Unsure what we do about 3rd tall defender. Either Gwilt, Pears or Steiny or draft a Brown/Hartley. Maybe Langford potentially 3rd tall defender as an experiment. Francis in his 1st year if we get him.

our forward line is still a big worry for me.
is Hooker a certainty to play defence next year?
i think we look stronger with him there - basically a AA Defensive spine

but it weakens our forward line considerably. i haven't seen McKernan play a good game in the forward line, nor do i think he is capable of being a reliable forward. i like him as a 3rd tall (replacing Ambrose), and rucking 20%. but we don't really have any other tall options, and TBC is not being considered due to his last 2 crap years.

my team is below, providing everyone is fit and at their best. haven't included any draft picks, because

A. nfi who they will be
B. unlikely to be heavily involved unless we have a lot of injuries

B: Baguley Hooker Gwilt
HB: Hibberd Hurley Goddard
C:Stanton Watson Z Merrett
HF: Zaharakis McKernan Colyer
F: Cooney Daniher Laverde
FOLL: Leuenberger Myers Heppell
Bench: Hocking Dempsey Fantasia Bird

Emerg: Langford Gleeson TBC Kommer

the other apparent problem is leg speed. Myers, Watson, Hocking, Heppell, Bird
we really need Merrett, Colyer and Fantasia to have good years
You mean while he was playing with at least one of the following things (as a 110kg ruckman):

1. Stuffed right leg ankle ligiament
2. Broken right leg knee cap
3. Broken right leg navicular

It's as if his right leg was well and truely screwed.

Fundamentally, i'd like the club to back our midfield to stay on top and protect a weakened back line. The team needs to work on the synergy between the midfield and forward line this season. It's been a basket case for too long and needs to be prioritized. We are not looking at challenging this year, so if we lose games as a result of a leaky defense then we suck it up and look at KPD trade options a year from now. Also, for the development of JD, we need to lay down consistent patterns and structures up forward to ensure that he has a solid base to build on.

Baguley - Hurley - Gwilt

Stanton - Pears - Hibberd

Goddard - Watson - Zaharakis

Bird - Hooker - Z.Merrett

Colyer - Daniher - Laverde

Leunberger - Hocking - Heppell

Myers, Gleeson, Fantasia, Mckernan

Against all forms of reason and logic, i'm going with Pears to rediscover how to play CHB. If he could do it well as a 20 year old why the hell not now!?
If we can play Hooker forward without creating mayhem in the back line, then we are once again a realistically good/very good team next year. If we can't then our forward line remains under powered even if Mckernan shows something at CHF. The above forward line has only one weak link which is Laverde, and if he struggles there are plenty of third tall options to step in.

i know he was injured. but he was out there, and played poorly
he was poor last year too. he hasn't played well since 2013 really, like a few of our players
i'm willing to cut him some slack, but not much

Why have you listed Hurley as AA CHF?

typo, CHB obviously.

Everytime I see that word, this is what pops in to my head....

Don't ask me why, it just does alright.

I'm going to start singing it in the office if I'm not careful....

B Baguley – Hurley – Hibberd
HB Fantasia – Hooker – Gleeson
C Zaharakis – Watson - Colyer
HF Edwards – McKernan - Goddard
F Laverde – Daniher – TBC
R Leuenberger – Heppell – Z. Merrett
I Hocking – Stanton – Myers – Pick 4 or 5

Firstly the Bird pickup has to be the steak knives of the Carlisle deal and offers nothing more than some Sydney IP and some high standards at training. Think he'll be playing a lot of VFL ( although I have just read that he was on Wooshas wishlist)

TBC and The Loon to rotate in the ruck with probably a 70 -30 split the Loons way. The way this partnership works is going to be interesting considering 1- the sub vest is no more and 2- Both fit these two are quality ruckmen (The Loon moreso)

Daniher needs to either build up and be a 50m arc power forward or get on his bike and run back into space.

Speed between the arcs with Colyer, Edwards, Fantasia and to a lesser extent Zerrett and Gleeson.

Try get some early games in the 4 and 5 draft pick(I have no idea who they'll be or even could be) and manage them through the season.

Still plenty of deadwood on the list

This would be our top 22 without any draft picks.

B Baguley – Hurley – Hibberd

HB Goddard – Hooker – Gleeson

C Zaharakis – Watson - Colyer

HF Edwards – McKernan - Laverde

F Langford – Daniher – Fantasia

R Leuenberger – Heppell – Z. Merrett

I Hocking – Stanton – Myers – Bird

Can Hibbo play as a 3rd tall defender i reckon hed go great at the eagles being allowed to drift off and back himself in.

Seems to be the way going with a smaller defense those that can play on smalls and talls

I think he could for the most part, difficulty comes with when we play the teams with a tall forward line
Sydney: Tippett, Buddy, Reid
Hawks: Roughhead, Shoenmakers, Gunston
West Coast: Kennedy, Darling, Resting ruck
Adelaide: Jenkins, Walker, Lynch
Richmond: Reiwoldt Vickery, Griffis

Just off the top of my head, I would be very worried about the resting ruck.

Sheppard, Hurn seemed to manage quite well fir the eagles this year. Even on guys like J.Riewoldt, Gunston, Reid ect

Id be confident size wouldnt be the issue in him against Gunston, Darling, Lynch, Reid types.
