It's the principle involved. It seems to be a perpetual circle with our first round draft picks dating back to des headland. Its a line in the sand moment in that showing first round draftees we're not going to be so accomodating to them. Port did it, hasn't seemed to affect them greatly.
OK - so you're happy to a) disadvantage your clubs future progress both on and off field by getting nothing when a reasonable trade is a possibility b) place more pressure on future draft picks to remain at Brisbane by indirectly threatening them with entry into the draft/psd c) ostracise your club further from the AFL by refusing to place the club in a better position after asking for a priority pick and all for the principle of it. yep, great idea that.

I agree there are changes that need to be looked at. But gee, Brisbane and a number of interstate clubs have had plenty of additional funding and support to make it work, and many clubs have.

We'll see what pans out. Sure, Aish goes into the PSD and doesn't get to Collingwood you Lions can all jump for joy and fist pump the air, but every other club will be doing the same watching you further reduce a once powerful club to a had own of it's earlier self.

Sorry to burst your black and white bubble but I would be extremely surprised if Crows don't pick up Aish with pick 14 after the Dangerfield debacle... would be a good PR move to bring home the royalty. Also Blues will definitely take him with their second rounder or pick 1 in PSD if he nominates for that.

Like I said earlier this will be interesting times ahead for Aish and the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood football clubs.
The thing is, you don't know what you're talking about. We've been there and done that with Ball who bombers and Melbourne were both keen on and threatening to take. Niether did and nor will Carlton or Adelaide. No team is stupid enough to use a top pick on a player commited to another team

Interesting times ahead... If your mob want Aish you better pay up a decent price or else he goes to Carlton in PSD or Crows in ND. From Leigh's comments it sounds as though he absolutely hates Pies not sure why though considering he was arguably your best coach the past 20 years.

There is only one loser in this and that is the Lions. If we don't get him we don't lose, we break even because we retain the picks to obtain other talent. Jed Anderson looks like a good option or maybe as mate of Treloars

If Carlton or Adelaide get him they win cause he comes cheap.

The only loser is Brisbane who end up with sweet f**k all except further alienation of a portion of their playing group. Hardly building an environment of trust when you sack an ex captain and show contempt for the wishes of one of your players.

To me this couldn't be sweeter whichever way it plays out.

Oh The Troll is Back

Spot On - The Moron Lions are the only loser out of this

The players don't ASK to go to Brisbane You GOT them there through the draft. You didn't take Wingard coz he told everyone outside SA to f* off. And guess what will happen to Brisbane, every rookie will tell them the same. "You take me, waste your top 10 pick and watch me leave through the PSD or ND". For Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
They will find another club and won't lose much out of that deal, apart from another year at another club they don't like but they still get to play . Your club loses out. Again . And again. Until you draft players that want to stay in Bris and will make your investment worthwhile. Your line in the sand is the line where the players will tell you to GAGF.

not sure how you got that from my post. From comments out of the Lions camp we won't be trading Aish. PSD/ND or he re-signs. LM isn't one to talk BS.
No you're right - pretty sure he said "If it bleeds you can kill it" and you know what, I think he's right because Brisbane has been bleeding for some time.

So what happens if Aish makes it to Collingwood in the draft? Precedent set. Future Lions players, their managers and other clubs will not even bother trying to negotiate with Brisbane. They will just go to the draft reasonably confident they will get the outcome they want. Or if they do negotiate, your hand will be significantly weaker because the draft option is more certain.

You might think things are bad now, they could get worse if Aish walks for nothing to the Pies.

This to happen.
Brisbane trade out 2nd rounders for the 2 Carlton duds.
Keays and Hipwood receive bids around 5.
Brisbane realise they only have enough points for 1.
Ohh the lols.

You mean like what happened when Vossy got sacked......been there done that, got the t-shirt. It isn't the issue

Maybe you just replaced one dud with another?

Love how they bring up Luke Ball.
We gave Saints a number of alternatives and they were too pig-headed. and lost out.
We will do the same here and time will tell

Headland was wearing a Fremantle jumper when your club interviewed him at the time. Biggest flight risk ever yet Brisbane still picked him !

I'm hearing a lot of Brisbane fans say they're happy to take the chance with Aish in the draft to send a message, and they aren't fussed about sacrificing two 2nd rounders potentially from us for him as the draft isn't strong. Thats all well and good, but the way i see it they are sacrificing much more than that. What happens next year when they finish bottom 2 on the ladder again, Aish is at Collingwood, or even Carlton or Adelaide, and they have other youngsters like Mayes (for example) asking out? They are surely going to ask for a priority pick again, this time in a stronger draft. As if the AFL will grant them that after letting a top 10 pick go to the draft for nothing!

So Brisbane, while you may be content missing out on two 2nd rounders this year, are you still content potentially missing out on them plus the chance to gain pick 1 & 2 or even 2 & 3 next year?
