There are a lot of very fair criticisms of Parish, but the "get rid of him" hand-wringers do a disservice by dismissing his "one good year".

His one-wood might be centre clearances, but he was the best in the league at it in 2021, 8 clear of the 2nd best (Libba). Not a bad weapon to have on our list, even if he has hit his ceiling (and there is nothing to say he can't round out his game from here to get better defensively). Never mind winning premierships, winning games starts getting difficult without someone able to get the pill out of the middle.
So how do you rate his game when sides start to put some physical pressure on him like they did at the end of 2021 and this year ? There where a lot of times when he simply did not have the power to extract the footy.
Winning games for us is players buying into team defense first of all.
It is simple really. He is in the best 3 or 4 players on the list yet he is not in the best 20 midfielders in the comp. He would be the second or third best midfielder at most clubs yet we are happy with him being in our best players.
Sorry to be such a "hand wringer " and actually wanting players who will actually play to a better standard and not just accumulate possessions and play one way.

Parish was given the green light from rutten to do as he pleases.

During his best season it must be remembered that we had plenty of injuries to our midfield and not much depth. So parish was able to play 100+ minutes in the midfield every game, and was our hit player on most stoppages

While parish is elite at cb just like Shiel and stringer he isn’t as effective in ball ups and throw ins unless he’s positioned by himself. Being so small he needs momentum towards the footy to be successful. He has very good timing and touch around the ruckman and reads the ball very well. Unfortunately this is his only trick on those occasions. Parish standing by himself leads to opposition freeing up their best player or throwing out Essendons balance at stoppage. Otherwise they just put a body on him and he becomes ineffective unless the block comes.

Parish is one of the worst tacklers I have seen in Essendons midfield for a long time and usually only runs one way. Which also hurts his value to this side and makes him look selfish.

Rutten has allowed parish to continuously stand by himself at stoppages, and play as hit mid too often. I don’t know how Scott plans on changing the midfield But if it becomes more balanced with more players going in and out of there and roles shared I predict parish’s numbers will drop and he will become just another small average kicking no defensive running poor tackling mid. That is absolutely expendable in this and further trade periods.

One of the things that always confused me in regards to Truck. Wanted the players to play blue collar but let Parish play loose stat padding footy. And Parish was one of his favourite players which made no sense. Every player obviously gets a clean slate with the new coach and at least a year to prove they can follow instructions. Would love to see a lower possession, more defensively minded Parish next year.

The only goal I have for this trade/ free agency period is Jack Bowes.
I am unsure if he will make it as a player but if we take his 1.5 million over 2 years and give up a 2023 2nd as well it is a good result for the club.
‘I gotta think Bowes would have a greater chance of making at essendon rather than geelong

He’d be an upgrade on Hams at the very least

Jack Graham rejected a trade to Port Adelaide

Nail. Head. Hit.

Is anyone else quietly bullish on our chances on Bowes picking us? Probably blind optimism but the news of Scott wasting no time to meet with him has me filled with unwarranted confidence. With the cap the way it is and the best 22 shake up with a new coach and game plan thinking we’re in with a descent shot at least. If it’s the only trade that gets done this off-season I won’t be disappointed

Matty Knights is.

I certainly hope you’re right.

Why? To get who? Can't say there is a real stand out at number 1. Would rather keep 4 and 7
Was just thinking out aloud but,

Cadman/Sheezel. They're both needed.

Example: IF we got Bowes,Graham and Narkle then our midfield has got more quality and depth. Lets say we miss Bedford.
We would still have a massive gap at small forward( we're assuming and hoping a lot with Davey,Tex,Menzies work) if we're happy with smalls we can get Cadman. We only have 2MP, Jones and possibly Stewart who can play AFL standard KPF. Baldwin, I like but needs a big pre-season and more VFL time IMO.

Overall, I would rather keep 4+7 and hope for one of Cadman/Sheetal fall ( don't think they will) because we really need one of them. Then grab Humphreys or Phillipou. Moot point though because I don't think we get Bowes or #7 tbh.

No, bit I am hopeful. Would be just what we need.
Same with Graham.
