AFL wasting money overseas

I can't see how a sport that isn't succesful in QLD and NSW but can be successful in other nations who already see the sport as a novelty joke. 20000-30000 players seems to me to be abit of inflated figure.

What you are talking about is not reality more of a PipeDream.

Have a look at www.aussierulesinternational.com and tell me that Australian football is not international.

We have the best game in the world and there are many, many people working very hard to show the rest of the world just how good our great game is.

Our aim is to see Australian football become a fully-fledged international sport. It is not going to happen overnight of course but it will happen.

If you disagree that's fine as you are entitled to your opinion. But your opinions would carry more weight if they were based on fact rather than BS.

Even though the Treasurer sounds like a bit of a toss. Your last comment is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. We don't have the best game in the World, no one does, that is a matter of opinion, it's not a fact. There are many people even in Australia that can't stand the sport.

From the feedback I got from my travels I came across many people who knew about the Australian Rules Football, and watched the Grand Final or had a kick around with some other Aussies that had a passing interest, and a few question and I met others who didn't get it at all and thought it was a bit tedious. I never came across anyone who said, "wow, this so much better than Soccer, or anything I've ever seen, where do I sign up?”

The fact is to you it's the greatest game in the World, just like to many New South Welshmen Rugby League is the "greatest game of all"; hell it's even their catchphase. But at the end of the day it's nothing but your opinion, if you are trying to pass it on as a fact, then you are no better than a bible basher.

The odd sensible comment like Philosophunculists are a bit of a downer but most of you have left me in stitches.

Yes, but you may have noticed we are not on the rugby league board.

If you count Northern Territory as a state, there will be a lot of NT people, including our indigenous Australian's pussed off as well by that comment.

AFL is popular in QLD. Even if it may not quite be as popular as other codes, it generates bigger crowds and the Brisbane Lions have a huge membership base. That has happened in the last 150 years.

The only reason people play Aussie rules in the states is that after college unless you turn pro you cna no longer play team organised sport in the states. So a few people play Aussie rules to keep fit that all it is.

Not true. The bible is clearly a work of fiction comprising a series of unlikely stories whereas Australian Rules is clearly superior to RL and that is fact. It isn’t opinion any more than the FACT that God is a Collingwood supporter testing the faith of the only ultimate inhabitants to His kingdom. The RL crew get parked between the lepers and Carlton supporters on the floor below the Jews and mime buskers I’m afraid. It's all frightfully vindictive up there but if you are catholic that won't surprise you at all.

I didn’t write that. It must be the computers opinion. You can't trust machines. Believe only what you are told by your children.

Wasting your time Cos789, they are all negative ....un Australian really to bag people having a go or working hard to achieve something that really in the scheme of things will not harm them.

What does Rugby League have to fear from Aussie Rules growing in Denmark or PNG or the States.

the AFL has no chance of devloping the football code overseas and for it to become popular !

why waste millions on promotion over in jamica, trinidad, china, denmark, sweeden, greece, england ect.

the AFL will never break into new south wales, ACT, or queensland and will always remain a distant fourth behind RL, RU and soccer !

so y does the AFL waste so much money overseas on crap ? they might as well give it to charity !

Idiot.

Hmmm, I guess someone forgot to tell all those adult soccer, basketball, softball, and ice hockey (and however many other sports I'm forgetting) leagues about that. Guess they should just close up shop...

About the only sport that you can't really continue to play after college over here is gridiron -- and our league is not made up of ONLY former gridiron players. There ARE some, but nowhere NEAR enough to generalize that that's all that's playing footy over here...

I, and most every other player I know here in the US, play because we discovered the sport and loved it so much that we wanted to play it. Why don't you get a clue next time before you start spouting off about things that you know nothing about???

But I guess that's what message boards are all about...

The ultimate financial benefit of an international presence for Australian Football is in a century where Internet TV and pay for view games is likely to dominate - having just 1% of the world's sports fans aware of and interested in AFL as the premier competition for the code could multiply the income from Australian AFL fans several fold.

It is so shocking to actually get a post of some intelligence on this board that I almost fell off my chair.

You may say it is an "opinion" but when rugby league, union and soccer can offer something one-tenth as spectacular as the high mark i may take it seriously.

soccer is glorified lawn bowls, rugby is endless tackling and yet aust. footy offers the excitement of the highmark.

a few days ago i was flicking through that book on high marks and saw the picture of nikky winmar where he jumped so high that his foot was on a bloke's shoulder.
His foot... not his knee.. his foot.

Add that to Jeza's mark, sos's, buzz's and skinny's mark and you have a game that has no equal anywhere in the world.

Footy is to fast and high Scoring! thats why it won't succeed overseas. you victorians gotta stop living in your World of Footy rules everything.

Stop making comments how soccer is boring! Its played and love by 4 billion people making comments such as that is just stupid.
