Clarke stopped coaching before I was born, and I'm 50.

But I do know that the club has had an understanding he wouldn't make a decision until the end of the season (or very close to it) for a while.

Agreed. How Dudoros has managed to stay there when all he's done is recruit a bunch of mediocre cult heroes is baffling.

I don't think it is ever as black and white (or red and black in this case) where all the blame falls on one guy. Even for us, Noble wasn't the problem, he was a big factor, but the structure wasn't right. Similar criticism about our recruitment, it hasn't been all bad, we have some amazing talent, we just have recruited too many flankers, too many light bodied players, there is not enough muscle in the middle. As soon as LDU plays well, a lot of our problems diminish but you can't rely too much on one player.

Essendon's best period is when everyone was leaving their club, like they lost Saad, Daniher, Fantasia, they got a look at some new talent and they went okay with an easy draw, their midfield is full of one-way runners though, so they look okay when the game is on their terms, those that deny them then there isn't enough fight there.

I had a discussion on the main board last year where I said their footy last year was similar to Knights footy and I think it is going to end the same way. I mean, I should be bumping that and claiming I am a genius but it was a captain obvious call, one Essendon fans disagreed with.

Changing direction isn't easy. It is like when Noble said we want to play more aggressive... Okay, have you seen our actual list though... these guys have been conditioned to play plodder footy under Scott, you pretty much have to get rid of the entire list to play a radically different way. My main criticism of Noble isn't that he wanted to go from point where we were to where he wanted us to be, it was the fact he had no realistic plan of how to get there.

Clarkson can't come in and tell players like Shiel that he wants him to run hard both ways, it is like Shaw telling Polec he wants him to tag Cripps, how did that end up? I think you can get players to change, but it has to be an evolution of the footy, if you have too many players that don't play the way you want to play you have to get rid of a lot or most of them.

No I’ve NEVER said he’d signed - my info was a verbal yes and then the nitty gritty needed to be worked out.

Well obviously you did say he signed, in your first post when you said you'd heard it from your daughter. Perhaps you were using loose language and only meant agreed, but you can't say you NEVER said it.
It made a difference, that first post told us all it was a done deal, indeed we were just awaiting the announcement before the Sydney game.
