So apparently the rumour at the AA dinner last night was Gaff a done deal to North. I have no source but heard this on Sen radio.

My phone deleted the "North" part of North Melb.
Sorry North supporters.

I don’t know why Carlton would even want to waste a draft pick and or player for Mitch McGovern when Gaff is essentially a free agent that would only cost the Blues cap space.

Carlton have a ton of cap space available and a player like Gaff should be the Blues number one priority. He’s exactly what they need. Cripps and Gaff would make a great midfield duo.

i totally agree. I can't see him going anywhere else other than North but we should make Gaff our priority. Cripps and Gaff def perfect for each other. Cripps the best inside midfielder and Gaff is a great runner and outside player. Hard to see them not getting along well together. Would love it to happen, but i just don't see it.

Hypothetical for Roos’ fans. Ignore the likelihood...

Eagles match the bid. Gaff rejects it says he is leaving and is set on getting to North.

What do you see north offering?

To be honest, I think West Coast would gauge how set Gaff was to get to North before matching... more to the point, I think they'd want to know if Gaff would stay in Perth if they matched it. If the talk around about Gaff being desperate to get back to Victoria for family reasons is factual then there's too much risk for WC to match as they're paying nearly 8 million dollars for a guy that would rather be on the other side of the country.

Saying that, there's been talk our first rounder is off the table for Polec so push comes to shove we might part with it but we also may walk. What is the value of an five to eight pick upgrade I guess?

Did you watch Carlton this year? Who would want to go there if they had other suitors?

We wouldn't, we would walk away as you'll demand too much.

For pure value sake and considering how long he has left, a high-ish first and a high second would be a good start.

Getting pick 11 instead of potentially pick 21 (assuming we come 2nd and there is Lynch compo and 2 mid first round priority picks) would be massive for us.

On the likelihood thing, if we matched knowing that Gaff was set on leaving, then he would have to reject it if he wanted to pursue a trade. But it's interesting that the policy doesn't state how long he can consider a matched offer for. It says that he can accept it or pursue a trade or go into the draft, but it's not clear if he can try to arrange a trade, while keeping WC's matched offer on the table. It may be that as soon as west coast are aware that he is still trying to leave then we would be able to pull our matched offer. Be interesting to know how it would work, i doubt the afl have even thought about it though.

So you've got a player who is uncontracted and in the standard trade situation. He has requested to come to North, and you would't even bother to offer anything for him? West Coast are one of the more reasonable clubs at the trade table, i doubt we would be pushing for more than fair value.

I'd value him as being worth more than Polec. If by high you mean picks 15ish and pick 35ish, then I suppose that's a reasonable starting point.

i think i prefer this thread to the polec/port one.
decent banter.
port supporters act like they are handling the negotiation.
wc supporters are willing to have a guess at worth and are not personally affronted when some north schmuck (yes we have our own as well) has there guess.
gaff to north. wc get the fa compo
preuss to wc for your 2nd/3rd. (some lower end draft pick imo.)
