Eventually i suppose.....................but we got 3 mil to burn and we only target the top-guns and not the pop-guns. Our strategy is going to be drafting, then pick up the cheap hidden gems, once the cap is at a certain stage where a warchest is built, we go out for A+ players. So for us, we will always be getting a big name every 5 years. The complete bottoming out is no longer feasible, it's calculated regeneration that's going to be a buzzword now.
I can see the Hawks making a big play and paying overs and to be honest if a player has a choice of Hawks or North hawks will win almost every time.

This is quite laughable that gaff to sydney swans. Dude his father is very ill, and shock horror, his father resides in melbourne. Wow weeee. Moving to sydney totally defeats the purpose of being closer to family. Secondly sydney is nose diving down a cliff. Mass exodus is happening, the club is planning to be outside of the 8 for a couple of years to regenerate. Gaff is 27 in 2019, he needs to going to club either nearing success or in the window. We north melbourne is the only club that fits the bill of 1) vic team, 2) entering the upward curve, 3) big massive dollar, 4) small club and 5) strong culture. The small club cannot be underestimated, not everyone wants to be in front of big crowd. Gaff is a reserved fella who does not like the lime light. So all the big name clubs are instantly out. It's quite laughable that this rumor actually came out. It's already killed off, i refer you to ch7 news, SFC already stated the negative.

I don’t think there’s a single footballer in the AFL that would prefer to play in front of a small crowd than a sell out.

I’ve seen clutching at straws before but this, this is incredible.

Anyway, what I came here to say was that Gaff will be featuring on mix94.5 tomorrow morning to talk about his Eagles ‘past, present and future’.

Could just be the standard ‘I’m happy here and myself and the club are working towards a deal’ cliche, but every (admittedly slim) chance he announces his intentions?

that train has run its course, hawthorn need to pay over 1 million, that's never going to happen. Plus gaff is not interested in going to a large club, this is the biggest sticking point. He is a private person, sick father.... add the dots together, he is not going to places thats going to put him in the spotlight on a regular basis. Hawthorn's biggest strength is their weakness in this particular case. In the case of gaff, bigger the club, less chance of getting the player. The big club thing is not going to work this time due to unique circumstance.

Is this one of those things that if you repeat it enough times it comes true?

You haven't seen that many footballer to be honest, clutching at straws is your team hoping he doesn't leave as the indignation and shame of losing a player of gaff's calibre to a smaller team. your team is holding onto every facial expression, glare, movement, look of gaff as some sort of sign. A pat on the gaff's shoulder by simpson is analysed and dissected. dunno about you but that kinda look like you are desperate for some good news of him staying. But guess what, he still has not signed. remember tom scully............

Ask any professional footballer if they’d prefer to play in front of 24,000 or 60,000. I seriously doubt anyone would say the former.

I’m indifferent on Gaff leaving. I’d love him to stay but I’m not putting my house on it.

Players play to win premiership and Hawks have a lot of cap to spend, so we will see how it plays out but my guess is hawks

The sheep are easily swayed by speculation and opinion masquerading as news. This board is a great read. Stays at west coast or comes to North. I call shenanigans on any other scenario. I should take up journalism.

Your guess is as relevant as my pet dog's prediction, no major news agencies this side of the planet has remotely linked Hawthorn's name and gaff's name other than some posts on BF at the start of the year and do you think they will break their salary cap structure for one player? We will bump our offer to 1.3 million, hawthorn will need to do 1.1 to beat us, which at no time in their history has paid, not even for franklin...........

Your first line has no relation to the second. Hawthorn's time as premier is over, another 15 to 20 years til their next one. They have regenerated their list quickly yes, but their regenerated list is no longer a class above other teams like their list of 2007 to 2015. So the success factor is no longer a massive selling point. Hawthorn is as far from a premiership as geelong and sydney.

Come on mate. You're not gonna win anything here. Lord it if you're right, not before.

You might not last the off season if rumours hurt this much

Reads to me like they’re just calling out the Sydney link for the bullshiesen it is. Neil Cordy....pffffft. Read what he said. It’s an opinion piece. More people need to call out the garbage that so called journalists write to justify their existence.

Who cares, most of every afl report is crap

Hawks dont need to match you as they will offer a proven program and a chance at a premiership, if he wants the money he will go to North quite simple really.

you haven't exactly asked that many then.... esp not players who wants to get away from a really bad incident...

of course not, we are 1.3, to be us, you need 1.1 mil. Hawthorn will not and cannot pay this amount, simple. late play or not, hawthorn is going to break salary cap structure for a player? As i have said previously, hawthorn time at flag is over for another 15 years at minimum as that's the natural cycle of things. Flag promise will not work at least not anymore.

You realise hawthorn are still in contention for this years flag?

my school's oval is bigger than the scg. i might ask the same question, what's the point of playing for any of the western australian teams? Judd, Cousin, Lycett and Gaff are all going, surely people should be flocking to it as it's such a great region to live in. Hows the mining by the way, china ain't buying, just saying.

I doubt very much that your school
Oval is bigger nor does your school attract an average of 35,000 people per match. Do they play Test cricket at your school oval? I don’t think so.

Gaff and Lycett are still contracted to West Coast and Cousins was sacked. At least get your facts right.

So you are looking at paying Gaff 1.3mio and Polec 750,000.

Will you be able to field a team next year under the cap?

Fwiw, I think he stays in Perth. No sources or anything but a gut feel.

Starting to think Gaffy is staying

Hmmmm maybe...........lol, no. He hasn't signed by now, not gonna happen. Remember dusty, he announced on the eve of final as a morale booster. Nothing signed by now means maxi Gawn.
