Agree Parish is not a ‘bust through the pack’ or even ‘burst away from the pack’ clearance mid. But he is seriously effective at what he does in and around the contest.

The idea that we trade out our best clearance mid who’s smack bang in the perfect age bracket for the team’s development because he’s not a certain type of clearance mid in my view is silly. How about we draft/trade in a bigger body mid that fits that mould AND have Parish?

I get that sometimes you need to give up something good to get something good, but this just doesn’t make sense to me. We all know he’d go to Geelong and win a Brownlow medal while we draft in a skinny 18 year-old flanker or two with the picks we get for him.

Perfectly said.

Parish can only win clearances by having a dominant ruck hit it down to him or if he has players blocking for him.

Also Parish had the most (or very close to) clearances in the league last season, and Essendon neither has a dominant ruck nor players who block in the midfield. Sounds legit.

Parish is the cleanest player when grabbing the ball in dispute on the ground.

His ability to win those balls and get it out to players in close, we probably haven't seen it since a guy called James Hird

Should trade 22 to Richmond to help them pay for hopper and tim.

No ******* way is Davey getting to 22 with gws having 19 and 21, if mccartney has either of those picks live on draft night he'll call Davey. (and it's not just to spite Dodoro who he loathes but they're losing Bobby Hill as well more than likely)

What will they have left we’d be interested in?

That's for your god Dodo to work out.

If not from Richmond involve another team, it's not that hard.

A smart list manger will make it happen meanwhile dumbass Dodo will probably be surprised when McCartney calls out Davey.
Ah, so you want to throw out completely ridiculous aspirations and then blame Dodoro if it doesn’t happen. Then shift the goal posts away from your original preference. With a helping of insulting me along the way.

If you don’t want to have stupid ideas knocked, don’t write them.

The issue is not whether we trade Parish for picks or even developing players.

The real concern is that players of any note are consistently linked to Geelong, Richmond, and Collingwood it seems and we don't even rate a mention.

Well we have no coach. So it's hard to sell to a player what game plan or position one might play without a coach. The guy trying to convince you (Dodo) might not be here in a few week's.

Then no CEO or half the board not been selected is probably not a good look.

We're in a shit spot.

You’re right - but it’s also just a symptom of the problem, not the actual problem.

We’re a rabble and trading in stars won’t fix it (Smith, Saad, Stringer, Shiel). We need to fix the playing culture, coaching and executive leadership.

Of course noone wants to come when you are at rock bottom. Look at Brisbane’s go home 5 from eight years ago. Rats running from the ship. But then they draft well, get stable off field, pick up a few canny discards (Lyons, McCarthy), start to turn things around on field and now Daniher and maybe even Dunkley want to be there.

Buckle in, it’s gonna be a long road with no shortcuts.

Was Neale before they got better on field or after?

The road doesn't have to be that long if we are proactive.

Draper, McGrath, Ridley, Hobbs, Perkins, Cox, Jones, Martin, Reid, D'Ambrossio, Durham, Caldwell is a great young core to build around. If we actually attempt to do a full rebuild and remove a lot of deadwood, open up about 8 senior list spots, I think we could be contending inside 4 years and have a really enjoyable time along the way. We'd be a very attractive destination as soon as next years offseason.

Absolutely. Can turn it around in 12 months with a coach the players listen to and some willingness to think outside the box.

The first thing we need is inside grit. That's ridiculously easy and cheap. We need some hard running, two-way athletes. There are options there as well.

A fleet of hard running small/medium forwards is already on the way.

I think we lack strong contested players and are void of a decent senior group that can teach it, so our younger core group are lifting and showing the way instead, However, just look at this year's finals series, it makes us look like a good VFL side of boys playing in the AFL of men. Now, we had some bad luck. Losing Hurley, Daniher, Tippa, Mosquito, Smith, Saad etc. So the team is back to square one and is a very young side again. As much as i admire Heppell's work rate and running, he's just not poised enough and turns the ball over, as captain, doesn't give us the match winning quarter that we need from time to time.

I think the team needs well balanced players, skilled, and that aren't afraid of the contest, like what we've seen in this year's finals series. You could argue that the Lions vs Demons game features players that we don't really have enough of, although you have to admire Guelfi's tenacity in the contest and way more poised. Hobbs and Martin have been great as well. Merrett has lead us really well. I just think we have too many players that are not contested ball winners and tend to sit on the outside waiting and that won't work well in the AFL these days so much.

Parish has his flaws but he's hands are so clean in congestion and some of his clearances that open up the play are *ing sublime, like top 5 in the competition.

Absolutely, we just don't have the team balance right. Need some more skilled contested players who can win the ball at the contest and can feed it to Parish, Merrett, Shiel etc...

Hobbs and Martin have been great additions. I think the trade period needs to prioritise players who aren't afraid to get involved in the contest and are very well poised, which is what we've seen a lot in this years finals series. We need experienced, physical, senior players whom actually enjoy playing.

You said Parish was a good inside mid.

Ant explain why he's not a good inside mid. He is something else. I say that player is borderline irrelevant.

You said he' s an AA.

No. Ant explained why he isn’t a perfect inside mid.

The kid wins an AA the first year he actually plays full time inside mid and we want to bin him.

Lol I’ll never understand this fan base.

Would you agree that Tom Mitchell is a low impact player?

This year maybe, for obvious reasons. Stringer, Smith, Saad, Shiel, Phillips, Caldwell, Kelly, Hind, Wright and even Dunkley show that in recent years we still attract players.

Tom Mitchell is *in 30

Darcy is like 25

My god
The same age as Mitchell when he won a brownlow. He was a low impact player then, he is a low impact player now. Individual awards don't mean someone is good for building team success.

Hawks gave up pick 16 for him. That was Todd Marshall. Then Jarrod Berry, Sam Powell-Pepper, Tim English, Issac Cumming, Will Hayward, Jordan Ridley.

He hasn’t won a single final for them.

Can turn it around in 12 months to what extent? Are you talking playing quality finals football in 23 or the emergence of green shoots that mean there is hope for 2024 and beyond?

Because that fleet will take a while to take sail I reckon.

I know it can all change quickly but I’d be amazed if we win a final before 2025. We should have that horizon in mind in any list management decisions this year.

No real surprise there. You have to get your shit together before players want to come.
