So lets get this straight.

You can't see the difference in a situation where a bloke - who won the best and fairest at your club, played in a premiership with your club, contributed to your club as a whole over 6 seasons, whom wanted to live in the same state as his sick father and play footy with his brother.

As opposed to a bloke who's sat the requisite 2 years at a club (in which they invested heavily in him in pick 7), had an impeccable first season, had an average year blighted by injury (he wasn't dropped for the second part of the year, he broke his jaw for the uneducated that seem to be peddling this line), put off contract negotiations consistently, whom has no affiliation to your club/state.

One seemingly earned some right to pick his club of destination due to attachments to said club. The other seems to think that giving the minimal service required, then not only decides to go to pick a state of preference, but a team of preference. What right has a second year player earned in making such a bold move.

This isn't a go at collingwood per se, more a go at the self-entitlement of said pick 7 thinking that he gets a free reign. I think had he as a person said, 'my heart isn't in it up here - I'd like to be traded to (state)' etc, you'd have seen the club as more forthcoming and understanding, as it would give us far more options to be compensated fairly. On the back of 5 first rounders picking and choosing where they wanted to go, a line in the sand had to be drawn somewhere.

As for the trading of other players, it seems as if we'll help Redden get to his club of choice (given that you know, he's also given 6 seasons of service etc). I'd be disappointed in the club if they didn't do this.

As for the message it sends.....it is what it is.
You can't sugar coat this.

Yes Brisbane have lost some quality junior problems. We can go around in circles all day about who is to blame and why this happened but lets just say there are sooooo many reasons that have contributed to this from AFL rules/regulations, Brisbane on and off field management and individual player motivation.

My problem is that whilst Brisbane seem to be in this rut, they appear to be making little effort to move forward and improve their position for any possible future opportunities that may present. How could you keep a straight face next year and as for another priority pick in the draft if this year you're not happy to sit at the trade table and nut out a fair and equitable trade?

The club/supporters need to stop crying poor and the poor bugger me attitude and get of their ass and show the AFL and everyone else they are doing everything they can to improve their position.

There was an opportunity last season to trade Aish. You can't tell me that there was no indication from the moment he walked into Brisbane that he would seek a trade back to SA or closer to home but the club was too proud to part with a prized 1st rounder and risk another season and lose him for nothing.

Given he is out of Contract, he has earned the right to nominate a club of preference and hope that a deal can be done in good faith. I'm sure he's not overly proud of leaving Brisbane and for a young guy no doubt this has heavily weighed on his mind, the club are not making it any easier on the kid either.

I feel bad for Brisbane, truly I do. But is this really the right decision. What benefits does this provide for future kids being drafted to Brisbane from interstate. I haven't seen a kid put his head in his hands after hearing his name called at the draft, but Brisbane are certainly doing their best create a perceived environment that will place huge amounts of pressure and guilt on future kids heading North and this may just be the case.

We're clearly not keeping him now....particularly in light of the fact that he only announced his intention 4 days before trade week. If he'd wanted a trade....our seasons been over for 5 weeks, could have let us know his intentions at any time in that period. Why keep us waiting if he didn't want to entertain the option of staying?

Maybe he didn't make his mind up until a few days ago and was seriously considering whether to stay right up until the announcement.

lol Brisbane have become so desperate they are trying to FORCE players to play for their club by threatening them...great culture they have up there.
Cant wait for this trade period.

You won't be saying that by the end of next week and Carlton still haven't traded Bell because Brisbane and their fans on here want him for a packet of chips.

They're already migrating here to discuss Aish and I feel like it's going to get ugly.

First last year with the Beams situation.
Now this year we have Aish.

I have my popcorn ready.

Brisbane - Collingwood could become the biggest rivalry in footy amongst fans simply due to trades.

Yeah true...anything less than a mid 20's pick for Bell ill be filthy.

A rumour is that Brisbane will let Aish walk to the PSD to Carlton and then try to get Ox to go to them through the psd. I can't see the AFL or AFLPA letting that happen though. It basically would be the same outcome for Brisbane as trading Aish for Oxley, whilst deliberately screwing over a player and another club who was prepared to trade in good faith for him.

That'd be like the Veale deal, only twice as perverse.

It would be funny if they don't trade with us for Aish and somehow don't have enough points for Hipwood and we get Aish anyway
This is what I don't understand.

you would hope that the club is more professional behind closed doors and the right decision is made come next week. Surely the club carries out simple risk management scenarios over trade week to really see how mach damage playing the stubborn ball can cause.

You hope Common Sense happens at the Lions over this

I find Brisbane very amusing. They have this burning hatred for us as a club and I don't really know why. They hate us more than your standard Carlton/Essendon/Richmond/whatever supporter. Whereas your average Collingwood supporter couldn't give a stuff about Brisbane :S

Nah. They are irrelevant. Just happens that they are bottomfeeders and get some good picks . Maybe in 2 yrs time we might pick up something but I can't see anything else coming fromor going to that lot that would upset either club.

You should check their board
There's a thread asking if Collingwood - Bears is the biggest rivalry in the modern era

Well it's certainly getting there. You can't deny there were some great contests when both our clubs were at there peak and even now when both are struggling we manage to lock horns over the trade period.

I'm cool with the rivalry. I love thinking about the days when Simon Black, Aker, Lappin, Voss, Power, Brown, Scott brother, Mal Michael and Lynch ran around. They were one of the best teams around 10-15 years ago and we matched it with them for some time.

Mate - Beams was UNDER CONTRACT

Your argument is invalid.
Piss off

Good post, the question has to be asked as to why they drafted Aish in the first place. Sure he's a super talent, but with repeated issues a solid potential 150-200 gamer with less risk might have been the better option.

A bit similar to Melbourne in many ways where they'd go the high risk high reward draftee despite obvious issues with talent development.

No doubt they had a great team and some great contests but you could say the same about us and Geelong recently
Does not mean they are our biggest rivals
I don't think we even consider them or the saints in the top 5 however they would have us as our number 1

That's the beauty of being Collingwood - everyone want's to be your greatest rival. Sure they can fight it out but there's no doubt, without Collingwood there would be a lot of clubs struggling to make money from gate sales.
