Taking a guess, it's no secret that Norths offer is the most financially pleasing.

You reckon it's a done thing mate?

All I know right now is it's a two horse race.

I'm not convinced it's a two horse race just yet but I think the offer from North is probably too good to refuse, and regardless of what others think North are on the way up so they would be a genuine chance at success over the next five years.

Outside of that, I've asked the question to my ITK.

Is there not at least some chance that Gaff himself hasn't decided? So any attempt to report on his decision would be futile. That said, the longer it goes, the more likely an exit.

That's how I see it.

Following on Martin & Kelly last year I would lean towards him making a statement prior to the Eagles finals campaign, so I also agree with your second point. September 7 would be a reasonable deadline.

The circumstances surrounding his ban, dads health and Eagles still being alive are probably going to mean nothing until just after the Eagles campaign ends.

If WC could do it I'd be matching both. Even if the other club does walk away (which is enormously unlikely imo) you can always just trade the bloke next year and get rid of the bloated contract for more than the pick 18/19 you'd get for free-agency compo this year anyway.

Is a first round pick upgrade and maybe another pick or player worth that risk and bother?

Likely end up having to pay some of the bloated contract out as well.

Anything is possible but not likely.

or they are stuck with the contract because nobody wants to takeit of their hands, or they have to settle for a pick worth less than compo, or Gaff has too much power requesting where the trade goes.

Nah hes either at WC for long term or he won't be there next year.

You agree Gaff on the open market would be worth pick 1 right? So which club next year isn't going to be wiling to pay at the very least a late first rounder even if he is on a bloated contract. I mean personally if Freo end up with pick 5 again next year I'd still be willing to part with it for Gaff on any kind of deal.

Where's the risk though? I mean do you really see Gaff going for pick 20+ next year regardless of the contract he's on?

I reckon WC have all the power here considering the compo really isn't all that compelling.

What club is going to part with pick 1 for a 27 year old on a "bloated contract"?

What if he does his knee?

This is Russian roulette list management.

Ok people I have the solution.:D

Eagles let Gaff go to Norths and wish eveyone well.

Norths agree to a pick swaps for points to use on their academy kid.

Norths send picks 11 plus 39ish = 1775 points to the Eagles for picks 19 (Lycett compo)+ 22 (ex GC 2nd)= 1826 points.

Norths use one of those for Polac and the other for their academy kid.

Eagles go to the draft with pick 11(ex North), 21 (Gaff compo), 35 and 39.

Use their 2nd 4th rounder on Cameron

Happy days.

That's a good way to institute an AFL draft tampering investigation.

No it isn't.

Go read some history.

Clubs swap picks for points advantages every year.

Unless the AFL has brought out new rules in the last 12 months its fine.

As long as Norths are better off points wise its fine and in this case they are.

The risk is no one is going to give up picks plus pay a bloated $1.2 million contract for 4-5 years. We would either have to be prepared to pay most of the $ or take a very late pick should a team be willing to pay him that much and i doubt many would. Both of those options are worse than just taking the compo pick now

Okay, I reckon it's pure fantasy then. The pick won't be going to WCE.

There's talk that North are even playing hardball with pick 11 for Polec, and will keep it and risk Thomas being overlooked.

Whatever.

Sounds like they want their cake and eat it too.

Hope the Eagles offer Jed Anderson a good $200k more than Norths just to make them pony up more than they want to.

There are advantages in clubs working together amicably to get win win scenarios.

You sound and act like Dodoro from Essendon. Out to shaft anyone he can.

It would be interesting whether you'd prefer having 10 and 20 or 17, 18 and 20.

where is he going?

I think he stays and signs a 2 year contract. Throw a dart at a dart board if he does decide to make a move.

There wouldn't be a Vic club that wouldn't want his signature. Should be named on the wing in the AA team tomorrow night - jet.

10 17 and 39 versus 17, 18 and 20.

If Norths want one pick to trade for Polac plus a second to pay for their academy pick well they can land those plus Gaff with a pick swap.

Hey the Eagles with like three end of first / early second picks and a later second will be discussing pick swaps with several clubs with early FS or academy pick options.

May not be Norths but I wouldnt be surprised if they swapped two of those to move up the order. Would need to be a mid first as the draft evens out and is deep this year.

I don't think this will end well for North. Polec will end up at Carlton. They'd jump for another senior player at the moment and wouldn't exactly have cap pressure.

It's par for the course under these circumstances.

I don't think we'd accept a 2 year deal, would be minimum of 4.

We've won plenty of finals this century, but only the ultimate counts. Nothing else.

Glad the odd final win excited you though.

No you havent. Ur last final if 06......we at least got to pf in 07 14 15 albeit beaten badly.....

Why wouldnt the Eagles accept two years?

Then trade him next season.

Because we would want him to finish his career with us.
