No one wants to play here the same as North Melbourne. We are not an appealing club. Almost like Melbourne early to mid 2010s where they had to draft there way out of it with early picks (petracca at 2, Oliver at 4)
We had a few picks in that draft if i recall? How'd that work out for us?

Dk why people rate Draper so highly. Redman a FA so would get value. Hobbs an interesting one. Martin is so overrated it isn’t funny. Good player but not the superstar people make him out to be. You got to give something up to get something. Heppell and Jake Kelly ain’t getting you anything.
Martin is 30 odd games into his career 😂😂😂😂 you have no clue and I’m on board with other that think you’re a troll around here

I’ll put the question out there then. What would you do to fix the list since you all have come up with some great ideas of your own?

Ahhh yes.

The scorched earth rebuild worked so well for Norf, and Carlton....twice
It might work for us, we are in no man's land and we'll probably sign McKay because 'we aren't that far away' only for us to finish mid table again.

Is it the answer? I'm not sure but what we're currently doing doesn't fill me with confidence.

Personally:

Let Parish go. Get value for him.
Don't bring McKay in. Play Baldwin
Aggressively target Dylan Stephens from Sydney to be our kicker off half back
Hit the draft for more mids.

For sure,

Just pointing out that it’s a significant disadvantage to overcome against the top teams.

If on average 14M (the cap) = 12 wins. (50% win rate) then you’d expect 3M to be worth about 2.5 wins if spent on afl average players.

It’s an interesting point I hadn’t of thought about. Guess our players aren’t good enough to warrant more money either

Don’t mind that. Think it needs a lot more than that though. Thought Stephens was one of the safest prospects in that draft.
I still feel contested footy is our biggest issue aswell as forward pressure.

We're year three in a rebuild with a new coach. Play the long game.

I agree we should be but the club doesn’t see it that way. Not playing the kids keeps you mid table and you miss out on improving by picking up good kids with high picks

What is the point in trading Hobbs and Nic Martin? Seriously

On one hand you say no one wants to play here and then say to have everyone on the trade table except 5. 🤔
I made a list of players I deemed untradeable. If you could trade a pick around 10 and Martin to WCE for pick 1 you would do it in a heart beat

What's the basis of this? The club has been preaching the long game all year.

It won't work for us. It doesn't work for anyone.

Any club that has tried it has spent up to a decade in the bottom 6 teams and required AFL handouts via priority picks or concessions to get out of it.
Norf, Carlton twice, Melbourne twice, Gold Coast in 2018-19.

It. Never. Works.

In all seriousness

  • bye to Parish & Heppell
  • hard call on Walla if needed
  • I would take McKay
  • play at least Davey and Tex every week. One forward, one back
  • play Baldwin for Ridley for the rest of the year
  • Heaven and earth for a Key forward and a gun half back end of next year. King, preferably
  • I’m the meantime play Cox as a key forward
  • draft the best small forward we can

It ain’t a hard call on walla.
He’s a 31yo who’s spent most of the year in the vfl. Almost the easiest call of them all.

The best lists will have a bunch of players on team friendly contracts that they will outproduce.

This team will get pretty close to 12 wins with a raw spend that would expect to get 9 wins, so I’d say this team is outperforming expectations from a raw salary perspective.

Which means either the coaches or list managers maybe both are doing a good job. (Or it’s a reflection of the soft draw)

Like it all.

Well if we get 12 wins almost half (5) will be against those 3 horrible teams. Not really impressive tbh

Were one of the most inexperienced sides in the comp this year

Heppell and Phillips are they our only guy at 30+?
