All time greatest/worst trades?

Most neutral Carlton supporters have labelled the McLean trade a balls up & at this point, it has been.

As far as wins go.

Pick 8 (Ben Reid) & Paul Medhurst (AA in 2008) for Chris Tarrant.

James Clement for Pick 8 (Daniel Motlop) ontraded to North & Pick 39 (McPhee)

Yeah, Freo did do pretty well out of this trade, Collingwood wouldn't have been too unhappy, but you can't always win.

When the pies gave up 14 for wood, dont forget who went at 14 that draft. One Jack Grimes.
B Grimes-Presti-Johnson
HB O Brien-Maxwell-Shaw
Looks alright huh? And thats without N.Brown and L.Brown.

No love for B.Reid, I herd the kid goes alright.

On topic I'd say the Prismall for pick 39 (S.Moltop) was in our favour when the trade occured and obviously still is considering Motlop hasn't debuted yet. Will probabily end up being a win win for both clubs.

Also Solomon for two picks in the 40's who we got Houli and Reimers for would have to be a win for us. Although there's talk of Houli leaving (I hope he doesn't leave) both players have shown a fair bit of talent thus far.

We were happy to find Prismall a home and take what we could get. Motlop made his debut this year and did his shoulder. Both clubs benefit on this one.

pies traded pick 37 to WCE for Chad Morrison (went on to only play 21 games). WCE used pick 37 to get Mark LeCras, wouldn't mind him in the black and white

Ah thats right I forgot about that :p

I'm not too sure how Motlop is rated by the Cats but if Prismall could recapture his form of 2009 (which was very good) I think I could comfortable say we'd win the trade. Although if Pris stagnates like he did this year then I wouldn't be too sure about it.

Brad Ottens to Geelong for pick 12 ( Danny Meyer) and pick 16 (Adam Pattison) to Richmond , both have now left the club all Richmond did was lose a good player for nothing

Josh Kennedy and Ben McGlynn for picks 39, 46 and 70.

WIN.

yeah bad trade for us... if u looked at numbers... but not a completely bad one if you look at one Ben Stratton!

I'd say the Hay trade to North was the worst of all time!!!

Hay for pick 6 and 20 sumthing i think

Lewis and Bailey. Bailey may not be much yet but Hay played... 10 games was it? and Lewy is now a premiership player!

Picks 14(Lewis Jetta) and 46(traded with pick 37 for McGlynn and Kennedy) for Darren Jolly was a win/win.

This thread isn't about win/win trades. It's about trying to see which team has the biggest trade penis. :thumbsu:

In fairness Freo traded pick 1 (and 20ish and 36) for Croad and McPharlin. IN hindsight Croad wasn't great at Freo, but that's not a ridiculous amount to pay for two pretty damn good talls.

I dont think people realise that the picks hawks got in that trade landed Hodge and Mitchell. They got pick 1 (hodge) 20 (elstone/useless) and 36 (sam mitchell)

Effectively the trade was Croad and mcpharlin for hodge and mitchell. That is up their with the McLeod for nothing trade.

To be fair the Mark Williams trade was for Willo, pick 24 and 33 for Pick 16. The club in effect gave pick 16 (Jasper Pittard) for Williams, Jake Carlisle and Anthony Long.

The Croad trade is probably the worst (although Croad was looking very promising at that stage but didn't do much at Freo). However, for the effect on a club you can't look any further than the O'Reilly and Fev trades. One set a club back a decade and the other may well do the same.

Wayne Carey to Adelaide who traded Kane Johnson to richmond and richmond traded pick 4 which turned out to be pick 2 (Wells) and also got pick 18 but the roos took a spud with that one!

What made that trade so bad for Freo was that two years later, they traded Croad back to the Hawks (where let's be fair, he was a very good CHB / FB until his foot ended his career) for pick 10, which was Ryley Dunn. So, in effect, we have

Luke McPharlin + Pick 10 (Dunn) for Pick 1 (Hodge), Pick 20 (Daniel Elstone) + Pick 36 (Mitchell)

or, if you prefer

McPharlin + Dunn vs Hodge and Mitchell

and now it's very unbalanced

It wouldn't be in any 'all time greatest' lists, but Jay Schulz for Mitch Farmer was definitely win-win.
This. Always loved how Mitch Farmer went about his business, and Schulz had somewhat of a breakout year.

McLeod/Groom will always be my favourite awful trade.

eh...done to death, we know poor history but we've been pretty good past few years.

By the way. Willing to acknowledge the Hodge pick as it was a strong draft, but who knows...may have been used wrong at freo, not suited the team or may have wanted to leave and we may have been r*ped in a trade like either leaves via PSD or get like an average pick. By the way...I wouldn't include Mitchell, not every pick 36 is a gun like Mitchell, drafts are very hit and miss. Hawks did pick well though, they are both guns, looking back we definitely did lose by McPharlin has been great for us and we may have chosen a dud with that pick anyway.

Lol!

You mean Judd is your great Bambino curse? Sold for a hack midfielder who can't get a game and a forward who gets the yips.

Since Judd left:

2008 - 15th
2009 - 15th
2010 - last

Club in disarray. Crap coach. Players not coming on. This is exactly what happened to the Red Socks.

Ease up there turbo, we finished 11th in 09
