You realise discussing potential trades on bigfooty is just that, don't get your knickers in a knot over it....
A trade could be worked out I believe and it will involve Hartung and a suitable pick (maybe another player too), it definitely however wont involve our 2018 1st.

Yes I do realise that, do you realise that stupid trade suggestions will be shot down?

Please come to terms with the fact that you won't be getting Gaff.

Personally I don't want Gaff, merely discussing the potentials of a trade that I read from people on here.
It's not a stupid suggestion, the only reason you see it like that is because you're worried about losing one of your good players, understandable.

If anyone is wondering who'd be dumb enough to take my post in any way other then an absolute pisstake throw away line, here is your proof ^

I know you were taking the piss, settle petal. That's actually how he negotiates though.

I'm not worried at all, I'm comfortable in the fact that he won't be going and if he did we'd be getting a great deal in return.

Let's see if it pans out, if he decides he wants to leave during this trade period could get interesting.

Any proposal for Gaff that involves Hartung as the centre piece is stupid.

Sure it could. But we are under no obligation to trade a contracted player for under his value, it'll be overs.

I agree it seems like a pretty bad starting point for negotiation from West Coast's perspective.

"Here - have this far inferior player for your highly durable and seasoned player".

It would make more sense if Gaff was DESPERATE to get back to Victoria and Hartung equally as desperate to get back to WC, but that's not the case for either of them.

But - crazy things happen in trade time. Crazy things.

No you aren't under any obligation but a player a year out from being a free agent with the very real possibility of him walking for at best an end of 1st round compensation pick is food for thought.

If it doesn't net us a pick after our first we'll just match and force a trade. No biggie.

And then you get stuck with a player who doesn't want to be there or walks out on you to preseason draft.
You can match an offer that doesn't mean he will accept your offer it just stops him going to another club through FA.

Wow what a risk for us.

Probably a good thing that he has made no indication to us that he wants to leave.

At least we can get deals done dodo worst in the league at completing trades
Let's see if he can get Gaff over the line this trade period then. If he can't, we can put this "at least we can get deals done" to bed.

I have to say it has been amusing watching the St Kilda, Norf and Hawthorn fans putting Fyfe, Dusty, Kelly, Whitfield and Rocky in their team's jumpers, only for them to come out empty handed.

Glad you pointed out the durability of Gaff. He plays virtually every game and always backs up. This is despite soreness during the week. Simmo has called him corageous, because he plays every weekend despite looking like he needs to rest for a month on the Monday.

Get him back in the wing delivering dorward of center and he will have another AA year. Our midfield is crap so we haven't been able to use Gaff the way he should be.

Overs, wont happen.
That is slightly unders. I don't rate Hartung that much, funny because I just said above that Hartung and next years 1st round is overs.

I guess in summary Hartung + 20-25 is about right.

Maybe if you assigned a value to both Hartung and pick 25, they'd add up to total something close to Gaff's value. However, despite this being the approach to most trades suggested on BigFooty, you can't add two average commodities and trade it for something good.

Goodness me...Hartung gets savaged by Hawthorn supporters themselves usually and they wouldn't mind getting rid of him at all...yet in this thread he's somehow a valuable trade commodity.

In a straight swap Hartung is only worth about a third rounder.
I doubt he'd return that much.
Probably better value for Hawthorn in keeping him and hoping he improves than what he would return via a trade.
Did finally show some improvement this year.
Lacks composure, panics, decision making poor.
Doesn't exactly scream 'please let us hand over our 25 y/o AA in order for us to secure him'.

The consensus assessment of Hartung on BF seems fairly accurate, unlike the consensus assessment of Hill last year which was far off the mark IMO

He was a 2nd rounder and he's been a complete bust, i'd say 4th at absolute best.

Thanks to the Hawks for choosing him over Zerrett though :)
