your system I would very surprised if there are any crows over 40 votes with the possibility of several hovering around the 30 vote mark.

This is my top 10 based on this year performances.

1. Gary Ablett
2. Chris Judd
3. Nick Riewoldt
4. Paul Chapman
5. Lenny Hayes
6. Aaron Sandilands
7. Brendon Goddard
8. Leigh Montagna
9. Dane Swan
10. Matthew Boyd

Give or take a few places...

I would have the exact same players, in the same order except I'd have Hayes over Chappy.

Are these lists based on FORM, or just in general?

Form:
1. Swan
2. Brown
3. Didak
4. Selwood
5. Judd
6. Montagna
7. Goodes
8. Dal Santo
9. Pendlebury
10. Reiwoldt

GENRALLY:
1. Judd
2. Ablett
3. Reiwoldt
4. Brown
5. Selwood
6. Hodge
7. Fevola
8. Franklin
9. Goodes
10. Didak

Your stats tell the world what they already knew - that Swann is a sheepdog. That's the role the club gives him, so no shame. Every club gives players the role either permanently or week to week of running around behind the herd flicking the ball from side to side looking for an opening. These players are stat flattered in some or all of total touches, (uncontested) marks and effective disposal.

The other thing these guys have in common is that they are not the true match winners. Never comparable to the guys who spend all day winning ball and/or moving it forward.

Your post tells us exactly what you are- another ignorant carlton supporter who cannot possibly give credit were its due when collingwood is involved.

Please explain to me einstein how one can be a sheepdog and be 4th in contested possies and I believe he may be number 1 in clearances(if not number 1 in the top few) ?????????????? He wins alot more contested footy than murphy and gibbs do.

For the whole season. Put Pavlich and Black in for Hodge and Didak and then I'd agree with that list.

This year
1. Nick Riewoldt

3. Leigh Montagna
4. Dane Swan
5. Lenny Hayes

Possessions mean nothing these days...and swans stats reveal why ..getting cheap possies across haf back with no opponent does not make you a great player ..otherwise Joel Bowden would be a superstar ...Judds possessions are much more damaging than Swans and even Abletts .....must pundits agree.

great top ten. but i woul have B.Lake in there over D.Swan i rate D.Swan but when i see him play he get alot of cheap touches but he is still a good player but i think B.Lake should be there.

Obviously missed it when your mob played us and swan had a massive and almost unheard of 17 contested possessions and 7 clearances. If lake has had a better season than swan then I am a monkeys uncle. Swans weakness is that he is not a good long kick although he is a pretty good kick inside 40 metres. This theory that he is just a sheepdogs he gets cheap kicks could not be further from the truth. Stats dont always tell the true story but if in this case(the amount of contested footy and clearances he wins) they tell the exact story. Anyone who does not have swan in their top 10 players of this years based on form has NFI.

you are seriosuly dumber than the last bloke. HE IS 4TH IN CONTESTED POSSESSIONS CONTESTED CONTESTED CONTESTED. He had 13 against your bunch of pretenders which I am tipping is more than anyone in your side had that night. He has been tagged most game in the last 6 weeks. He breaks is tag byt the 2nd quarter and clubs realise it is a waste of time trying to go with him. shirley(one of the best taggers going around) went with him the whole night on sat and he still got his 30 ps. He is also 4th in effective kicks and I think he might even lead goal assists.

I am not trying to argue against the merrits of ablett and judd being superb players and users of the ball. They are, although I dont think judd is a better user than ablett as you suggest. But the stats are concrete proof that swan wins plenty of his own footy, and that he is very damaging and at the very least has been in the top 10 players this year, of which I am sure MOST EDUCATED PUNDITS AGREE.

I think you'll find Judd is first in clearances (145 - next best Matt Boyd on 111 - that is a staggering difference). Swan is third on 107 (which I must add is not bad for a "sheepdog").
Boyd has more 1st possessions than Judd though (140 to 132 respectively).
I don't think until I saw these stats that I knew how good a year Matthew Boyd is having.
Judd is also ranked 1st in inside 50s and 3rd in scoring assists. Not saying the stats mean anything. Just putting them out there.
Swan leads the scoring assists, but is 48th in total contested disposals (at least according to pro-stats - if you can direct me to where you got your "4th" from I'll be happy to concede the point). He's ranked first in uncontested disposals in the competition and, although I hesitate to bring it up 1st in total skill errors (I suppose when you're getting the most disposals in the game you can butcher it a bit).
Anyway, these stats sort of put a perspective on things, I believe. Have fun.

That's a massive difference. I would have thought Boyd would be nearly 1st in that stat. Maybe I'm underrating Judd this year. Are you sure that's right though? 145 is a lot of clearances.

Boyd and Judd are virtually neck and neck in clearances. Judd's ahead by 5 or something like that.

Mitchell is the clearance king, despite playing a few games off half-back, still 3rd in clearances.

I don't like putting too much of an emphasis on stats when rating players but these are the stats I would rate:

Clearences:

1. Chris Judd - 108
2. Matthew Boyd - 108
3. Sam Mitchell - 101
4. Jude Bolton - 99
5. Brett Kirk - 95
6. Matt Priddis - 95

I50's
1. Chris Judd - 117
2. Jason Gram - 106
3. Danyle Pearce - 97
4. Dane Swan - 97
5. Leigh Montagna - 96
6. Adam Goodes - 95

Contested Possessions:
1. Chris Judd - 209
2. Dane Swan - 200
3. Gary Ablett - 187
4. Joel Selwood - 184
5. Shane Tuck - 178
6. Adam Goodes - 173

Maybe Judd is the best player this year. I didn't think he would be top of all of them.
